Ok great, Thanks. I guess you just taped up the rims. What tape did you use out of interest ?

Marin Eldridge Grade in 1992, matt black and red/orange. What a great bike that was, lasted for years and many miles, never needed anything replacing

Anybody been following “Sex, Drugs & Murder” on the Beeb ? Only on once a month now but on iPlayer. Finding it scarily fascinating.

Yeah I saw that on my FB too, I’m always amazed by the level of ignorance in the replies to this stuff. Can THAT many people be THAT thick ?
    I guess they can …..

Do you need it to move out of the way so that you can open the tailgate ?
If so have a look at the Atera Strada, it ain’t cheap but is very nice quality and well designed.
It will move down and away from the vehicle with the bikes in place allowing you space to open the tailgate properly.

@countzero Where was that photo of Yak red 27 taken ? Curious to see that Royal Navy Phantom in the background

There are no airworthy Zeroes and Gary Numan’s Harvard Zero lookalike is long gone. The Royal Jordanian Falcons display team have been around recently flying Extras, not sure if they were at Cosford or not.
And the colourful Tornado was Italian, the Norwegians don’t have Tonkas.

Pedalcover. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
Have several bikes on my home contents insurance through them, max value per bike is £10k, no need to list them all and no limit on the number of bikes.
And you get to speak to a real (and very pleasant) person.

Just out of interest GeeTee, which town was this ?
Reason I ask is that there a couple of towns nearby with fairs at the moment and wondering if it might have been one of those.

Where I used to live there were several dog poo bins scattered about. Someone would collect all of the dog turds out of their garden and put them in a black bin liner over the course of a few weeks. Then they would take the bin liner and dump it next to a poo bin, cos it was too big to fit in by this time. Then everyone would ignore it, including the blokes who empty the bin until it’s been sat there for a couple of weeks. By which time the bag has split and spilt it contents all over the place.
The stench was atrocious, flies, maggots, the works. All over the place. Right next to a path.
    Delightful behaviour.
Then, after asking the Parish Council to do something about it several times, it would disappear, only for the next black bin liner to appear a week or so later !
    Seriously WTF !?!?!?!?!
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Strange this, offloading due to over booking happens at the gate, not on the aircraft. If he was to be offloaded he should have got nowhere near the aircraft.

Agree entirely, there is absolutely no place for this nonsense in the 21st century.

I lived for a while next to a main road in a small but busy town.
There was a mini roundabout about 50 metres away so traffic was forever braking or accelerating, or queueing.
The noise was horrible, the queuing traffic was the worse. The worst thing by a country mile was the t***s using hands-free phones at full volume that you could hear outside the damn car, especially the ring tone bit. What is the point of that !!
That and endless passing sirens from the police/fire/ambulance stations up the road.
The grime was bad too, when we moved out and cleaned properly the black dust around the inside of the windows (old house/rubbish windows) was appalling.
    Never again !

Presumably they pay you direct to your bank account and don’t deduct tax etc. ?

    TheWrongTrousers

    Interesting, thanks for the insights.
How do they pay you ? Per shift, daily, weekly ?
Considering it as a way to earn a few extra quid alongside my regular day job which is shift-based meaning I have a fair bit of time off during the week.

    Completely bonkers.
We regularly oscillate from normal/energetic/funny/generous to scary/mental/accusing me of changing her will and stealing her money.
I don’t trust her with anything anymore, let alone anything remotely personal that can be used against me later.
Not really sure if she’s always been like that or if she’s got worse with age.
She’s 80 now and frankly, I just can’t be arsed.

Mind you, Barons and Der Barons are different tyres aren’t they ?
    So feel free to ignore.
I’ve used Trail Kings / Rubber Queens before too and they work fine but they are supposed to be tubeless-ready.

    TheWrongTrousers

No they’re not tubeless-ready, although I’ve got Barons on two bikes, both set up tubeless with no bother at all. Slightly more painful on Stans Flow rims but went up and sealed first time on CrossMax UST rims. Although the latter ones may well have been used tubeless before (second-hand) so effectively pre-sealed.

I used to live around 35 miles from work and rode in two or three days a week by driving part-way and cycling the rest. This left with me with approx 18 miles each way along canal towpaths on a mountain bike. Used to love doing this, did it all year round.
I thought I’d try riding all the way, so got a cheap-ish road bike and rode all the way from home to work on the road. Reasoning being that on a road bike I’d be faster and therefore the door-to-door time (including the driving) would be about the same, around 2 hours and much less faff.
What I found was that I only managed once a week mostly as I was too knackered to contemplate it more and still get the off-road fix at home twice a week. The route wasn’t so great, several busy roads and less nature to look at.
So I went back to the mountain bike, the car and the canal and enjoyed it much more.
So in summary, 70miles once a week was do-able but not a lot of fun compared to the shorter off-road route even with the addeed faffage which I could do more often.
Nowadays I commute every day on the road for around 10 miles each way. I miss the longer distances and I’m getting bored of the route. I’ll aim to extend and chuck in some off-road sections as the weather starts to improve.
