Personally, I’d keep the wood. UPVC windows are very poor acoustically due to the low mass of both the material and the hollow design of the pieces, so you will get more sound/noise from outdoors if you remove the (greater mass) wood.

If you’re trying to achieve Ketosis then you’ll have to avoid rice of any variety. It’s a high-starch carb. A real low carb diet will be less than 20-30g of carbs per day, there are around 40-45g in one cup of rice.

You need to think laterally with any new diet, but low-carb especially. If whatever you usually have with your rice doesn’t go with anything else, then you may need to change that as well as the rice. Cauliflower rice is a great replacement though, if a little less simple to make. Search online for recipes.

This site has excellent information on the hows and whys of low carb.

Yes, it needs a data connection. If it has ‘find my iPhone’ then it’s signed into iCloud and Apple will be able to contact the owner.

I’d just presume that it was one of the maids or stable lads stocking their own larder. There’d be a **** inquisition if one container of Dolmio made it into the kitchens let alone six. Jesus Christ I’m palpitating at just the thought of it…

The Edge looks so out of his depth in that series; very ordinary. Jack White is like a kid, it’s beautiful. He has the same feel as Page, if not the technical ability. Not really fair to compare though, he’s a very different type of player. I absolutely love listening to Jimmy Page, especially his solos. He’s the perfect example of how to push, push, push the limits of your own ability and knowledge. One of the things that makes him such a pleasure to listen to is that he makes so many mistakes, but his talent, and indeed the expansiveness of his overall sound, is in the recovery. You can hear him wander off from the riff and when he hits a wall or trips up, that’s when he smashes it with a note or chord you just wouldn’t ever imagine or expect. Never stop exploring and don’t be afraid to get it wrong, that’s what I learned from Jimmy Page.

Well, i listened to that and if you think it is comparable to Zep you need some new ears.

I’m not sure you even know what your ears are.

I just sampled their latest album on iTunes – I like it. Clearly derivative, but plenty of talent. Reckon they’d be fantastic live.

    Where’s the pozidrive?

    It’s American I think

It’s common enough here. All decent wood screws, for example, are Pozi – it’s a much more secure interface (eight-point over four-point) so you get greater torque with less chance of cam-out. It’s always worth looking for the extra X on an X-head screw as a Phillips (PH) driver will ruin a PZ fixing in no time.

That chart is super-helpful, thanks very much.

All of these things are very obvious and have been tried.

You could have said so and saved me the bother of suggesting them. Mad though how you still get mouse noise with a track pad…

Get two neoprene/fabric mouse mats – one for the mouse, one for the monitor. Check if/where the mouse cable is contacting the desk or monitor. It really shouldn’t be necessary to damp/isolate the monitor/camera, so…

…don’t hit your keys so hard, or get a better quality keyboard. Use a track pad.

See if you can turn down the mic sensitivity in your settings.

Can I get some kind of mat for the whole desktop?

Obviously. You can also use a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

That wear line is easily within the limits of normal. If you use the tri-align method to align the caliper, give setting it up by eye a go. A brake works best when both pads are perfectly parallel to the rotor and both pads contact at the same time. Obviously, neither of those requirements can be achieved with cable calipers, hence their being more prone to noise and other vibration.

Will it not catch on the rear side frame when opening if the rear side of the door is recessed?

Yes indeed, but that’s why I suggested you’d need to move the hinges. You might have to replace the hinges depending on their design. The hinge pin would need to sit proud of the rear of the door, enough so that, when open, the door is held away from the frame. If the pin is, say, 3mm proud, then you’ll get a 6mm gap. How far out the pin needs to be will depend on the profile of your door frame. So long as the pin is at least in line with the corner of the frame, the door will clear the frame; if that makes sense!?

What would need packing out? The front face will butt up against the frame, the rear face will be essentially recessed 10mm. Hinges and latches will need repositioning, but otherwise I don’t see any problem.

The use of terms to identify the people and their actions is, I’m sure, counterproductive, if not evidently harmful. ‘The driver’ did this; ‘the cyclist’ did that. If the focus would be left of what one individual’s actions were, and the mode of transport incidental, it creates much less opportunity toy for assumption and side-taking, and more potential for more people to see the incident from the victim’s perspective. It’s very irresponsible reporting, and sadly largely typical.

Always send with a signature required. I wouldn’t personally use Hermes. If you’re going to be doing a lot, consider an account with somebody like DPD, who I think are the benchmark for couriers. Otherwise I actually find Royal Mail very good – also easy to collect if first delivery can’t be made.

Wrap things well, with their protection in mind.

If your items have serial numbers, take note.

Your listing should have great photos anyway, but make sure to get a series of shots covering all aspects. These two points protect you from people trying it on with ‘broken’ items.

Be honest in your listing/description. The more info the better, make sure people know what they’re getting. Think like a buyer when preparing the listing. You’ll also generally get higher bids if people have fewer questions/doubts about an item.

Assumptions that people close to you are interested in the same things as you. Targeted advertising. FB knows who you know and what your relationship is.

What a fascinating article. I wonder if it still holds true though, given that it was written 12 years ago (and updated in 2009). The internet and user engagement has changed enormously. Facebook is, what? 15 years old? Smartphones have been on the rise since 2010. I’d genuinely like to see an up-to-date survey.

The term ‘contributor’ could probably do with a very specific definition!

Well if I’d entered whatever this is, I certainly wouldn’t be advertising it to others, thus reducing my chances of winning.

250 CE. It’s always been the pillarless coupe for me. I’ll have one someday…

    Merc pagoda

When I was in my early 20s I worked for a guy who had a ’69 280 SL, in cream. He came in one day just before I finished and asked if I had an hour spare to drop his car off back at his house – his wife would drop me back up for mine. I thought he meant his usual car, which was a Renault 25, so when he gave me the key to the 280, saying simply, “don’t scratch it”, my head spun. It was a 6 mile drive and I can still remember every last bit of it to this day. Nothing happened, I just drove this beautiful old car, with the top off (the car, not me), along a route I’d driven a hundred times. I tried really hard to look cool, calm and sophisticated, but I’m fairly sure I just had a massive, stupid cheesy grin on my face the whole way.

A beveled saw will want to pull the piece through as it cuts, leaving you with a wandering line even if the blade is square to the fence. If you can’t push/hold the piece firmly against the fence and table, get a clamp on it. I’d not trust the laser either. If you can screw a flat piece to the fence and make your bevel cut, it’ll perfectly reference where the blade is going to cut. Line your cut-mark up with the cut on the ‘fence’ and you’ll get it right every time.

Another vote for a pull saw – way more intuitive than Western tools, I find. You’ll benefit from clamps here too – if you don’t have a vice, clamp the piece to a table top and kneel down to cut the notch, so you’re face on to the cut. The weight of the saw will help you cut cleanly as you’re cutting on the back/down stroke anyway – it’s true of most tools really: let them do the work, you just keep them straight/level.

The filters/presets for colour images in Lightroom are quite limited, though I believe you can do download additional  ones made by users. In the Develop module, presets are down the left side on the pane and the Develop settings are down the right. If you look at how the Develop settings change when you apply the presets, then you’ll learn quite quickly how the filter/preset works and can easily start to develop without using them.

Here’s a link to a long-handled spade for your holes. At 5’11” you’ll probably find it easier on your back…

If you already have a spade, and I presume you have, why not just dig a hole next to wherever you want to fork and stand in it to do the forking? That’s just physics, relativity or something. It’ll have the hidden benefit of giving you some extra holes at the allotment, for plants and such like.

Basic oils like teak and danish won’t protect against UV, and require a good deal of work and some degree of knowledge to apply properly, not to mention quite a bit of time initially and in future maintenance. Try something like Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain – quick/easy to apply and to very low maintenance.

    Stop excusing these little rats

Identifying abstract influences, separate from individual responsibility, does not excuse individual responsibility. It certainly doesn’t miss any ‘point’. You have a somewhat narrow, blinkered view of the question. What do you think the question is?
