I just whizzed the threaded bit that pops out through the lower straight off. Oops. Took the lowers off and realised it is a separate component. Phew. Yours may be different as they are FIT but I’d hope they are still using a similar removable component.
It’s called a base valve and looks like this although this is exploded.

Yes but you do more miles on a 29er as they don’t go around corners and have to run very wide. I normally cover at least 10 miles more than my mate on his 26er on the 3 mile commute to the circus.

Don’t worry, I’ve done the same before. The threaded bit unscrews from the damper unit and is available from mojo and the like for about £25. I did mine with an air ratchet. Turned the torque nob just past the #1 to the #9. Doh.

They are shocking, Waited nearly three weeks for a shifter, after chasing it up twice, the third call revealed they had cocked up and not even placed the order. A week later the shifter arrived with the thumb shift lever snapped off and super glued back on. I was gob smacked. On the fourth call they said oh sorry, send it back but we have no more in stock and they wouldn’t be ordering any for two weeks. The first time I used them I placed an order and three days later I get an email saying they were out of stock. Utterly useless!

Yes, at the mo I really can’t be arsed to do any fitness riding. If its a mess about in the woods with the lads at the weekend, I’m well up for it but as regards night rides and xc jollys up the local hill. Meh.
