First attempt at a solo here. Riding a 12hr nearly broke me, so this should be interesting…

I don’t use them on all my wheels, but on some rims the lockring kept coming loose, and the o-rings stopped that from happening.

Yep. Shimano M088 shoe and XT trail pedal. The rubber sole moves against the plate that’s intended to offer some extra support and squeaks enough to slowly drive me mad.

My M540 and DX spds are nice & quiet with the same shoe.

It’s this giant one, from Talbot Frameworks. Paint is a 2k candy fade, which Matt seems very fond of doing on his bikes 🙂

    Thanks for the photos, @Muke

    Hmm, focused or knackered….

^ As above, BBC forecast looks ok, and Dark Sky shows some light rain on Friday and Saturday, but dry on Sunday.

This will obviously change for the worse, the moment anybody fits semi-slick tyres….

12 hour solo here too. First attempt at something like this ( despite being labelled a vet ), so you may have some competition for last place 🙂

As a 6’7″, long in the torso chap, I’m really liking the look of that Bird Aeris…

I’d had similar feelings recently, but having read your age, I’ve decided to build myself one of these instead 😉

    FFS! Sorry I asked now.

    New STW motto? 😉

19mm tubulars are your only hope in conditions that extreme.

In typical STW style, I have a spare 31.6 Thudbuster LT I was planning to sell soon, should you be interested* 🙂

Cutting cable outer to length with the inner still inside it…

This. Paid loads of attention to getting my Rohloff cables the right way round and then ‘snip’..

    What’s wrong with this picture?

    Only one hip flask 😉

Ton, that top picture I posted is how it looks on an 80mm wide rim.

    From here http://www.classic-cycle.de/en/Tires-Tubes-Parts/Tire-Maxxis-Grifter-28-29-x-2-50.html

If it helps, on my MTX33s the Grifters measure 64mm wide, so a proper 2.5″.

Those images were the examples I could think of on wider rims. I’ve got mine on MTX33s and they dwarf the rims.

I run them around 30-35 psi and they roll & grip nicely. Certainly better than the Halo Twin Rails they replaced 🙂

Beware, it’s getting weird out there

Cheers for the link, cb! Just ordered a Race MK11, to replace my old Light & Motion HID setup 🙂

    heavy

Certainly overpriced, niche and relying on a certain amount of nostalgia to make any sales, but if it’s OX Platinum tubing, it’s hardly going to be a boat-anchor* 🙂

*I realise you’re probably comparing it to carbon.

I’ve got both Spykes and BB7s. The Spykes are easier to set up and are a lot quieter in the wet. The original resin pads don’t last long, but they’re easy enough to swap for something better when they wear out.

can anyone recommend a grease gun?

I’ve been using the Dualco grease gun for the past couple of years and much prefer it to the one that screwed onto a grease tube.

At least the saddle isn’t pushed right forward 😉

There’s not a huge difference in stack & reach measurements between the two tbh. You might just fit one better than the other. Main difference I’d say is in the slightly more relaxed angles and longer wheelbase of the Synapse.

Best bet is to find a local dealer and go sit on both. Or at least compare geometry chart to your current bike

    This really ^

    To help simplify things:

    Supersix = Racer fit

    Synapse = Mamil fit

Sadly, I know which one I am, but what are you 😀

Did your friend observe you riding the bike, or does he just think the bike ‘looks’ wrong? It’s entirely possible that you might not have the ideal sized frame, but you’ve actually set it up ok for you.

The way this person is climbing up Parkin gives a good impression of steepness , which seems completely absent in the videos.

The Straggler has a comparatively long top tube for a bike sold with drop bars, so should be ok. I use mine as a drop-barred bike, but would happily ride it with flats/risers with only a 10mm increase in stem length.

Since we’re pretty much just posting pics of our own

If you can imagine away the rack and crud-guards then SS, rigid + internal frame & fork routing keep this quite clean looking.
