Near Scalby Mills in Scarborough there was an XR3i with the plate SPY1N. This was about 25 years ago mind.

Just for balance I have TomTom on my iPhone and it works very well both in the UK and France.
Updates virtually every month via App Store. Haven’t noticed any bugs recently.
Traffic updates work very well too.

Bell Super fits sooooo nicely. No-one misses a bright green one.

    [Edit] £80 from Tweeks.

Great suggestions guys. Now need to look at shoes too…. 🙂

Endura Thermolight bibs look good. Any idea on the leg length?
Saying that last year I rode with knee length Seal Skin socks so calf area shouldn’t be a problem. May just go for 3/4 bibs.

    Any other shoe suggestions?

We went to Beadnell on the Northumberland Coast in February. Weather can be wild, but we enjoyed sunny/cloudy days and snowy nights.
100 yards from the cottage we rented to the beach. Beach is pretty long to the south, so the dogs can go bonkers and there is a nice pub in Low Newton By The Sea. There are places to visit like Alnwick Castle, Banburgh Castle, Seahouses, etc.

+1 for the M530’s. That price is very good too.

If you have any emails from them look at the internet headers and you will find IP addresses that show how they have been routed.

A few years ago I, and several colleagues, received a number of threatening emails from an ex-employee of our company under a false email address. He had sent them from his work PC, so I was able to trace the company via the IP address. We then contacted the IT manager of the firm in question and supplied the PC IP address that was also in the header.
Emails to myself and others stopped immediately, and we had enough evidence to involve the police.
Worth involving the police though if you think it is worth it.

    Ta bigG.
It was a while ago that I checked.
I have heard good things about Zen too.

I’ve been very happy with Plusnet including their customer services, but I will still look at other options when our area is upgraded to fibre (only 3 months now).
Moved back to God’s Own County after 10 years in Manc. Maybe my Yorkshire tones work better with Plusnet 😀

Have you considered Plusnet? A lot cheaper than BT, even they are owned by BT.
Be and O2 get very good reviews for their BB.

I sympathise with all who have had incidents like this.
Some people on the road (all types of transport) are just in too much of a rush to get to their destination. I have felt like this in a car myself, so I make the conscious decision to cycle commute every day.
The most effective things I have found from a safety point of view are to ride in a primary position on the road, use lifesaver looks a lot and use powerful front and back lights even in broad daylight.
I use Smudge’s Luminator on the front in epileptic flashy mode and people definitely know I’m there.
The number of incidents I have had just encourage me to find more fun, quieter routes to and from work. Mileage is up from 7 miles to 11.5 one way.

There is a 1999 Trek Y5 hidden in the garage, and it is in a sorry state now.
It stood up to 1000 miles of commuting and a few trips round the red at Dalby in the last year until it was retired in March.
Bought it when my custom built Orange Prestige was stolen. Still miss that bike 😥

Had one of the pointless buggers fly into my mouth on Thursday. It then decided that inside my lip was a good place to start stinging. Tried to pull it out, but only got the top half. Tried to extract again and got the back end.
Half an hour later lip had swelled right up and I had to extract the sting.
    Didn’t stop though!
Lip is still a mess 6 days later.

The first thing you should do when working out what power generation you require is to properly understand the demand – THEN try to optimise that. The most sensible first stage of optimisation is to reduce the requirement, then to even it out over the 24 hrs.

I was lucky enough to attend a training course for a previous employer related to installing the software to connect smart meters to the existing energy companies software.

The big cost to a power generation company is starting up another power station to cope with a sudden demand (i.e Eastenders finishing and the kettle goes on). IIRC the cost is ~10 times the norm.
They will start implementing tariffs that heavily charge for these times, thus reducing the sudden demand over time.
Smart meters will be used to profile everyone’s usage throughout the day.
Smart meters are not there to save you money, they are for the energy companies to save money.

Rather than look at solar photovoltaic cells, we are considering solar water heating cells. They are much more efficient that their electric versions and are likely to have a larger impact on your energy usage.
Insulation is obviously the best first step for UK housing stock, but for large scale take up, the cost of exterior insulation will have to drop considerably.

@igm Thanks. Have found their website. They look to still be in development, but haven’t updated anything since 2011.

+1 for the York Tap. Usual starting point when the guys from our village have a night on’t town.
Loads of Real Ale pubs in York, problem is too much choice really.

The eateries on Walmgate/Fossgate are very good.
Meltons Two (Mix), Barbikan (Polish), Mumbai Lounge (Indian), Khao San Road (Thai).
    Very hungry now.

A friend has mentioned that there is a type of horizontal wind turbine that can be retrofitted to the apex of a roof.
The theory is that the wind is forced upwards by the roofline, much like the effect on an aeroplane wing and drives the turbines at the top, thus maximising the wind energy harnessed. Couldn’t find any info on’t web though. Anyone else with a bit more knowledge?

From what I remember whilst doing a bit of work on the HMRC IT systems (I’m not overweight either 😉 ), Tax Inspectors are the only agency legally allowed to enter your property without a warrant. Also once they get their teeth in they don’t let go. Just saying….

We are looking to have some work done next year, so I’ve learnt a lot from this thread.

    Like toys19’s solicitors style.

    Chin up.

I like a variety called Prairie Fire. Loads of different colours that the chilis go through and the plants are small. Yield is pretty high, and they tend to be pretty hot. I’m trying these outside this year and they seem to be doing OK.
When we had a conservatory I grew a fair few different types, but some of the plants grow to over 6 ft tall.
Have a look on the Simpsons seeds site for info about different chilli types: Simpsons Seeds
Need to sow the seeds in Jan/early Feb (I use a heated propagator) to get a good start. I found it helps to stress the plants to increase the heat of the chillis. Once chilis have set let the plant wilt before watering. Let them get hot in the day, and cool at night.
Use tomorite once a week to feed them.

    Very good courses on creativeLive[/url]
If you watch them live they are free, but site is funded by people paying to have downloads of the courses.
You have to grit your teeth a bit with one or two of the tutors, but good advice shared by real, successful photos.
I have bought a few courses myself, and it is quite fun to interact in the live streaming.

Lifeproof here too. I have one of the originals and it is still holding up well.
I have a fair few underwater pics too. Should see the poolside reactions.
Just buy from Lifeproof. Great customer support, and guaranteed to be genuine.

Singletrack School advertise here and run courses in Easingwold just north of York.
Do the Dales Bike Centre run any courses?

I find that turning the tables works very well.
Many years ago I was washing the car when the gaggle of JWs came up the road, split into pairs and went to each house in the street.
After working out exactly who they were I proceeded to try to convert them to UFO-ology. 45 minutes later, the car was clean and they couldn’t get away fast enough.
The next time they came up the street they definitely avoided our house. I was so tempted to wash the car again. 😈

Feel for you FI, but try to look on this as an opportunity.
I went down the Jobseekers route initially (PITA), but found a temping agency in the area who had me in an admittedly not very mentally stimulating job the next day.
Best thing I could have done. I earned more each week than JS allowance, met loads of people on the placement and kept me going. I set aside time on each evening for job applications.
It also gave me time to think about what I really wanted to do. I ended up knocking on companies doors, and after a fair few knockbacks came up lucky. I ended up working for the guy that gave me a break for 10 years at a couple of companies.
One set of doors closes, but there are loads of others to go through. You need to think positively about yourself to make others believe it too.
    Enjoy your ride.

Their customer service was pretty good for me. They sent out replacement clips for free after my 6yo daughter managed to remove her blind and send the clips flying into the countryside. 🙄

My shades came from Palm Automotive too. I think they are the same company as van shades from memory.
On a Passat Estate the rear passenger shades have 2 clips at the top of the window, the rear luggage space shades are held in under tension and the rear window shades are held in with one clip on either side. I have never found the shades to move unless I needed to remove them.
For ~£100 great purchase, and will buy more when I eventually change car.

    +1 for vanshades here too.
Added benefit is you can take them out in winter to see out of the rear window better when reversing.

I’m on Plusnet too, and the service is much better than BT. BB is more reliable too. Can actually stream netfix reliably.
Makes no sense as PlusNet is owned by BT and uses BT’s kit.

AND it’s a Yorkshire grown company. Best County in the world and all that….. 😛

On iTunesU there are a couple of courses from Stanford University.
    Programming Methodology
iOS Programming (name may have changed)

The first teaches programming principles, using Java, and is very well taught IME. I bought the course book from an ebay seller in China.

The second is firmly aimed at iOS and using XCode which is the programming IDE for Macs/iPhones/iPads. Just need a Mac to run XCode which comes free with MacOSX. To release on the Apple App store you will need an Apple developer account ~£99 per year if I remember correctly.

I’m sure there will be an equivalent course for Android.

    Enjoy.

We found that if you ring VM and get through to the call centre in India then just hang up and keep trying until a Newcastle accent comes on the line. Every problem fixed by UK techs in mins, foreign systems were always down, or the techs were useless and only worked off scripts.
We had 40MB and it was always 40MB, even at high load times.
If I could get it here I would. It’s so hard using 8MB max after being spoilt.

Avon Skin-So-Soft is what the SAS use (allegedly). Never had a bite while wearing it. No nasty chemicals, and smell is minimal.
If I forget to put it on, consider me bug lunch.
