Be prepared for a lot of frustration, when learning to pedal kick I found that I’d hop backwards twice for every leap forward. It’ll come though.

me too. it comes from learning to back hop and then adding in the pedal kick.

you need to add in a third stage which is to drop the front wheel a bit. before the pedal kick & simultaneous hop, which can be up; not back.

to call the UK, just take the first 0 of the front of the UK number, and ad 0044…

that aint right. (are you my wife? she doesn’t get it either!)

the 00 is a uk international thing. US equivilent is 011.

Central Park being much like any other park and possibly a waste of half a day?

Just got back. Included in the pass you can do a bike tour/ hire bikes.
We missed the guided tour (arrive early) and went self-guided and it decided that it was probably lucky.

Then on the final morning got up early, took the citibike and ran round the resovoir with the locals. great way to see it; it beautiful in early light and no tourist at 7am.

I’d personally not go up The Empire State and go to the top of the Rockefeller Centre

empire state interior is amazing though. and rockafella centre was the worst experience we had in 2.5 weeks in the US just herded around needlessly queing for ages.

snapped a gt tequesta through the dropout so the seatstay chainstay were no longer joined.

It was about 10 years old and had been a trials bike, a mountainbike, a commuter and done several long rides at that point. it seemed a fair retirement.

haven’t ridden for years but i (mis)spent my youth hopping about on the back wheel.

practice practice practice. lots of moves involve being on one wheel or the other and some amount of precision.

silly little games are great fun to practice, put out some playing cards/ beer mats in a row try and hop from one to another. as they move around the game gets interseting.

natural trials is much more difficult than urban stuff; but never looks as good on film.

    where do you live?

Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Derby and Southampton

are to get Clean Air Zones 2019.

I’m southampton based so a diesel is out for me. currently not proposing private cars be included but i’m sure they will follow. Shame they scrapped the cycling plan!

I think 2 years would be ok to hold onto it.

what are there goals – if it’s just “general fitness” then i’m not convinced its necessary. if it were increase muscle mass then absolutley.

Are they training consecutive days? I find recovery is much more important if you are expecting to do it all again the next day.

Proteins and carbs for recovery after cardio.

If you’re worried about protein shakes, just feed him an extra chicken breast.

quite hard to do in that 20 minute window after a gym session.

I had an inbred singlespeed – swapped for a scandal 29 – which i’m still riding.
Along side this i had a pompino; still my commuter.
Then built up a geared 456;which i took to the alps in favour of my full sus. swapped that for a inbred 29.

I was a fanboi – but they don’t seem to have updated stuff enough recently. Geometery on more recent stuff was a real dissapointment.

Plus the fact that most of the stuff on the website is a con – most recently bought tyres – listed as scwalbe evos got performance.

I’ll probably never buy from them again.

was 12.2 kg with 47c tyres.

new wheels tyres and a few bits of bling got it down to 9.8. Not to shabby for a 3.3 kg frame/ fork.

Changed it for a CX bike so will have to start a new spreadhseet.

My Grandmother made the difficult decision to refuse any more medical care – efeectivley ending her life. We all got round the bed and said goodbye etc.

After being silent for about 15 minutes, she opened her eyes and shouted ‘Oh get on with it‘. absolutley hilarious at the time.

Getting the family round because you know it’s about to end is comforting but also odd. I’ve watched two of my grandparents die; literally take their last breath. I’m not sure I’d allow my family in when it comes to my time.

I don’t think i want to know now – but i might in years to come.

Gravel roads in the US or Aus actually go somewhere, so there is a point to them.

They do down south. Taken on yesterdays ride; near hants/ wilts border.

I can live with it being called ‘speed’, but I can’t deal wtih my riding buddy calling them ‘fixed’ or ‘fixies’.. I explained to him about 5 times what the difference is, but he still refers to them as ‘fixies’.

get it fixed then give him a go.

don’t see how a stranger would make it any easier.

don’t think of a therapist as a stranger but as an expert. if you have a problem with the car – get a mechanic; it’s the same deal.

They are generally quieter, and last a lot longer than a standard rubber tyre.

    no and yes.

mine is so loud i’ve taken it off. DCRainmaker agrees that some are louder.

We had a teacher who was completley jaded with her career choice, was a awful teacher and was so disinterested in being there; this was like the smell of blood to lower set french. We started out with silly thingsd like turning all the desks facing the back of the room and claim ‘they were like that when we got here’. Or leaving sweets, which had be pre licked, on the desk and she would no doubt eat the lot.

She used to leave the room a lot – to smoke in the non smoking teachers room.A game developed of throwing things to/at each other at the back of the class. It started small but developed a set of ‘rules’ and became the highlight of french lessons. At some point it seemed a good idea to set fire to the ball we were throwing so a tennic ball sprayed in lynx (africa no doubt, this was the 90s) and on fire was being thrown about at the back of the class whilst miss was writing on the board! 8O I eventually got moved up a set – nothing to do with her teaching – and it got worse!

My BILs class convinced the teacher to stand in the bin whilst they all threw rubbish in the bin/ at him.

    Kids can obviosuly smell weakness!

i work with academics so the list is long; the students are, as a rule, turned out better than the staff!

right on; only shop in oxfam.
    sneans
    flip flops & shorts
‘what size feet do you have, i have an important meeting and don’t own any decent shoes’
new rock boots & a cowboy hat
    beard tucked into trousers
    3 shades of corduroy
    Homemade elbow patches
trackies and a football shirt to a meeting where most people have suited and booted.

never have i found it so easy to appear smart

But among 25- to 34-year-olds, 19% have no savings, and a further 30% have less than £1,000 saved. The survey found 36% had been overdrawn in the last 12 months, and 37% had taken out payday loans.

I see facts like this fairly regulary and help but think this is written by baby-boomers who just don’t get it.

To get our education we took out huge loans which we are now paying back, in addition to our greatly inflated mortgages – which are taken over 35 year terms just to mean we can actually payback the huge amounts we’ve had to borrow. What are we supposed to save?

The situation is so different from our parents/ grandparents generations.

EDIT: I thought i’d add that school led me to believe that a degree would get me an amazing job/ lifestyle and i’d have a new porsche at 30. Well i’m 33 and i’ve got a 15 YO BMW – i guess thats close. The point being i’ve been given unrealistic expectations of what a degree will lead to.

you can get a 5 year fixed at about the %ge you have on variable ATM. That should be past brexit enough to see what rates are doing. 10yr fixed is overly cautious imo. Also big %ge fees to get out of 10 yr fixed (at least near beginning)

point is – it’s not just head angle.

I’m a bit concerned about setting up the rear brake though as the rim height will change with the eccentricity of the rear hub.

I don;t think this will be an issue.
