Finished building my Troutie 1800 Lumen light last night, and wanted to share some of my experiences.

I found it really hard to solder to the Taskled Driver, the solder pads are tiny and you need a small tip on the soldering iron and a steady hand.
Don’t use too much sealant when you glue/seal the Optics/Lexan, I used far too much and it ended up between the Optic and the Lexan, fortuneately I was quick enough to disassemble and wipe the excess glue off.
Its easy to program the Driver, don’t be put off by the manual, read it several times and then read it again, as long as you can count to 13 it shouldn’t be a problem.

Using it for the first time tonight, it was really impressive when compared to a P7 in the back garden.
I was surprised by how hot the case got, I have set the thermal cutout to 50 degrees C, so hopefully it will be fine.

Many thanks to Troutie for an excellent piece of kit.

Ridden at GT for 20+ years, never come across a Quad or MX bike, although I have been told they do ride there.

Can I inadvertantly set the output current to 6000mA and fry my LEDs?
Printed the manual off, might understand it on the 5th pass.

Rampage are good in the mud but a bit slow on the road.

Also the ‘free’ broadband is not available in all areas, and they will charge you £17.50 per month, I know they keep on phoning me up telling me about the ‘free’ broadband.

    Hi Chris

Got my kit yesterday and started building it, a couple of questions, with the Laura Optics do I glue them to the stars or to the flange at the front of the casing? And is there an idiots guide to programming the driver, I had a look at the Taskled website and was slightly confused. I am only looking for a high, low, off setting.

Mounting the light to my helmet using a Halfords helmet bracket for £4.99, will post some pics up once its finished.

I have a current scandal with the slot dropouts, and its great.
How do you know if you actually have Scandium in your Scandal, as I believe it was only the first batch that contained any?

On-one/Planet X always seem to take longer to get them in than they promise, MTB Carbon Forks and Pro Carbon frame spring to mind.

If you only need 0.1mm off each side are they really worth doing, especially if you are selling it?

Yes because it’s an MOT failure if they have too much corrosion. My XC90 rear disks suffer from this as well – will need to sort something by this autumn’s MOT as they were an advisory last time. Disks only about 3 years old and car does low mileage.

I know rusty brake discs are an MOT failure, but 0.1mm would barely be perceivable by the eye. I have just replaced the pads on my car, and they did have some very slight scoring/piting, but after a few miles the discs look good.

Were they driving a Nissan Micra?
Lived and driven in Scotland all my life, however when I have been Down Sarf with work, I have noticed the drivings a bit more hectic i.e. cars closer together, cutting each other up on the Motorway, leaving less room to overtake etc.

All these posts make me feel better about the 100k A3 TDI that I am getting in a fortnight, mind you its been owned by my brother in law since new and has a full audi service history.
Anyone want to buy an 03 Mini Cooper?

I have tried it in the past, bought a cheapish press from Machine Mart when they had a Vat free day. The Cider was very dry and strong (all the sugar turned to alcohol), I am not a big cider drinker so found it hard to drink.
That reminds me there are still 20 bottles of 2008 Vintage Cider in my garage.

Has anyone tried the Musso forks, they are even better value for money, might build my Tinbred up with rigid forks, drop bars, 700c wheels and disc brakes, for some cross fun.

I find they wash out badly when on the limit (Glentress), I have found Panaracer Rampages to grip better in the mud (although very slow and squishy on the road), I only use Crossmarks in the summer when its dry. I fitted a pair of Weirwolfs last night, so will be interesting to see how they compare.

I would get the thicker bbg bashguard as I used the thinner one and it bashed (i.e bent/squashed) very easily.

I sold a bike last week and the cheapest postage I could find was Parcel Force 48hour at £28 (including £200 insurance compensation), I went through Quidco and got £3 cashback though.

Using a rigid singlespeed 29er through the winter and it is great having zero maintenance, and I wouldn’t have said I am any slower than I was on a geared suspension bike.

Its been a while since I rode it, but I found the directions a bit confusing and ended up missing out some of it. I would give it a go again sometime.

About 10 years ago myself and a couple of mates bought a Peugeot 505 Estate (8 Seater) for going surfing, which affectionately became known as ‘the bus’ or ‘the surf bus’ which is where my username came from.
We still have ‘surf bus’ nights out to this day, although I don’t surf much anymore.

I am 6ft and I have an 18″ Scandal with 100m stem and a 19.5″ Inbred with 80mm stem (both 29ers), and they both feel a good size.

Santa bought me a Gaggia Classic for Xmas, and it has hardly been off, its an excellent piece of kit, and produces the most gorgeous Crema.

I have one question though, when making an Americano, should I pour the Espresso shot into a cup and then top up with hot water, or just put a bigger cup under the outlet and keep filling the cup using the ever weakening Espresso?

Don’t use any shiny bar tape as in the wet your hands slide about (its the brown Charge stuff).

    Quick update on the Pentlands.
Went out this morning to do my usual route up the Pentlands, which would normally take about 2.5hrs.
Snow was pretty deep as to be expected, probably 6-8″ this morning, it was badly rutted in places and there were large patches of ice with snow on top. Had to push from the Beeches to the top of Eastside, decent to the A702 was fun.

It took me 5.75hrs in total, I am shattered this afternoon.

Last night I only got 1.5 hours on a combination of 2 and 4 XPGs, using 4x 18650 3000mAh. I will have to try and do a controlled test, I have a P7 torch that takes a single 18650, I normally get an hour out of it. Will run it with each cell to try and determine which ones are bad. Or does anyone know of a better test?

The conditions on Tuesday night are as follows:-
Singletrack pretty clear until the climb up to Spooky Wood which had some deep snow in places, I had to get off and push a couple of times.
The Spookywood decent was pretty much covered in 4″ deep snow, which was frozen in places and rutted from the tyre tracks, pretty much most of the singletrack after Spookywood was clear (Red route).
The worst bits were the fire roads up to the top of the freeride, they were covered in ice and because it was raining, it made them super slippy.
To conclude its worth going to GT if you don’t have to travel too far.
