I agree it’d be better on a weekend, I choose mens only tickets as I couldn’t take time off work midweek :(

What an event! We’re spoilt to live in Utah and grabbed tickets this year, and it’s soooo much bigger in real life! And it won’t just be the course from this year that future hopefuls will be riding in the coming weeks, the hills around Virgin are full of crazy lines to try! it’s just terrifying watching your own kids ride them!

Living in Utah, and coaching my eldest’s middle school team I can attest to NICA being fantastic! we have 120 kids from 3 year groups in just our team, and are always over subscribed. Our high school team is regularly the largest team in USA (Corner Canyon High). The school biking teams in one of the reasons we moved here!

I had mine pulled, despite living in the US and being very fortunate to have great company medical/dental cover. my reason was that my dentist advised that after root canal the tooth is dead and it’s a matter of time until it needs pulling anyway. as I’m 39 I decided to get it done now and consider implant in future if it bothers me (6 months on and I don’t notice (back lower right molar). So it might depend on your age as to whether root canal is permanent fix.

ps, I got dry socket, seriously flipping awful, but filling the hole with ulcer painkiller gel got me through it!

Early rider! the 24 is a light bike, well equipped and comes with decent pedals and fantastic customer support, cannot praise them highly enough. We have 2 boys that ride every day and the bike has been very well used and they have supported with finding replacement components and even helping with replacement frame when my 8yo snapped the top tube!

We have the seeker with air fork but they have changed the lineup recently to add a hardtail option with the hellion. they sometimes have outlet bikes too which is great.

whichever way you go it’s worth the investment, my boy’s friends struggle so much with their Walmart (or insert other BSO here) bikes (we live in the US now), but doesn’t sound like I need to persuade you of that :)

Loving the ideas and feedback, keeping a list of the suggestions! Houses seem even bigger on average than Massachusetts so if anyone ever wants to visit just drop a message, seems for a family of 4 4-5bedrooms is normal as well as a converted basement, will have plenty of room for guests! when we get settled it would be awesome to show some people around, and new work has levo’s on site for employee use ;-)

@10 that would be awesome, we are looking to drive across country so will look into passing by Breck, we did a trip to Bueno Vista a couple of years back and have planned to return!

Totally understand the varied opinions on living in US, there are plenty of downsides, but after coming back to UK for a couple of years we decided US was home for us, warts and all. it’s a complex place, better compared to europe and a single country in our opinion, as it’s so varied.

I have same situation, irritating but not end of the world to use laptop keyboard to enter bitlocker key on reboot. though am rebooting more often these days to keep up with security updates… hopefully no need to tell this crowd of the importance in current climate to keep up with updates!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and things to consider. After a bit of backward and forward on the offer we’ll be making the move and heading to live in SLC later this year! Also planning to take a few weeks off in between and drive our sprinter van from MA to UT!

Now though the real fun begins as the housing market there is totally bonkers! @stwhannah if you or other half know anyone looking to sell in Draper let me know!

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. I should have given some more background but wanted to avoid biasing from the start. We are both brits, and our boys were both born in UK, but we moved to US nearly 7 years ago, to western massachusetts. Boys are now 7 and 10, and both bike and ski.

The school situation is an interesting aspect, it did worry us making the move originally but reality for us has been that it’s different to UK approach but not worse. Like many things it was unfamiliar so took some adjustment. Anyone have knowledge of whether church membership affects ability to get into the schools? am investigating ourselves too but personal experience always valuable!

Healthcare really depends too, so many providers and schemes, was really lucky that we moved here with my company from Uk so had confidence it was a decent company. Molgrips you are absolutely right that you have to be prepared to catch a big bill even with full coverage, the deductible (excess) on our policy is $12k a year, so we have to budget to spend that in a bad year.

The role is in the south of the city, and we’d love to be out of the city a bit but as you note Hannah it’s a booming market and very little option other than suburbia, which isn’t our ideal honestly. prices quite a bit higher than Western mass but just about affordable we think.

    Thanks again!

Hi, can’t offer any advice as havent been through anything similar or been close to anyone who has, but the idea riding is horrid, so totally get why this has been incredibly hard for you.

Whatever the reasons, what you have now are choices about what to do next. get all the advice you can, but dont trust us lot on a web forum for medical advice ;-)

Do lean on the forum for support and encouragement, and dont feel bad if you just need to share your pain and frustration, better out than in as they say!

Awesome picture! not quite so scenic here in herefordshire, so no pictures , but went for a nice 3 hour adventure with wife and boys on the bikes to find a pond we’d not visited before. Nothing exciting but felt good to get out after a looooong week on Teams!

When we bought ours around start of lockdown we got a voucher for credit which we could put towards whichever plan we choose but would have covered 2 years on the 3.49 plan, currently on 50page plan as kids back at school so might end up with more than 2 years worth. considering the printer was 130 with 50 cash back and 2 year warranty I was pretty happy with 40/yr for free printing no hassle

Just got a crack in the seat stay of my Genesis Latitude Ti repaired by Pat at Limited Fabrications

    Linky

He was super helpful, quick turn around and I thought very reasonable, he was happy to repair when others wanted to replace the whole stay for 4 times the price! Wholly recommend him

Plenty of reasons to be cynical, and likely rightly in the click obessed world we live in, but even if a tiny chance of being genuine I think it’s awesome :)

Ah ok, I assumed they hadn’t serviced at all due to the wear.

Somewhat surprised that the inside of the stagnation is worn, but if they are following a full service I can’t disagree.

I have to agree with above posters, hubs are easy to convert, would be worth investing in a new fork if you like the bike

I serviced my wife’s 2011 side just last night, 37quid for a seal and oil kit from a bloke on eBay, every origin you need and right weight oils, etc.

There is no way a worn outer stantion can cause an air leak, the air chambers are inside the left leg, the bushings could have some play but likely not causing you any issues

I’d service them yourself, all you need is circling pliers and extra long 10mm socket for the negative air nut I the hollow lower legs, ping me if you want to borrow mine.

Had this with wife’s cassette, turned out I’d put the cog on back to front by accident, might be worth checking if the one in question is a separate piece

Fair enough anagallis, didn’t fully appreciate that difference. Discussing with a maths teacher I’m not sure that there is so much difference, but I think this just shows the different approaches taken by schools and even departments. Overall very tough to do anything other than moderate as a distribution which will always leave some individuals adversely affected ☹️

For anyone vaguely interested in data behind some of this, attached paper makes interesting reading

    https://www.ucu.org.uk/media/8409/Predicted-grades-accuracy-and-impact-Dec-16/pdf/Predicted_grades_report_Dec2016.pdf

Major study using UCAS data showed for 2013-15 grades were over predicted in 75% of cases!

Huge sympathy for anyone missing out on grades for preferred uni course though, must be horrid situation to be in. Made perhaps worse by having someone other than themselves to blame and feeling powerless to affect it.

We grew up in Hereford, just west of Malvern. Agree with everything Malvern rider Though would add that it’s often very busy at weekends on the hills, so can be frustrating to bike in my experience.

Close to Forest of Dean is a near drive, as is South Wales. It’s not a particularly cheap area though, we spent 4 years in Massachusetts before moving back last year, and prices are high in our opinion.

As MR says there is lots of development going on but this is creating heavily densely populated pockets on outskirts of small towns and villages which don’t appeal much to us. But does mean plenty of new housing stock
