Not convinced about that. DNG is an Adobe proprietary format and while "open" for now, may not be for ever.

The same could be said about any format, but the fact that Adobe is constantly improving their DNG format to be compatible with manufacturer's newest RAW types does appear to suggest that such a move would be unlikely. It would be, from a business point of view, incredibly stupid of them to reduce the usability of the DNG format, in the same way that requiring non-open software to read PDFs would be. Although you clearly are not, I'm confident that DNG will become an open standard in the same way that PDF has.

Why not report it to a relevant local authority and let them ascertain the risk and the action to take? Instead of writing about it on the interwebs, just email the Council's environment services. I honestly don't understand what your dilemma is.

Depends what their stock is like. It took around three months from ordering to receiving to sort my SX Trail's swing arm.

If you are concentrating on taking good pictures and aren't particularly interested in editing then I think that JPEG will meet your needs just fine.

In a few month's time, when he's more comfortable and confident with his technique and gear, he'll almost certainly want to come back to some of the images he's taking at the moment, be it for retouching or cropping to create new images he isn't seeing just now. Better that these images are in RAW format than JPEG, I would say.

..and I believe Rache was a pseudonym that Holmes used but that is about all I know.

The episode was loosely based on A Study In Scarlet, the first Sherlock Holmes novel. In it, the word 'rache' is scrawled in blood on the wall of a room where a body is found. The police believe that the l is missing from the name Rachel, and that the message is a clue. Holmes is not distracted and his judgement vindicated when it traspires that it was a spontaneous blind by the 'killer'.

What computer/OS are you using? As much I agree that it's important to focus on your camera and trying to take a "good" picture, there is a huge amount to be learned about doing so once you start processing. Once you see your pictures displayed full-screen, and have an easy way to make minor colour/contrast adjustments, you'll start to see differently what you see through the viewfinder.

Your camera uses older-format NEFs, so see if you can pick up Adobe's Lightroom 1. It's better for straight photo developing than Photoshop/CS and is very, very simple to follow and use.

Look at the eyes (clearly marked) and tell me that they're thinking lovely thoughts. Oh no, they want to stand on you and that's what they're thinking. "How can we stand on you?", they're thinking.

This is completely unanswerable without knowing why you're washing out. It could be anything from poor suspension settings to inappropriate tyre type/pressure/whatever.

The Charvas around me in Heaton have new bikes every week or so…

Last summer I was offered a Zoo trials bike, worth around £1K, for £80 from those gentlemen.

I'll keep my eyes open for it, but would suggest that you get a couple of shots printed off and drop into the main Newcastle shops and let them know it's been pinched.

The addition of an extra couple of washers/nuts to the headset press, in order to hold one of the press-plates perpendicular to the rod, make it a much, much better tool.

For crown races, I just Dremel a slot in them so the they require very little pressure fit/remove. This obviously only applies to headsets with sealed cartridge bearings.

An adjustable spanner is perfect for trueing discs.

Not a tool as such, but heat-shrink tube instead of crimp-on cable-ends.

I would also recommend WordPress. Hundreds of different templates and can be written what-you-see-is-what-you-get or in HTML (or both!). Much more versatile and easier to manipulate than any other free blog sites, it really is a very simple and clean interface.

Has the steerer been cut? The HD should slide right in without any resistance. The usual problems:not having the HD opened out far enough; no grease on the o-ring; misshaping of the steerer from being cut.

Shimano QR skewers are probably the best available in terms of functionality. An excellent cam hidden away under a little hood keeps operation light. Apart from prettiness/colours, I can't see what more anyone could possible require from a QR skewer.

Some days I am quite positive about the future, and the possibilty of meeting someone new…

For the sake of yourself and whoever you may meet down the road, get over this break-up before you get involved with another person. Make sure that you've learned all you can from what went wrong before you let somebody else fall in love with you. As others have said, staying away from relationships for now will also reduce the chances of getting hooked by a mental.

'Normal' cables could end up wearing through the plastic liner if you have any too-tight curves in the system; although since you can't buy the inners by themselves you really have nothing to lose by seeing how standard ones will interact.

Get some 1mm heat-shrink tubing to finish your cable-end. It's better than a crimp as it won't start the fraying process by crushing the cable, and you can remove/replace as often as you like without the need to trim the cable.

They *may* have either recordings of the telephone conversations or copies of the documents used to renew the contract in 2009. You should be able to use them to prove that it was not you who authorised the renewal. I suspect that if you deny (in writing) authorising it, the burden of proof lies with them.

Here's the Specialized PDF for the '04 Enduro FSR manual. On pages 12 and 13 you will find a schematic for your frame and a list of all all bearings required.

Is it beyond the FC to stick up signs on back of the way-markers saying something along the lines of "One way bike trail, caution advised"?

Why don't you get in touch and ask them?

There are kits on eBay for around £20, so about a tenner cheaper than Specialized. Buying good quality bearings is not cheap. It'll cost you between £6 and £8 per bearing for something like FAG or SKF. You can also get (reportedly) decent Chinese imports for around half that.

I used SKF bearings for the BB and link pivots, then the Chinese ones for the Horst pivots on my '07 SX Trail. The total was somewhere around £70. I switched all but the Horst bearings myself; they were removed with the proper tool by a friend at a shop. Typically, you'll pay £30 for a full replacement.

Check out Force Seven on the Team Valley. If they don't have what you want in stock they'll usually get it by 11am next day. Lovely bunch of people, too.

… and that the float improves performance if the pads or caliper are fractionally offcentre, or if the rotor is slightly warped.

This does not apply to Hope's floating rotors. Stricly speaking, they're just two-piece, not floating, as the braking track is held firmly in position by the rivets. Although there is sometimes a tiny amount of axial play, there is zero lateral movement (which is typical of automotive floating systems).

I have had problems with floating rotors in the past, they just don't seem to have good friction.

The braking track is identical on the floating and fixed rotor. It's probable that there was another issue, perhaps set-up related, which caused your problem.

Disco pads are shyte. All Hope brakes can be used with the correct rotor – either Mini/M4, M6 or V2 – be it floating or fixed.

The bearing kit is definitely the same for the 07 as the 06 130. To quote my email from Specialized my I did my partner's '07 Stumpy:

"The 07 Stumpjumper uses the same kit as the 06 130 so yes it is the correct one."

If in any doubt about your bolt kit, head for the horses mouth and call/email Specialized directly.

Of course bikes are tools. I understand fully that people attempt to anthropomorphise bikes (as many items) because it allows them to experience a whole range of emotions as a result of utilising it, and that they wish somehow to recognise this; but to disregard that how one experiences these emotions is entirely due to one's own perception, and not in any way due to the actions of the tool (which is incapable of such), is not only indicative of displaced responsibility, but also of a retarded ability to apply objectivity.

To ascribe gender to an inanimate object is also an indication of some fairly deep-rooted underdevelopment. Thoroughly ridiculous behaviour which should really make the individual reconsider the nature, meaning and value of all their human relationships.

No, the 9.74 is PM and needs a specific adaptor to fit a specific disc. If the disc is 203mm (not the 200mm I though it was when I thought that the caliper was IS mount) then you need mount adaptor C (check here)

What is the rear caliper and disc?

    Three_Fish
    Free Member

What is the rear caliper set-up? Is that using a 200mm? Hope don't (didn't) do an IS caliper for 200m rear…

    Three_Fish
    Free Member

If the calipers are IS (No 8), then your rotors are 200mm, not 203mm. Without going to 220mm rotors, there's no way you're getting those calipers on that fork.

73x rating means transfer speed of: 73 * 150 KB/s = 10,950 KB/s ~ 11 MB/s, so it might have trouble keeping up with burst firing, but would work fine

Just the answer I was after. Thank you very much.
