I think it was about 20 years ago I last decended the track on Black Hill, wasn't really worth the effort and we got a bollocking from the farmer at the bottom.
I have ridden Borestane and Cauldstane slap many times and explored a lot of the Western Pentlands when I lived in West Linton.
Also rode a lot in the cloich forest area.
Have just bought a CX bike so looking forward to investigating some old spots.
There looks like a new trail up on the hills southeast of Gladhouse reservoir, I was up there about 2 years ago, and the landowner wasn't terribly pleased, has anyone ridden up there recently?

I have ran a 5 year old Inbred with 120mm Bombers, and I currently run a Tinbred with 115mm Rebas, I ride XC but prefer a slightly slacker head angle.

I switched to 1×9 about 6 months ago, I have only missed the granny ring on a couple of super steep climbs, and once when I bonked on a big ride. I use a 32T On-one Stainless Ring with a Jump Stop and a lightweight bash guard, never once had my chain come off when riding.
Its sad I know, but I weighed all the bits that came off and all the bits that went back on, and I saved 400g.
I am going to convert my other MTB when I pick up some cheap bits.

Both of mine learnt using a like-a-bike, it’s a bit of a battle at first but if you persevere they soon get the hang of it. My girl could go the likeabike at about 3yrs and was pedalling by 4yrs, my boy could go the likeabike at 2yrs and is now pedalling at 3yrs, although he still prefers his likeabike.

Al, your Inbred 456 is exactly what I am looking to build, are there any problems with your toes catching on the front wheel?

Also are they road discs you are running? I assume that if I use STI’s I would have to use the road specific calipers as the brake levers don’t pull enough cable? or I could use Travel Agents with normal discs?

Measured my Kaff last night and its Toptube is 2cm shorter than my inbred, but I run a 2cm longer stem on the Kaff, so the handlebar to seatpost distance is the same.

Has anyone used the Genesis Croix de Fer, as it looks like it ticks all the boxes?

VassagoJay I will have to check your photo out later, as the firewall is blocking it.

I have been looking at the Uncle John, and that is a candidate, PX don’t appear to do a disc fork though?
There is also a chance the company I work for will be running the Halfords cycle-to-work sceme this year, but I know last year I couldn’t get a PX through them, and I am not sure what other CX disc bike I could get for under a grand.
On the other hand I fancy building something a bit different, as it will annoy the Colnagarello roadies I got out with.

700c fit with road tyres, but I am wondering how big a cross tyre would fit in there (I don’t own any), also wonder how the bike would feel and handle with the higher centre of gravity?

Does anyone know the links to anything on the old forum that would help?

I agree that some 2x sections would be good to try and get past your mates or the slower riders infront.
Would also like some really steep technical decents, like the section from the furtherst point of the Blue down to deliverance. Has anyone ridden this lately, there are signs up to say that it is closed.

I haven’t tackled the black yet, but do the red with my daughter on the tag along, I just thought being able to unclip the Trailgator would give them a bit more freedom on the decents (I obviously don’t take them anywhere dodgy thats going to cause them to crash!). It’s a good workout, and the kids love it.

It will be used to tow him up hill (Glentress), and then he can ride down himself, I like the idea of being able to clip it out of the way when he is not attached.
How much Mudslinger, would need to be posted?
