Budget for a fiver for coffee and cake on the south coast.

a couple of places are (significantly) cheaper and a couple of places are over. They have to make sure it;s worth it to be over otherwise we’re not coming back.

I’m disapointed with ‘bean-to-cup’ machines and ‘celophane’ wrapped cake portions

+1, Value is pretty important. I don’t mind instant coffee but i don;t wanna pay more than £1.

Swinley = overpriced: coffee average cake crap. Still a fiver.

shift to a road bike route?

that needs serious consideration – it’s really difficult to do that and stay off major roads plus it turns into a massive day out.

If I position to the left of the centre line I stop the cars behind me for as long as it takes to make the turn making them very impatient.

I often think that cyclists need to ride more like cars, as drivers know what to expect.

They’d have to wait if you were in a car.

Also drivers more likely to flash you out if you hold up a line of cars.

I’ll be starting round 6 or 7 of Wessex league as i’m on away for the first few rounds.

Aiming to do at least 4 rounds, have fun and hopefully get a bit more involved in racing than i have previously.

I’d like to swap my frame as i’m running a salsa vaya with huuuge chainstays; no funds though…

    i did it 2015.

I stayed as close to the start as possible (Cambrai).

Friday: I dropped my stuff at the hotel. Drove to Roubaix and parked near the velodrome and took the train back to Cambrai.

Saturday: rode to the start. in the dark, without lights, partially on cobbles/ through fields. If you’re riding to the start plan your route better than i did! feed stations are very sugary/ sweet. you may want to take some food with you.

Sunday: Spectated at Arenburg. They had food/ beer and big screens at one end of the forest. Was a brilliant party atmosphere.

I was supposed to be with the GF and we would have been tempted to chase the race, as it was just me i went to Arenburg and stayed there. I reckon chasing wouldn’t have been worth the hassle.

    As an aside from that.

biggest tyres you can. saw plenty of people on cross bikes/ 32mm slicks i reckon this is the best option. Don’t worry about tops/ drops only; 50% of the pros were on the hoods when i saw them. Work on your grip strength and core strength. this is easily as important as bike strength. start NOW.

I’m looking to shift my focus and looking for some advice/ thoughts.

I’ve been through build, sustained power and century training plans.

I’ve completed my century (london 100), and the training seemed to have done it’s job. I’m now looking forward to CX season which i’m going to dabble with this winter.

This blog post [/url] on Road into CX suggests sustained power into a CX plan.

I’m thinking Short Power into a CX plan, as i’ve already done the Sustained Power plan.

    Does my logic hold up?

Surprisingly we went through a lot of sets of cleats. Quite a few people saying they didn’t want to replace them the day before (why they didn’t replace them a month ago I don’t know), then found they broke on the day!

I walked further yesterday in cleats then in the last three months. Probably a mile in the olympic park; strange that they make you dismount – i expect for safety – before letting you ride 100 miles!

Day didn’t get off to the best start: 2 hours sleep, frozen porridge, and the shower was scalding hot.

Saw a crash before we’d even got to QEOP in the muck from last nights rain.

My first London 100 and I loved it. Probably the best organised & most fun sportive I’ve done.

Did 4:59, I wanted sub 5 hours so I’m stoked. Also raised 2.4k for Anthony Nolan. A lot of sponsorship from STW. So cheers :D

According to him there is so much information on the web nowadays for social science related stuff, it is hardly worth doing it anymore unless you have not studied for first degree previously or you do not have one.

sons of anarchy was the worst ending. It’s over 100 hours long – i invested some of my life in this.

final episode he rides round on a bike tieing up 7 series worth of loose ends for a nice tidy finish.

    I wish i’d stopped 1 episode short.

    Why not simply:
Let the ladies manage the event how they like.

This isn’t an event in isolation – it’s within the context of a a sport that clearly has some gender issues.

    hence the confusion & discussion.

Anyone know of any on-line guides on how to measure hub/BB shell/crank offset etc. and work out the correct BB to get the chainline right? It’s a definite gap in my knowledge.

    i don’t think you can.

It’s down to the crank manufacturer. They will tell you the right BB to get specified chainline.

Adjusting for non standard chainline becomes a game of suck and see/ measuring due to the non centring issue of BBs that i mentioned up there ^.

easier to see if the pedals are turning. You need a friend to do that for you while you look from the back wheel, or an OAP gribber-grabber.

    turn the wheel bacwkwards?

Two British parents, born and raised in Kenya and South Africa.

Wiggins – one British parent, born in Belgium, moved to UK when he was 2

One is somehow magically not British but the other is.

to be fair wiggins never raced for Belgium as a junior.

rear chain line is 47.5 then.

this matches up with mtb middle ring. road outer is 46mm (so close enough imo although a 1mm spacer would help)

cranks need to be spaced with the correct BB to give you the correct chainline.

be cautious spacing chainline with BB as not all square tapers are equal. IE 116 may not be 110 + 3 each side.

Find a crank you like and then source a BB to give you the right chainline – it’s easier that way.

    +1

EDIT: kmc z610/ z510 are the best SS chains by miles.

Main point of the post was to see if the amount of wobble would be classed as ‘needing a bit of a true’

I’d say no. but depends wheter you can fix it; seized nipples would imply not though…

*i’m far from a wheel expert*

have you tried detensioning and looking at how round the rim is. can be an indication of wheter it’ll go round again.

something like this is a good start.

And yes you will have to sift through the people who think it’s worth £200 beacuse it cost £400 25 years ago and it’s in good condition!!

    Any other good suggestions?

Assuming I will need tyres, saddles, bar grips/tape, cables&outers, brake blocks/pads, BB, as a minimum, what is this realistically going to cost?

    8O

    expensive way to do it!!

browse ebay for old (90s) mtbs. collection only keeps the price down.

    I bought a 90s raleigh for £15.
It only needed tyres (all cracked). £30

I’ve since added a nexus hub gear (£15 off ebay) + £10 for spokes.
and some swept back bars £12.

Need to add some mudguards and a rack/ basket and i’m finished.

Reviously did a 90s raleigh road bike and it was in similar good condition. (that one cost a bit more as i didn’t realise how big sussex was so it was a LONG drive to collect. still only £15 though).
