Would others have ridden with you had you made it known here that you were riding? Or were you looking for a solitary ride?

Apologies for mixing you up with the other Rob! Is yours the General Lee?

The buy-out would be huge and no one would want the job.

The Premiership is too long, too many matches, the players are too tired, the National side runs a very 2nd to the domestic season in both training and availability of players for England duties, which is not a priority as managers view it.

    Better the Devil you know…

There's another topic, very similar to this, which is also live on the first page – might be woth a look.

How are the legs and back?

Where's the write-up, I very much enjoyed the West Highland Way ride blog (we chatted briefly at Clic24 after your pal had set off at midnight).

    Well done!

Depending on funds, you could (for example) have a Latino dancer and her partner show the guests how to dance.

They stay for about 30 minutes-ish and much like at a Scottish dance, they take you through the moves, then couples perform as best they can. At the end they again have demo of another dance routine and how it's reaaly done. Guests love this and I've seen it quite a few times on my travels.

The mech' team at the 24hr solo champs thought it was a spacer issue too. As soon as I talked to a Mavic dealer they knew better and Lo, a new freeride hub was indeed required.

100% or your money back!

    Indian over Chinese. Everytime.
Indian food is as good veggi as it is with meat. Quite a trick to pull off.

Back in the late 1980's I travelled through China; the worst food I've ever seen and eaten; so little variety too. One meal turned out to be deep fried fat.
I'm sure it's different today, but regardless, Indian wins out every time.

+1 for Parcel Force and they'll collect from your door. My last bike was about £11 to send.

+1 Interparcel for everything else just about.

If it's a Mavic, you have the spacer(s), then 100% it's your free ride hub that is on the way out.

Collected mine from the LBS 2 weeks ago for the same issue.

I quite like it when things squeek!
Others find it irritating – I find their reactions amuzing though; I can pretty much put up with any background noise though.

To clean the rotors, try kitchen paper (or loo roll!) & lighter fluid (most corner shops sell this alongside the death sticks. I've heard Coke does a good job too.

    Yes, too much to continue.
I've tried it on 3 different bikes and no joy plus it's sore to the touch.
It seems to be the end of the muscle than the join with the tendon IMHO.

I've canned the hip flexor exercise today and will seek another one (I recall on from on line that was effective last time) as it's a lunge-style posture and simply places too much weight onto the affected area; I'm sitting here at work in some discomfort!

The limited (?) range of movement is not due specifically to the injury. I'm naturally like this.

When stretching I can't feel it on the effected area, it's felt in the top-middle front area of the quads.

I wonder if the physio feels that by getting a better range of stretch it might prevent it occurring again?

I'm there again Friday and will ask her as I don't think there's a specific exercise to hit that muscle / tendon interface & region. Maybe she feels that the lack of flexibility has caused this issue in the first place. I think ultrasound helps prevent scar tissue build up only (?).

Lest we forget! You do bang on about it, at least you won't have Dave, Dave & Dave to slow you down (again).
    And you being

    Best of luck though.

The three times I've sat in the back of a Plod car recently-ish, I had ugly unsociable fat blokes to contend with, yet there are some super looking lady police locally.
    3 points later… it's me, isn't it! Darn it.

Of course. The ride is yours should you want it. You'll need a bicycle and & a helmet, but you'll be fine I'm sure.

I thought we cracked the German's Enigma Code.
Maybe he was making a pass at you!

Met no one from school since leaving in 1982.
Friends Re-united was popular one year and so I have a vague idea where everyone ended up, but it seems to have died a death. 1/2 ended up in the Forces or the Police, so we swapped one institution for another!

Saintly: Are you saying you only had one session (?) of massaging the affected area? With only 2 days off? There wasn't much time between the two events was there?

I appreciate it's a different part of the leg and a tendon and not the muscle / tendon junction area, but that sounds like a very short period of being off the bike.

To rub salt in the wound my oppo in the pairs race is hoping BWD will fill in for me! But that's just fanciful

Now there's irony for you (or just plain stupidity) – since I told you I'm off the bike for 2 months in the opening gambit!

I have another pair of Endura gloves with a gel insert and they've lasted 2 years of trail riding thus far with none of the negative comments above. One finger looks to be making an escape for freedom any time soon though (my Spec' gloves did the same with the same finger and that too was after about 2 yrs).

    BDW.
Your maths is extremely poor, or do you only have two fingers (used to stick up at people)?

    BWired.
YOu asked: "Really, I don't think you mentioned it before."

It's ironic that my "back-at-you-in-BWD-style" went completely over your own head.
    N'er mind, eh?

Thanks to those who read the question and chose to answer with information.

    What happened?
Under warranty? How long is the warranty? Is it one of the 2nd batch (?) re-designed with a brace?

But the info from others does rather point to the whole stretching when cold being something of a mistake. This fits with last year's experiences. Warm the muscles and then perform the stretches seems to be one logical conclusion thus far, somewhat awkward when you're off the bike! Anecdotal evidence seems to point to injuries improving over time with a regime of stretching though.

Badly wired: Team Heather Mills 3/4 of the way down the pdf.10th last year and one lap was 5hrs (someone fell asleep at 3am).

So top 5 was on the cards for sure in 2010. 15th in category in the UK 24hr solo champs: so at least I manged one event before it all went south!

I was also put off joining a road riding club as it sounded like if you turn up with a bag under your saddle, kit that is not co-ordinated, wearing mtn bike shoes & a Camelbak no one will ever talk to you.

I got more for my road bike 3 years on than I paid for it – win/win!

I sold my road bike 2 weeks ago as I get just as good a work out on the mountain bike on the roads, without the speed I grant you, with the distinct advantage of being able to take to the XC routes part way 'round a route if I feel like it.

That's very useful as some of the local roads can get heavily congested and being able to simply revert to type and XC is a great tonic, taking me away from the smog and cars.

I find the road riding a tad boring if I'm honest – good for cadence work, but not very interesting!

    Thanks.
Physio's advice differs and had no lasting effect from 2009.

All references are welcomed and I'll do some reading and see what can be done about it.
Utra sound at the physio's might help but I suspect rest will no doubt solve it in the end, but it's a bu££er to have now cancelled all the summer's events (Merida, Bonty 24 pairs (we were gunning for a top 5 place), Montane Kielder etc).

Swimmimg would be a great tonic as I'm climbing the walls here having gone from 12-15hrs training a week to nothing!

Problem is I smashed the insde of my AC joint in a fall (the clavicle should have snapped but it inpacted into the joint instead).

TJ – aren't you rather falling foul of your comments elsewhere on STW about saying one thing and not providing any links / evidence to support your words? I was rather hoping you might have some links to support your comments as I'm keen to learn more.

    Trust me

    Errm. No, not one jot!

The other issue I have with stretching is if you do it before a ride (ie: cold) and not post ride (warmed muscle groups). last year I was left wondering if this makes the biggest difference as I seemed to make little head-way.

Have you any links TJ on your comment that it's "controversial anyway" ?

Can you still buy parts for them?
I have an XTR set up on my Turner, although I prefer the rapid fires on my other bike as I get less delay in shifting and don't get 2 gears for the price of one which I find with the DCL (changed cables several times but maybe that's how it's supposed to be?).

They look better, less cluttered in pictures though!

I've been to the physio (more than one in the business) and had two different opinions.
Last year I stretched for hours each week and in the long run, it seemed to make no difference at all, so I too am in TJ's camp here.

EDIT: Have you ever noticed: DWH has never once started a thread here on this forum? Now that takes some doing & tells us all we really need to know!

I've worn them 3x but prefer my battered old gloves.

Ho much (lbs) are these SS rigid Swifts coming in at?

They seem very popular here, either that or their riders take more pictures of their steeds than the rest of us!

Only by going to a good school did I get my Common Entrance grades else I'd have been on the education slag heap for sure.
Sat back for 2yrs and found I'd slipped almost off the bottom of the class register.
Being a border in N Yorkshire saw me playing and exploring more than working. A levels, in hindsight were not a good idea.

It wasn't until the Army that things really pieced togeather and I found I was rather good at quite a few things especially if I put in 110% effort – that or my other inmates in 1983 at Sandhurst were all rubbish!

My cottage is coming up for a long term rent in 1 month – but it's near to Malton (Hutton Ambo), so would be too far out I suspect?

    If not, email me.
