also I haven’t actually warrantied mine, mines is 9 months old but only started doing it a month or so ago, ive replaced the jockeys, which touch wood so far has cured it for me, but obviously if your mech is 4 weeks old then it kinda blows the new jockey wheel theory outta the window…

I got spanked £50 for a set of sram jockey wheels on my xo1 11 speed mech, god knows what they charge for the 12 speed ones, especially as it says ‘eagle’ on it!!

My lbs has spoken to sram tech and basically they didn’t seem interested, but due to its age, to send it to them to inspect.
I personally want a new mech out of them, but how long does a sram warranty claim take??
Did you deal with them direct?

Same happened to me on Sunday. 4 week old gx eagle mech. Low down the block pedalling hard and boom. Dead mech and sore plums!
Hoping sram can sell me top jockey and new back plate.as it’s ripped the thread clean out the back of the cage.

I’m having awful problems with both my m8000 and m9020 trail brakes. Both have very inconsistent bite points and no matter how many times I bleed them, in all the different ways the Internet suggests, and after loosing both front and rear brakes at the Afan enduro last weekend, I’ve given up and got some SRAM guides cheap just to see how it feels to have reliable brakes.
Such a shame as my old xtr m985 trail brakes were brilliant for years until I killed a lever at BPW.

I’ve got one! Thanks windwave and Dartmoor cycles!! 😀
Now the hunt for some wheels begins. Anyone want some 26″ crossmax enduros……

Don’t be fooled, lots of places have them advertised, but when asked they admit they are out of stock.
Tamed Earth was my first call as they are only just up the a3 from me, but they only had a medium. Lummox, how tall are you if you don’t mind me asking? My large carbon covert always felt cramped, but the xl patrol is a lot bigger on paper at least!

I had this with mine from new, found that coating (hope) freehub and mating surfaces of cassette with carbon fibre grip assembly paste and torquing up correctly has cured it.
Hope it does the trick for you too.

Both of my XTR trail levers did this last year. It’s something to do with the nylon piston swelling, no idea why before anyone asks.
I took mine apart and bought a couple of SLX levers from crc cheap and robbed the piston and seals for the XTR’s.
It’s do-able, but I think if I had the XT levers I’d of probably saved myself the hassle and just bought new levers.

I’m not sure if it’s any help or not, but I’ve got a debonair monarch plus on my carbon covert and there is loads of room around the piggyback.
Obviously biggest difference is my shock attaches to the down tube whereas yours will be on the top tube which may interfere with bottle placement.
I can measure mine in the morning if you like??

Sure can. I actually did the exact opposite, and fitted a zee super short cage to an XT mech.
    Straight swap no problem.

BKB aka Barry knows best. A legendary Surrey hills downhill that drops you down into peaslake village.
Quite often seen in the pages of MBR. Nothing too technical, pedally and fast with a lovely set of berms at the finish.
We always finish our rides by giving Barry a good seeing to. 😀

As above, if there is stuff in the recess and the Allen key isn’t fully inserted, you can muller the head of a bolt even with the highest quality Allen keys.

Fairly slim unfortunately. Can’t justify spending £100’s on a helmet that I will hardly use.
I’ve seen 661 comp helmets on crc for under £40 for example.

My mate has just done over a year on an alloy bronson, and just upgraded to the carbon c version at fairly hefty expense, so I guess it’s all good in his eyes.
I’ve ridden it a few times and for flat out sprinting it’s faster and more direct than my carbon transition covert, but on the big gnarly stuff I’d rather have the covert as it feels more planted.

I have just bought the rad-r cage as an upgrade for my original rad cage.
I was really suffering with dodgy shifting before the rad cages came along.
Worth every penny I reckon. 🙂

Oh trust me my covert sees more than its fair share of mud. The carbon one is on its second winter, and the aluminium one I had before had 3 hard winters before it retired. I don’t mind it getting dirty and I love riding it, just wanted a bit of winter fun to hone the skills before next years attack on enduro-land 🙂

All great suggestions. Ideally I want a complete bike so I leave my carbon covert complete for using when I like. Don’t mind swapping wheels but anything more just becomes a headache.
The bfe would be top of my list, but i was looking at the nukeproof or bird, both well over 4 figures tho. Not sure how the misses would swallow that this close to Xmas. The £500 fun bike seems rather unlikely it seems….

I spent all of last winter with my trusty powa dfender. As a contact lens wearer I can’t get away without it as I can’t wear riding glasses.
Sold my 36’s and can’t make it fit my new pikes though!! One wet ride on Sunday and face full of crap despite a mucky nutz fender bender.
    Waaaaaaaaa 😥

I used a zee fr mech, 11-36 cassette fitted with 40t-Rex and 34t hope retainer ring on my covert. Worked fine, no issues other than shifting got vague as the chain got more worn, but that was mainly down to the b-tension screw being wound in so far for the t-Rex.
I’ve got a rad cage on an XT mech now, but only cos I wanted to sharpen up the shifting, and I like the green anodising 8)

Awesome day, gutted not to be racing after an injury (ironically gained in stamner) but my mate got 20th in male solo on a Santa Cruz Bronson with 1×10 and 160mm pikes!
Cracking atmosphere, great course and can’t wait for next year! 😀

My old covert did this, it’s not really an issue as the frames are massively overbuilt.
Thankfully my carbon covert has slightly different routing or it would be a different matter altogether! 😯

Soon as I took my Powa dFender off a few weeks back, it pee’d down for days……back on it went and I don’t intend to risk taking it off again! 🙄

Shimano rs31’s here. £130 from Planet X. Not massively light, but damn stiff and look amazing with usual shimano quality.

The longer stroke shocks on the v3 models are far easier to tune than the old short stroke fitted to the v2 frames. I had spacers and all sorts of tuning going on in my old v2’s shock. It was like they were only really ever meant to work with a coil shock. 🙁

I actually got grief for buying my new covert frame in 26″ flavour. I have no beef with 29ers, or 650b (a few of the guys in my Sunday ride group have them) but It’s my bike, and I’ll ride what I want thanks very much. 8)

I’ve not done MM before but a group of us are doing it this year instead of our usual pilgrimage to the bonty twentyfour12. As you mentioned about your experiences with last years mayhem, we thought the atmosphere at the bonty last year was non existent. Shame really as we’ve done every year since they moved to newnham park and it’s got progressively more dull.
Hopefully it’s not the way the 24hr events are going. 🙁

Nice one mister p, where can one use the part numbers to gain short cage awesomeness? At that price I may put the zee one to the test to see if my theory works first. A zee/xtr hybrid! Like a supermodel in some scruffy rigger boots! Haha!

I don’t think my covert has the chain growth of your bike NW, but worth keeping an eye on it when
I change over especially as I’m running 11-36 cassette!
I don’t suppose that X-King ever turned up did it??

I’ve been a lifelong hope fan, mono 6ti’s, m4’s, mini’s, and tech x2’s. I recently bought xtr trail brakes on a whim and its opened my eyes to how singleminded I’ve been. Sure I miss the ‘made in the uk by a fella called dave with a boobie calendar on the wall behind his toolbox’ look and feel about the hopes, but the xtr’s are phenomenal, I’ve even downsized the rotors on my covert due to the power available.

I’ve only read your first post, and can only repeat what so many others have already said. Your son may have left you, but he will never be forgotten, and his taking this early in his life has touched many of us who don’t even know you or your family.
Both my little ones were very premature, and we spent 3 months in hospital wondering if that day will be the last, to loose one after tucking them into bed would be even harder to comprehend.
As a reader, it’s touching to see the amount of support from STW members from around the country.

I ordered one few weeks back when I thought I was getting a bargain at £228, but was a bit green when I saw what prices they banging them out for now!

No issues with mine, arrived with 22mm top hats and in full kashima splendidness! 8)

It’s hard to get a good price when selling a complete bike as it is, this sounds even worse. Even if it isn’t a scam, the money you’d actually get from these jokers will be less than if you put it on eBay with 99p start!! :-/

Just tried the screwdriver advice and one spring on the LH pedal is definately weaker. Glad in a way as it means it’s not my dodgy riding, ahem, skills.
Not pulling out of the pedal, just getting accidental release when shifting around on the bike in all the fun bits!
Trail pedals it is then. If anyone has any spare they want to sell, let me know.
