IME when you plug the Garmin into the PC with the lead the website opens itself as the ‘old view’ version. You then just click the upload all new data option (or whatever it’s called) as you used to.
Basically, don’t log on and then try to upload – plug it in and let it open itself.

    Peter **** Andre.
Complete and utter waste of skin. Even the thought of him makes my teeth itch. He’d be first in the lion compound at Longleat at feeding time.

Schwalbe Smart Sams. Much more of an MTB tyre than the Land Cruiser, which is a heavy, beefed-up CX tyre really.
I also like the Black Jack, but I’ve only used the 26 x 1.90 version, and only in races where there’s plenty of tarmac between the off-road stuff. Both have a tread pattern that gives a fairly prominent centre ramp for fast rolling on the roads, and both offer plenty of grip on the outer knobs.

Box Hill, if you’re fast, is about 6 minutes. Average plodder does it in 10.

And Box Hill is an iconic climb down there?

Blimey, up here in Yorkshire that’d be known as a speed bump…

Nowt wrong with those tyres at all, they’re brilliant. I happen to work for a Schwalbe wholesaler, so I get to see all their range close-up. I’ve done loads of races on a pair of 26 x 1.90 Black Jacks cos the tread pattern gives a great, fast-rolling centre ramp, but there’s plenty of grip from the outer knobbles when required. At £7.00 a tyre you’ve only paid a few pence over Trade price too. Bargain.

Next pair I get will be an oversize pair of those window cleaner’s gloves, so I can put a liner glove underneath. Everything else I’ve ever tried has filled with water after half an hour or so.
Why manufacturers don’t make gloves with an elasticated/neoprene cuff that doesn’t allow water to run directly down the wrist into the glove completely baffles me. And the same for SealSkinz socks too. Why do they have a wicking cuff that draws water straight inside? Bloody stupid.

I tend to stick a CD on in the car and leave it in until I get a bit bored of it. It can be in there for weeks sometimes, then I’ll swap it or buy something else that gets the same treatment.
I’m currently on a Salvation compilation that I bought the other week in Whitby, when they were supporting Fields of the Nephilim.

I’ve been using the ‘ctxc’ training videos that are free on YouTube. The music is definitely not to my taste at all, but to me that’s not really the point. The tunes are what they are, which is broadly typical of what I’d expect in a commercial gym setting for hi-energy cardio type stuff. However, because the different tunes are mixed to accompany the intervals and recovery periods, they suit the workout better than me turning off the volume and just listening to a Dead Kennedys CD (or whatever else takes my fancy at the time). There’s no real fun to be had whilst training on a turbo, so I just accept the music/videos for what they are.

How does your mate Luca feel about your offer? Apparently he was fuming when he first contacted you about a pic of him advertising a rival business to his own? £200 doesn’t sound much in order to douse the flames of righteous indignation…

I got stung whilst riding earlier this year. I was on a solo 100 and giving it the full beans on the old A1 on my way back from Selby when the little bastard got stuck behind my bloody glasses. I couldn’t react quick enough as I was pulling my tripe out to keep the average speed up and doing about 30mph at the time, and it stung me right between the eyebrows, just as I thought I’d freed it.
The pain subsided after about half an hour (I didn’t bother stopping) and, to be fair, I hit a stiff headwind as I turned onto the Pontefract road, so it was the state of my legs and general exhaustion that were causing me more grief the closer to home I got.
I never bothered doing owt about it when I got in as the discomfort had virtually gone – but the area around the sting swelled up quite markedly overnite, and the pain came back too, so I spent a week on Piriton tablets.

I never understood the hatred, is it because you know all his songs and it makes you feel old?

No – it’s because the noise he makes sounds really, really shit.

    …if it’d rained it would’ve been grim.

I said the exact same thing myself. Mind you, I was on the finish line at 10.15 this morning, so it’s been a long old day.

What a fantastic day on the hill at Jackson Bridge.
I spent the day catching all the riders as they came through the finish line in their varied states of utterly wastedness! Big respect to all who competed on what is as true a test of climbing ability as you’ll find.

Known locally as the Goat Track. It very nearly claimed one of the forum’s Big Hitters, when Cynic-Al high-sided himself down the steepest gully just round the corner in the original pic. He was a lucky boy to walk away unharmed from that tumble.

72 lumpy miles on the road bike, with 7,000ft of climbing. Tough first ride back on the Sunday Club Run for a few weeks. Got the layering just right too, so no cook/freeze/repeat, which was nice.

Parts of that had me feeling physically sick, others squirming uncomfortably in my seat. Can’t remember a TV drama ever having that kind of effect on me before.
    Outstanding viewing.

Those two tache blokes are arseholes – was anyone like that in 1990? Maybe…

Retford was full of them. Usually wearing those two-button leather jackets with thin lapels and a slim leather tie. The land that time forgot. There was always friction when we went to see a band at the Porterhouse.

A Piriton a day (‘home’ brands are available) keeps the itching away!
I suffered from this for a few years, especially after I had contact with water. Doctor ‘diagnosed’ aquagenic urticaria – itching caused by water contact! Took a Piriton a day for years until I ran out one day, then found I didn’t itch anymore. Strange but true.

That bugger’s on a lot of top 10s round my way too (Golcar/Colne Valley), but I only take an interest in my stats from my ride and don’t choose routes specifically to go KOM hunting. He’s generally somewhere high-up on the leaderboard if I bag a top 10 though.

For a small village on the outskirts of Huddersfield, we have not one, but TWO museums!
The first one is a group of converted weavers cottages and is dedicated to the area’s woollen industry: Colne Valley Museum[/url]
The other is a private place that an enthusiastic local has put together to display his collection of militaria. There doesn’t appear to be a website, but here’s a link to an article in the local paper: LINK

Me and the (now ex) missus visited Stonehenge a few years ago. Well, we visited the car park near Stonehenge, saw the entry price and drove back to Avebury. We also walked up Silbury Hill and spent some time in and around West Kennet Long Barrow. Which were all fee free.
Ripping folk off with exorbitant entry fees shouldn’t be the National Trust’s remit – sadly, in my (limited) experience, it appears to be. See also Whitby Abbey and Urquhart Castle for more examples.

    Breakfast around 8.00am
    Dinner around 1.30pm
Tea anywhere between 6.30pm and 1.30am, depending on what I’m doing after work and how easily I’m distracted.

Baker Street, Living on a Prayer or Moondance. Much as I despise the other two (and I *really* do), I reckon **** Moondance edges the hollow victory.
If I’m at work and any of the above come on the radio then I start to get genuinely angry. It’s only a matter of time before one of those arsehole DJs on Radio 2 manages to play all three back to back – at which point they’ll be talking about me and the despicable atrocity that I’ve committed on the evening news.

A hard won 7th at Tameside on Tuesday night has seen me reach the dizzy heights of 3rd Cat! This unexpected occurrence has far exceeded my wildest dreams, having been lapped-out in my first race. However my 4 subsequent attempts have seen me in the points each time (9th, 6th, 6th & 7th), so after only 5 races I’m now in proper arse-kicking territory next season. I’m still undecided as to whether this situation is a good thing or not…

Firstly, get yourself some nuun tablets. They’ll help prevent/stave off cramp the next time.
Secondly, if it were me, I’d just stay hydrated and crack on as normal. You’ll soon spin the stiffness out. If you’ve a turbo trainer, get on that for 20 mins.

Don’t forget there are cheaper alternatives to Shimano/Sram cassettes out there. Check out the Sunrace range, which are all Shimano compatible. I use their cassettes, chains and chainrings and have had no issues whatsoever. The higher spec ones come in a grey/black box under the ‘Driven’ name.

Enjoyed it again last night. Different dynamic within the race this week, with plenty lads having a dig off the front to test the water a little, with no one committing to a proper attack. Again Karl was mainly up front doing his graft and staying out of bother. This week I was much more aware of my positioning and made a greater effort to move forward at any opportunity. With 2 to go a rider went for it in the home straight and, even though it was a bit early for me, I committed and went with him. We got a gap and just as I was shouting him to dig in, he sat up. Afterwards he said he’d glanced round and thought I was heading the bunch and if he’d known we were away he’d have gone with it. This left me in front, so I just got my head down and went for it. On the final bends I was sat in 6th and managed to stay there to the finish. So that’s two 6th places on the trot and a total of 9 points now. Happy with how things are progressing.
Managed a chat with Karl beforehand (congrats on both the result and your 3rd Cat licence) and also got to meet Crazy Legs afterwards too. All in all another great evening.

Back at Tameside for another stab at the 4th cat race tomorrow. Anyone else there for the 2/3/4 or 4th only?

    crazy-legs – Member

Probably do the 2/3/4 again. Weather permitting – I refuse to race in the rain!

I’m in again. As things stand I’ll be the only HDR rider present, so it shouldn’t be too hard to work me out this week Crazy Legs :-)

Hopefully I’ll manage to say hello to you too this week Karl.
