that website is admissible in US court for patent disputes, so you should be ok to just print it out, won’t be going anywhere..

Love the fact that the negative comments are exclusively from people who dont own one, and never have!

We have a gas Aga, intentionally fitted by ourselves, and it saved us 10% on our energy bill over the year, and we were warmer in the winter. the advantage is that the kitchen is always warm, and you always have a hot oven, and as mentioend above if you are careful to leave doors open internally it can keep the whole house warm.

Negatives are that you do tend to only live in the kitchen! :D And you’ll burn everything you make for the first couple of weeks! Strongly recommend buying the aga cookbook to teach you how to get the best out of it, it’s not just a double over :)

When I went for my last role in a similar situation I asked what support would be in place to help me develop in the areas I had idetified during my interview, don’t forget it’s as much about you interviewing them.

Did you just put your number on the board? And did anyone use an online service to get it on rightmove?

Aren’t there some studies suggesting this stuff is pretty bad for you if used regularly? If they were true I wouldn’t want to cover myself in it…

Haha, what is it about agents driving minis, seriously!

How hard was the process? EAs seem to imply they have a very important role to play in going from offer to complete, but how true is that? As far as I can tell it’s mainly the solicitors who do the work?

5% fee, so reasonably hefty, works out a bit over 7k :(

interesting info agent007, can you point me towards anything to read on the subject?

We doubt we would ever want to move back into it, but thought it might be a good option to get through to end of fixed term.

Thanks for the thoughts all, to answer the questions:

we would be looking to move around 2 miles away, so could manage looking after the house when rented out rather than using and agent.

We are with the post office (Bank of ireland) and their terms indicate we could get consent to let, at a fee, no mention of needing to achieve a certain percentage of the mortage in rental, really need to phone them to ask though.

No idea on values going up/down, who knows really, which is why it doesn’t seem a good idea to sell then rent…

Biggest issue is finding something in the location we want to move to…

Worth doing some research so you are going in with your eyes open there is a seal as WCA says, known as the RMS, this is typical to weep, but unusual to require changing other than at clutch change.
The nasty one is the IMS bearing, this is on the balancer shaft and if it goes it trashes the engine, but is actually pretty rare, but a lot of internet scaremongering, but not everyone is OTT about it

When we bought ours this is the buyers guide we used:
    buyers guide at hartech

FYI, Hartech is THE authority on these newer watercooled engines.

on a positive note, we have had 3, all S’s and all manual, and having driven a 2.5 I wouldn’t bother, but then I love the low down torque of the S. buy on condition not miles, and as WCA says on how much maintenance has been done, look here for a good DIY guides:

and this is the forum I joined, there is a good boxster on there for sale now…

Indeed! The battery will be under warranty, so back to the dealer it is. Worth getting them to redo the test with the car locked/unlocked, radio on/off before turing off ignition, etc, as many scenarios as possible.

One thing that happened to my saab was the alarm siren failed, so when it went off you didn’t hear it, and it drained the battery :(

    Tiboy

Did the dealer diagnose any cause of the battery failure? i.e. something staying on causing drain? car batteries don’t cope with ongoing drain, unlike leisure batteries.

yep, agree with the above, just got two pairs from them, quicker than expected and good quality for the price (I bought cheapo ones as my 3yo sits on them regularly…)

Had 2001 model, very nice motorway cruiser, averaged 32mpg over a couple of years, way way nicer to drive than the T5 volvo v70 we now have. One of only a couple of cars out of the 17 or so we have had that I would have again, speaks a serial car changer… :D

rear rose joints can need doing which causes tyre wear at the rear, easy job as they are the same as a vectra, and the PCV needs updating the the latest design to prevent blockage and turbo failure. I think 2003 should be ok from a sump drop point of view, early ones needed regular fully synth oil changes to prevent sludge build up. Saabforum is a great palce to find out the pitfalls :)

We’ve got a 330i e46 touring and a v70 t5 and they are totally different animals! 330i is a drivers can and now I’ve replaced the suspension bushes absolutely spot on, but the volvo is like driving a barge, albeit a very quick barge with hilarious turbo lag!

YGH, completely agree with you on the handling, it ain’t no sports car, even with 250BHP T5. I used to think getting out of my 3 series into a boxster made the 3 series seem barge like, but getting into the volvo does require a serious change of expectations! I think my old navara handled better!

Fuel consumption is pretty terrible, same-ish BHP as the 3 series but 6mpg less! which is about 17%!

They are cavernous, but we are considering changing back to a navara considering the state of roads around us… V70s don’t seems to like potholes!

YGH, just to be clear, you are saying to avoid a car based on your experience of messing with a safety system and it resulting in requiring dealer intervention? Failing to see why that is a problem?

These cars do have well known issue with front suspension wishbones, but ehy can be easily upgraded to powerflex items for little cost. And it’s not as if tehya re the only car with this fault, the BMW E46 had a very similar issue. If you cannot wield a spanner then avoid any older car which will require maintenance, as labour rate will make most repairs uneconomical pretty quickly, irrespective of the make.

We just bought a 2001 T5 manual, and so far it’s fantastic VFM, not efficient but we could cope with that already having run a 9-5 aero and 330i bmw in the past.

As people have already said, very spacious, and comfy, corners like a sofa but will press on if required, and massively quick in a straight line.

Other thing to mention is the forum support online is great, and has loads of helpful members.

If you’re anywhere near malvern and want to come take it for a drive you’re more than welcome, drop me an email

110k E46 330i touring here, cost £1600 to buy and has needed the odd maintenance bit, wishbones were well worth doing along with Rear trailing arm bushes (RTAB), cooling system probably needs doing according to interweb wisdom, but no rush.

Has been great value for money, returning 33MPG on average over 15k miles, though it will get into low teens if you have fun! :)

highly recommend for the age of car, it is really easy to work on, haynes available and realoem website allows you to find exactly what parts we fitted to your car based on VIN, see here:

Stayed in the Abba hotel on Queens gate a few weeks back, pretty reasonable for such a central location and nice clean modern rooms. is the other side of hyde park though so maybe not ideal location wise.

Had one a couple of years back in the 1.9 jtd flavour, great engine, and would have another. as you say timing belts and water pumps need regular maintenance, and ours had a slight leak from the aircon drain, but nothing major. As far a I can see they’re a lot of car for the money nowadays…

If it helps we used to get two bikes in the back in soft bags easily, even did a week in scotland for the two of us with it, worked a treat, and a comfy palce to be :)

We’re in the process of similar, so far done the drain and fill with hardcore part, and the world’s not stopped turning yet… we did pump out though rather than let it soak away, though ours was about 7000 litres :?

{declares self interest} My nissan almera could fit the bill for you, though as everyone ahs said, check insurance as it’s not clear cut, groups are only the start of it.
If it helps I’d even stick a fresh 12months MOT on for a fellow STW’r, it flew through in Nov so I’ve no concerns. She’s nothing tasty, but very reliable and efficient! and roomier than a golf! :D
