  • The Bossnut is back! Calibre’s bargain bouncer goes 29
  • As a fellow xxl glove user the biggest I could find was the sensus Meaty paw at 35mm. Loved them but they don’t last long. Unfortunately if you’re looking for bigger than that I have only found the foam type (Wolftooth).

Hello Dave climbs fine. It’ll never climb like an XC bike but for the type of bike it is it’s perfectly ok. You’ve just got to remember it’s a big, slack, long, heavy frame but an absolute riot when pointed downhill. The steep seat tube angle helps with the climbing ability because it puts your weight more central on the bike. For context I love Hardcore hardtails and over the last few years I’ve had 2 Chromag Rootdowns, a Nordest Bardino, A Dartmoor Hornet and my last 26 inch bike was an Evil Soverign. I wouldn’t say my current Helo Dave climbs worse than any of them.

6’1″ on an xl with 35mm stem. Perfect size for me. The bike is an absolute monster on downhills but due to the length and slackness poppy and playful it is not.

Sapim have started doing a couple of extra strong butted spokes that are designed for E bikes. Depending on what hubs you have got there is the Sapim force or the Sapim strong. If I remember correctly the strongs only fit some hubs because they are so thick (Hope and DT I think). The force should fit anything.

I like to think that I faff in a considerate way because if I have something that I know that I’ll have to tinker with before we set off I’ll get there very early so I can be done by the agreed departure time.

I think Special Patrol Group is a stupid name for a hamster.

    Relax… Make stupid noises!

OLD WOMAN: Do you dig graves?
    NEIL: Yeah they’re alright.
OLD WOMAN: I’m so glad. I think they’re wonderful!

Sram clutches have been non adjustable for a few years. There are people who claim that with some creative bodging it can be done.

They are definitely on a par with Stanton or cotic quality wise. I test rode a Stanton when I was looking for a new 29er long travel hardtail last year and thought it was great but that the BB was too low for riding the rocky trails ( it’d be an awesome enduro race HT) that we have in the Peak District. In the end I went for a Chromag Rootdown and haven’t regretted it once!

If you realy want a Discovery than try and find an old 300 series that isn’t rusty. I had one for years and put a hundred and fifteen thousand miles on it.All it ever had done to it other than regular servicing was a replacement pattern parts PAS pump at £60. I sold it about 4 years ago to someone local and still see it on road most days.

    Is the correct answer!

They do look good. It’ll be a bit hard to come in on budget though unless you are using loads of components that you already own.

I totally agree with Pigyn.I have a 2019 Cromag Rootdown and it is awesome! I have also owned a Nordest Bardino which was a great bike that I would totally recommend (the only reason that I replaced mine is that it wasn’t a Chromag!)

Tick Tick is one of Papa Lazarou’s circus Dwarves. The other one that is named is called Pebble.

por15 dries very hard and if used on something that flexes will crack. If you do want to reuse a tin put a double layer of cling film under the lid and it will come off easy next time. trail_rat as a landroverist of MANY years experience the chassis rot from the inside and so no external paint will stop them rotting. That’s why galv is good because it coats the inside too.On one of my series vehicles fitted with galv chassis it is starting to disappear in places on the outside and will need rubbing down and painting but a look at the inside via a bore scope reveals it be in an as new (ish) condition.

sold my Rocketmax frame and built up a Chromag rootdown. Way more fun!!!!!!!!!!

ITI LEGEND Mike Curiak has a long standing dislike of Jay Petervary due to JPs many alleged rule bending/braking instances over several years. If even some of them are true it’s a wonder that Salsa have hung onto him for as long as they have.

    Big-Bud.
Yes we were (not was) seriously considering booking a trip with him and you are correct that we will now not be doing so. Somehow carried out a background check ! Well I looked on his public Facebook page and there is a post dated 21st of February stating that after this year he will no longer be running trips in Scotland. I also rang an acquaintance whom I rarely see but I know goes on a lot of MTB trips all over the world and asked if they had any experience of him.

Some of it may have to do with the fact ( on his Facebook page if anyone wants to check it out) That he probably doesn’t care about how much he annoys people as he is no longer running trips in Scotland and so has had his use and money out it.As for no one who has met him having a bad word to say I have just spoken to someone who HAS been on one of his trips and ” OK in small doses but a bit full of himself” was the nicest thing they could think of!

Not a fan of Ben Jones attitude. He WAS on my short list for next years MTB trip ( to be honest he was at the top) and there would have been 3 of us going so this has cost him at least £4000.Probably go with one of Spanish trips instead.

The EX471 is the one that Aaron Gwin did almost a full run on in Leogang with no tyre! If you want 30mm the EX511 is the same rim just wider.

I have given up on Shimano brakes after going through 3 rears last year.I was tempted by Maguras but got an awesome deal on some Hopes instead. At least if the Hopes start to play up all the parts are available!

They do a lot of agri/plant tyres. The forklift I drive at work has them on. I wonder if they are branching out int MTB tyres?

Dunno really. I might put it on the classifieds if none of my mates want it.

I’m mainly just transferring the stuff off my 29er Nordest Bardino (A great bike by the way.I’ve only got a new frame because I fancy a change!)I may however splash out on some new forks as I feel like trying some of the newish Marzocchis.

No pics unfortunately as i’m a bit crap when it comes to computers and so have no idea how to do it! (This is about my limit computer wise).

I’m sure he’ll just get a job as “project manager” at SICK!.

    You’re good to go!

Plus having that CCJ will make it all but impossible for them to borrow money.

Nellie the elephant by the toy dolls!

I got one of these when my Bell super 2 tried to cook my head last summer! The xl is the same size as the L (58 to 62cm) but in a wider fitting.I am at the other end of the fitting chart at 62cm but there is loads of adjustment. One thing I will warn you of is that the helmet comes to low point in the middle of your forehead and is in your field of vision at all times. To be honest it annoys me for a bit but when the first techcy bit happens and I have to concentrate I no longer notice it.

#3 in xxl please in charcoal.

    I’d have a T shirt too.

    Talk about an anticlimax!

It depends how heavy you are and how aggressive a rider. I live in the peak district and am 100kg ish and I have given up with Maxxis tyres (EXO).They just don’t have a strong enough sidewall, obviously there is the Doubledown casing but I doubt you will find them within your budget.Schwalbe Supergravity or WTB tough are the only ones that I don’t seem to able to kill although this is on a hardtail and not a full suss.

After a day yesterday of chasing my downhill bike riding mates around BPW on a hardtail I thought I deserved a lie in,some sausage rolls and a gallon of assorted IPAs today!

    No pics,sorry.
2009. Evil sovereign. At the time it was awesome! I took it all over the country and rode it loads locally ( peak district ). However I built it back up last year in a fit of nostalgia and it was terrifyingly small and twitchy compared to modern stuff, which leads to…
2019. Nordest Bardino modern geo hardtail. Just better in every way!

As you enter the exam if someone says “good luck” in English be sure to reply in German!

Deore M6000 medium cage rear mech. It’s designed to work with a 42 tooth cassette and so doesn’t need bodging with a goat link ect. It will work with your current shifter and you may even find it in a bundle with the (fairly weighty) 42 tooth Deore cassette for a good price.
