AI. Brilliant until the ‘Spielberg’ moment…

Whyte is longer, lower and slacker, more up my street, hence the IMHO 🙂

Whyte all day long for me with that geo, seems way more ‘current’ than the other two IMHO

Got my Stanton Sherpa from Holy Spokes, top lads in there. It’s a stunning frame too, beautifully made and finished, to echo fr0sty125’s sentiments. Love the blue on that Slackline too shredder, had your frame off the hooks a few times in admiration, before it was yours that is!!

Shim shy of 6′ here and built a 17″ which for me is perfect.

Was up there yesterday doing the zip lines, wished I’d brought my bike too as that looked loads of fun!

daftvader, if you haven’t ridden it in anger yet you are in for a treat 😀

Finally! I knew there must have been some other Stanton fans out there…

Looks awesome but the photos never quite do that shade of green the justice it deserves, it’s truly stunning.

Looks like a 19″ to me devash although happy to be corrected by the OP. I’m as near as damn it 6′ and went for the 17″ with 604mm ETT, it was the correct decision for me, these things are low and very long…

Could be the junction where the fork steerer meets the fork crown.

Decent bike shop? Leeds? I’ve been using Holy Spokes in Horsforth since they rocked up a year or so ago, top lads

Thanks all for your generally very kind comments 🙂

Surprised I haven’t seen more posted in the forum yet tbh, switchbacks too.

Seat is comfy indeed and, fwiw, I think it works although brown saddles are always a bit Marmite. Wheels are from previous bike, they’re great but I’d prefer black for aesthetics.

Z1ppy, the trace is set at 120mm.

Joshvegas, that is a mud hugger as Jamie correctly points out.

Zerocool, I’ve only had two rides so far but I’ve set her up as a 29er slackline as you put it… Certainly felt an awful lot of fun hooning down the decent over the top of Baildon towards Shipley glen the other day! Bit of a hooligan actually…

Comments regarding strimming are correct, good eyes z1ppy, the bald spot in the lawn was caused by poor strimming technique!

I can heartily recommend x fusion, they seem to be the bargain fork of the moment with great performance at a more than reasonable rrp, although you might struggle to get a 29″ wheel in a velvet…!

I’d be looking at these for an xc fork based on your budget and description. Buying forks used can be iffy territory…

Chris, sorry for the thread hijack of sorts, particularly as I know it rightly annoys a number of STWers but I have tried every conceivable way of contacting you regarding my broken Liberator that I can think of and received no reply… Could you please fire me an email to the address on my profile and I’ll fill you in on the details. Cheers.

Already got some x fusions waiting, set at 120 out of the box so that’s what I’ll be trying! Any idea when the frames will be landing? Starting to get giddy…!

Has anyone seen one in “Shadow Gray”, or know how dark that colour is?

Probably the same as the Slackline 853 grey:

what it’s worth and what people are willing to pay are two separate things entirely

Actually, they are exactly the same… If they were separate, Apple would never sell a thing!

Brant has just reminded me, my regular riding buddy rides a 456 evo2 and swears by it. It is an absolute bargain of a frame and easily the most comfortable, compliant back end I’ve ever experienced on a hard tail. He’s also loads faster than me (but I think that’s him rather than the bike 😉 )

Got an Evil Sovereign which will never get sold, it’s that good, trouble is you can’t buy them anymore as far as I can tell. Had a Cotic bfe in the not too distant past, lovely bike but missing that difficult to define ‘spark’ that the sov has. If I was buying today, it would be a Stanton Slackline for me…

Do love on one/planet x, even though this is the first time in 3 orders that I’ve actually got all the right things in the parcel!

Saw the revs at that price and was very tempted but decided to give it a go at 100mm first… Also going to try 1×10 with an 11-36 before adding a rex as I’m not convinced I’ll need the extra range up there… Will now have an x0 rear mech though, got one yesterday from on one for under £73!

    Cannot wait for June :-)#)

I have :-). Build is going to be 1×10, 100mm Reba’s (because I already have them), dropper and a plethora of bling hanging from it as far as my wallet will allow! Thinking carbon bars, chromag trail master Ltd, hope pedals etc etc

Based on your description of what you want the bike for, the Stanton switchback probably looks the best option mentioned above. Love the Stanton’s, got a Sherpa ordered and if I could justify a switchback I think I’d get one just for the paint job! As it is, I have a sovereign for looning around on (for now)…

Have you looked at the btr fabrications frames? Expensive but designed for exactly what you describe.

OP, it would be really worth your while searching out a demo of the steel 456 evo2. It has, by far, the most compliant rear end of any hard tail I have ever ridden. Way, way more than the previous 456’s…

Jamo concert 8’s fed by a leema acoustics pulse amp. Neither of which are available to purchase new anymore but if you trawl that well known auction site you can quite often come across the jamos for ridiculously low prices (considering they were over £1500 when new, can be had mint for £3-400). All very personal but I’ve yet to hear them bettered for under £3k!

Another shout out for holy spokes in Horsforth, top lads and a couple of the best mechanics that I know. If they can’t fix it it probably wants binning!

They seemed more interested in watching the latest video on youtube

This was also my experience when I went in to the Rodley store a while back, think the guy was called Ed, barely even looked up. I didn’t go back!

the lads you dealt with have left

Interesting, might have a look in then next time I need something if I find myself Adel way.

Don’t know about the latest iteration of the Bfe but the last one had a limit of 180mm for a rear rotor. I’ve got a hope 183mm in mine and there’s definitely no room for anything bigger!

Not a lot of point having insurance if you aren’t going to use it, Don. Doesn’t sound like a spurious claim to me…

There is a lot of bickering here, and very little backing up of arguments.

While it is difficult to argue with someone who says that they themselves hear the differences between cables, if only because you are not sharing the same ears and brain to process the signal received from said ears, perhaps the naysayers could explain the reasons for not believing there to be differences?

Might even help to know what equipment was listened to and perhaps even the style of music? No willy waving, purely for reference.

For example, I can’t imagine anyone could pick the differences in cables while listening to whigfield on an alba…

My stance: I can easily tell the difference between some cables, and struggle to tell others apart. Some amplifiers reacts differently to speaker cables due to the construction of the output stage and available power, amongst other reasons. I do not believe there are any magical noise pixies at work. I do believe that electrical properties and interaction of those properties between various pieces of equipment are pretty much the only reason for sonic differences. Cost has pretty much nothing to do with it.

For reference, I listen to various types of music, from Mark Lanegan to The Dillinger Escape Plan via Radiohead, through a Rega Saturn CDP, Naim Nait 5i amp and Jamo Concert 8 speakers wired together with Rega Couple interconnect and Naim NACA5 speaker cables. I use these cables because they have been designed to work properly with the components of their name sake and are not excessively priced IMO. I have tried others, I moved them all on. Nothing was better.

If I had a substantial enough vinyl collection and a deck like the one stilltortoise linked to…

…then it’d be vinyl all day and night long.

I have hundreds of CD’s and therefore I have a CD player, which to my ears outperforms any comparable record spinner at the price, and still always buy CD’s and always will as long as they are being manufactured and sold. Just can’t beat that tactile sensory perception IMO.

Digital downloads, to me at least, it feels like I don’t actually own the music, if you know what I mean.
