He didn’t mention cad, he said sage and general office duties

The point he was making is that, for his stated budget, he could get computers powerful enough to drive CAD programs, not that he should. You’re supposed to be able to infer from it that he can spend much less than 3k to get systems adequate for his more basic needs; or that his budget is in no way a restriction.

The Cobblestone pub on Smithfield is possibly your best bet for trad music performed by real folk players, the Luas stops at the bottom of the plaza, the pub is right up at the top – 5 minutes walk.

Tension as supplied by the derailleur is only to keep the unused portion of the chain from flopping around in high gears. It doen’t have any affect on the portion of chain between the two (front and back) gears, so don’t go spending money on new derailleur just yet and don’t mess with the body screw either.

If you changed the chain and the cassette is not that old – try putting the old chain on and seeing if it skips – then it’s likely that the new chain is skipping off the teeth on the front rings.

Why not cut down some ski poles instead for the cross-members – either in pairs and sandwich the skis/rails in between, or with the board bolted down onto a single pole? That said, if you used poles for the rails and lengths of ski for the cross-members (holes drilled to pass the poles through would look/work well and remove the need for bolt/screws), you’ll probably find you can hang more laundry on it…

I as going to suggest the same as wwaswas, though you might get away without screwing into uprights and just glue then screw your board to the hardboard partition. Could be neater, or just stain/paint/varnish a full plank as suggested and make a feature (hang brushes/dust pans/etc from it.

At least posting vids is a doodle

Is that reg plate a coincidence, or is that where the STW IT team spaffed their forum update budget?

There is a preview button you know

    It doesn’t work.

I also don’t see any formatting buttons, on any browser.

I can add tags though, which is good. EDIT hmmm…

What version of Mac OS are you on? iPhotos was scrapped a long time ago. Have you tried the Photos app? I just had a quick look and it seemed OK.

We have a cable which conducts electricity better in one direction than the other?

Yes, we do, and it also helps the band play in time. What a pair of them will do will make your jaw drop!

The differences have been quite clearly described for you up there, but ‘any good’ seems to really be boiling down to your own needs. Why not just get a trial of each and decide for yourself?

seems pic sharing doesnt work the same anymore, anyone any ideas ?

Pinkbike? MTBR? Seriously though, try copying the BBCode from Flickr, then just cutting out the text between (and including) the img tags

Lightroom very good for workflow and lots of images. Photoshop better for specific adjustments.

PS is editing – cutting up, adding objects/layers, manipulating specific areas of an image and so on, with somewhat limited and clunky controls for developing. LR is for easily and quickly developing photos – adjusting exposure, colour, contrast, with a few editing features like split-tone, vignette and lens corrections.

You’ve completely made that up Three_Fish.

    I wish I had.

They also go to a lot of live gigs and concerts. They are basically trying to recreate the same connection…

Well there’s a fool’s errand if ever there was one.

It’s to do with musical intent, subtlety and communication.

Oh give me a break. Nobody, and I repeat, nobody, needs 500quid cables to be able to discern any of those things in a recording. I’m fortunate to know a lot of musicians – I’m a bit of an old hand myself – from punks and grungers to professional jazz players, and I know people who record and produce for a living. Many musicians record and many recording engineers play. I don’t think I can think of a single one who is also an ‘audiophile’. Most of them love music, though; funnily enough. It’s almost offensive to artists and engineers, to suggest that their work can only be properly appreciated with pretentiously over-priced equipment.

It’s nothing to do with breaths/noises.

    Really?

Isn’t it great when, even after all this time an upgrade proves to be little short of jaw-dropping? Very familiar with the track, but this was the first time I’ve been able to hear Sandy Denny’s breath passing through her throat as she sings.

Get in the sea man :) Currently listening to the track streamed from YouTube on my MacBook and I can hear her breath as she sings. That’s just what her voice sounds like. Granted, it’s easier to hear when I stream through the hifi, but if you’ve never heard it before it’s nothing to do with your speakers unless you were previous listening through potatoes. It’s a lovely song, on that we agree.

“pace, rhythm and timing” – musicality.

All wholly independent of audio quality unless, again, possibly when played through a potato.

It’s anyone’s business what they spend their money on, but if you’re going to play show and tell then you have to be prepared to have people point out your bullshit. It also totally undermines your ‘expertise’ when you refuse to acknowledge the significance of one of the most important factors in audio reference.

Very tasty, very toasty!. Tried this method with my Flahavan’s oats this morning and really enjoyed the difference. I found I could have done with a little less coconut milk (no milk for me) than usual, though perhaps I could have anticipated that. Thanks OP.

“I paid hundreds/thousands for xxxxxxx and now I can hear the bassist farting at the two-minute mark”, or, “I paid hundreds/thousands for xxxxxxx and now I can hear the singer’s breath wafting over the mic.”.

…is basically how it goes, and demonstrates how the ‘audiophile’ doesn’t really understand audio. It’s much more a matter of ”I spent hundreds/thousands and listened so hard for a difference that I heard something I hadn’t heard before”.

This lack of understanding of sound is usually also made apparent by a failure to adequately treat the space that the equipment is played in.

LR is for developing images; PS is for editing. If you want/need to do any ‘cutting up’, then get PS and live with its dev limitations. Maybe try something free like Darktable for more compact dev controls.

It sounds like the anxiety/fear is of loss. If she’s with you (on call, in text, in person) she’s not with anyone else, at least for a while. To some extent, you have to learn to trust the individual, based on their character and behaviour. In a new relationship, what has happened in old relationships can be seen as foundations for what is likely to happen in the future. How did you deal with the infidelity in your earlier relationship?

    Three_Fish

    I’m hoping someone’s experienced similar.

Everyone gets anxious, it’s a human response to potential/perceived threat. What are the thoughts you have? You keep stating that you trust her, rather than that you fear she’ll get run over by a bus, so is it safe to say that is at the root of the anxiety? What do you trust her to do?

What exactly are you anxious about?

Because being a victim is a state of mind and it’s not my state of mind

I knew what you were implying. Being a victim is not a state of mind; feeling victimised is. You already know this as you’ll comfortably refer to as victims people who have been through something similar. You can’t change the fact that you have been a victim of something, that you allowed something to happen to you and/or that you were powerless. Acknowledging and metabolising that is a significant part of the healing process, and it seems from most of your posting history that you’ve missed it out. You’re saying the words you think you should be saying – “I am not a victim” – but your expressions/actions do not agree. I wonder if you’ve forgiven yourself.

I’ve said this before – ironically, you laughed at it and had it deleted – but you have to be very, very careful when you choose to go down such an extroverted, egoistic route to some sense of recovery, using others to fight your way to or defend conclusions – it’s like people who hang around in shopping areas to convince people that they need Jesus. I sincerely wish that you make it to a place where you feel your history is resolved, just don’t forget that you have a responsibilty to others, and indeed yourself, to arrive there alone.

This might sound very odd but I actually feel I learned a lot from the experience even if I rather it hadn’t happened.

Seriously? It would only sound odd if I’d never experienced anything in my entire life and was also completely unaware of even the concept of experience.

Don’t rely only on activities to distract you at a time that the keenest pain is felt – grief needs an outlet before it can be resolved. It can, ‘they’ say, make an artist of everyone. Perhaps writing to your parents would help you through the process? There’s always much to say to people we know we won’t speak to again.

Why are you (OP) “categorically” not a victim, when you describe as such other people who have the same experience?

Why didn’t they get somebody to beta-test the forums before going live? It’s hard to imagine anyone saying “yes, the user experience is markedly improved. You’ve clearly spent a lot of time considering how people interact with something as basic as a forum, then making sure that those interactions are the simplest to achieve.” Sorry guys, it’s not a good job. What was the thinking behind, for example, getting rid of the ‘threads replied to’ page? Why would users not want to refer to that?

    It is, relatively; yes.

    What’s the big deal?

I’m going to say entitlement. The video appears to show somebody on a bicycle who considers their own progress more important than that of, oh, let’s say for the sake of argument, a dying child*. Of course, as had already been pointed out, the rider may have headphones in or be totally deaf; but if awareness of the ambulance’s approach is assumed, then the one on the bike would probably be wise to question their sense of importance/entitlement. We do not know, however, if the rider was also on their way to tend a dying child**

That analogy isn’t even remotely close

Because it’s not an analogy; it’s a comparison of the standard/quality of produce that allows much of the high street to be profitable, which, current tribulations aside, Thornton’s have been for decades. I could have used Starbucks or any other retailer that one associates with high street or retail park trading. They survive, and often thrive, because they are ‘OK’, not because they’re exceptional or luxurious or tailor-made. They’re OK and pretty much anyone can afford them.

I’d go Wabi Sabi on it and make a feature of it. I’m busy making a cabinet with brass inlay (3.2mm and 19.5mm) and it looks absolutely beautiful. So, yeah, you get my vote for brass, with mitred corners. How you do it depends on what tools you have available to you…

This is 5mm, but you get the point. It’ll look darker the more polished it is.

I think the original question still stands: how has a national chain of shops selling nothing but “ok” (at best) chocolate, stayed open?

Because it’s OK, like virtually every other item for sale on the high street. Why not ask: how has H&M stayed open selling nothing but OK clothes? The answer is the same: because ‘OK’ is what enough people either find acceptable or don’t know better than.

If you have a solid piece of oak then there is no real need for the separate frame.

It looks nicer than a single piece, especially as it refers to the cross-board of the top step.
