Thanks guys, may well be an opportunist, hope they don't come back! On another topic how's your back crash-test-rider? you able to do any riding at all?

Yep, totally gutting, the idea of her being followed home by someone is not nice, odd thing was that they took hers but left my roadrat which was right next to it, which really makes me think they are a mountain biker, or someone who really knows their gear. Will be distinctly disappointed if it's a mountain biker!

Yeh, was pretty bling, but she rides every day come rain or shine, so wanted her to have something which was nice to ride. Now worried that some scumbag noticed it and followed her home, which is a bit scary for her, not sure how she feels about commuting knowing that that might have happened.

Thanks StuF, will do, hating the feeling of being helpless!

Maxxis ardent are good, fast rolling and plenty grippy, come in big sizes too. I'm running 2.25 on my enduro and they're great, better than the kenda blue groove I replaced by a mile.

epicyclo, what's the espace like as a bike car, thinking of getting one as a cheaper alternative to a van? can you get the bikes in fully built? Sorry for the boring thread hijack! :D

The steel pedal insert are only on the SLX double chainset, not the triple, just in case you hadn't noticed! I didn't when I bought my triple :(

yep, ease of maintenance, I've never had much success with cup and cone.

I bought one of the SS hubs for a build, but plans changed before I could build it up. Manufacturing quality was good though, nice solid feeling ratchet, felt more substantial than an XT hub in my opinion. Having cartridge bearings has got to be an advantage too, though in experience of their BBs I'd open up and regrease the bearings before use.

A mate has bought the wheelset, seeing him this evening so will ask what the set's like.
    Cheers

v10 thanks, but the st4 is a bit out our range and she just doesn't like the wolf ridges, they are a bit of an acquired taste! thanks for looking though, cheers!

    Si we'd be after a small I think, she's 5'5" and currently rides a 16.5" HT frame.

v10, thanks but colour/shape doesn't do it for her, if anything else comes up give me a shout, can stretch the budget if it's a good one.

phew, glad i didn't show the Mrs T then, she would have got all excited at a white frame, and then angry with me for it being the wrong size!

v10, if you do sell your iron horse as a complete bike we'll be after a 16"ish frame too, so would be interested to know if any deals came around, cheers!

edit: and Si, what size is the chumba? cheers

I've got flows and run 2.35s on them and if you're going to run 2.4s I'd say go for the flows. The 355s are pretty tough, but the lady I know who has them and hasn't had any issues is only 7 stone!

My flows however have taken a battering from me at 14stone around Glentress and innerleithen and are still perfectly true.

Running tubeless is easy with the flows, yellow tape, valve adaptor and pump up with some stand fluid if using normal tyres, I use maxxis ardent and nevegal.

Ok, so not cheap, but a bargain for someone maybe?? considered the cost of an XTR crankset these days I thought it was worth a mention!?

Mrs Tiboy has got the same as Mrs PP, new for Xmas and she like it very much, especially the matt finish.

I like the fact that the bearings are easy to replace, not sure about the rest, difficult to tell how much is marketing fluff!

I don't dispute that mister P, however I was giving him options in case he had a +20mm iS lying around, or knew someone who did, or in fact those were XTR calipers, as I can't tell 100% from the picture, in which case he would need a +20mm IS adaptor as XTR brakes are IS mount unlike XT which are PM. Point taken though, neatest and best solution is a 180mm PM to IS adaptor if the brakes are XT.

well he could use a +20mm IS to IS, wouldn't be neat though, but would do the job if it was cheap.

most likely you have two options, eitehr a +20mm IS to IS adaptor, or a replacement 180mm PM to IS adaptor. From memory the reba forks are IS mount and the XT brakes are PM, and come with a 160mm PM to IS adaptor as standard from Merlin.

all travel means the travel's fixed externally, but can be adjusted with internal spacers, easy job, see my last post.

It's really easy to do, you'll need to get hold of some spacers, not sure that the revs come with them, mine did but I asked for them from the shop. The proper way is to totally disassemble the fork, but I never bothered on my reba and revs and it's been fine, and much much quicker.
    Quick and dirty procedure is:
1)remove all air from the fork
2)undo nut on the neg air port, unscrew til nearly off them tap thread into fork with soft mallet, remove nut retaining the crush washer
3)Remove pos air top cap, 22mm socket I think, or large adjsutable works, but be careful not to scratch the crown.
4)Now push the neg air filler up through the leg, it'll come out of the top of the pos air chamber, might be a bit tight at the top.
    5) you now have a stainless steel rod with a disc on the top with an o-ring round the edge, a washer below that and then a rubber bump stop.
6)The spacers go between the top disc and the washer, add as much as you want to reduce the travel by.
7)reassemble, but make sure the o-ring is well lubed before pushing down into the leg, I'd also recommend putting a bit of suspension fluid into the leg before inserting the rod.
    8) Before pushing the rod through the bottom of the leg put 5ml of fluid into the bottom of the fork leg, then push rod through, and screw on nut.
9)5ml of fluid again into the top before putting the top cap back in.
    10) Pressurise fork and go ride!

Fluid levels might be a bit different, see you manual, but this is what I use. If you're bristol based and need some fluid drop me an email.
Hope this helps and isn't too confusing!

fingers, if you want to do a swap I've got a motion control oplock cartridge which I don't use, and would rather have the fork top lock-out. it's a simple job to remove the cartridge and swap. I don't have the remote though. drop me an email if you're interested.

Yep, really felt the difference, much stiffer rear end, felt less flexy in carved corners if that makes sense?!

at risk of being shunned, superstar do one. I've got the 10mm rear one and it's excellent for the money. and a lot sturdier than the DT ones.
