Screw it back in, but not all the way – leave a small gap. Get busy with the plastic hammer. If it moves, unscrew a bit more and repeat. Eventually you’ll run out of thread – that’s when you need the big, flat-bladed screwdriver to finish the job with.

    What about one of these….

Could be knackered wheel bearings holding it in place? I’ve had the same problem with a Ringle hub on my Z1s. New bearings fitted and it’s back to normal every time. I change the bearings at the first sign of play now – I mean, I wouldn’t be able to get the wheel off if I puncture on a ride otherwise.

Doesn’t help you remove it though. I’ve found that inserting a rod longer than the axle (a long screwdriver) and a few encouraging smites with a plastic hammer have always got the bugger out in the past.

It’s dependably exciting and doesn’t mind me being selfish.

What happened to that other niche little American frame that you used to throw your leg over…?

Being a Northerner, I naturally assumed that his front garden was the entire South East of England.

In which case, he was only telling us what we already know.

Jeez, you’re a couple of big buggers. That 23″ farmers gate ought to be easy to spot with some little scrote sat atop.

    And apologies for the delay.

Not the dalay. Whatever that is :mong:

What amount do people consider to be a ‘reasonable’ donation then?

I rode Penmachno once, around 3 years ago. I saw the box but, for a variety of reasons that I considered valid at the time, didn’t donate. I’d more than likely stick some cash in now as my circumstances have changed, although I know plenty who wouldn’t.

I personally consider £7.00 for vehicular access to Dalby to be excessive, but do pay if I visit. I know others that deliberately park in the village down the road and ride to Dalby, purely to avoid paying.

One thing that did affect where I spend my money now was a brief conversation I had with a couple of locals near the trailhead at Gwydyr. I mentioned driving into ByC for some food and was asked why not go to Llanrwst(sp?) instead? Having thought more about it, next time I will.

Results will be a bit delayed this year as I’m still busy with end of semester marking. I’ll put up an announcement when they’re done. Sorry for the inconvenience, bl00dy students eh….

Speaking as “the sadistic barsteward”, I reckon we’ve managed to make the best of the limited legal riding in the area.

As for the £18.00 ‘on the day’ entry fee – you could always get a £3.00 discount and pre-book. This makes life so much easier for the organisers and stops you worrying over whether there’ll be enough places left…

Just for the record though, for the entry fee you will get the following: A fully way-marked and marshalled 30 mile bike ride over challenging terrain; 4 refreshment stops en-route, each supplying SIS sports drinks, bananas, juice and biscuits; a support vehicle in case of mis-hap; a tee shirt; a certificate of achievement with your finish time; the usual post-event refreshments at the finish; and a ‘goody bag’ containing a SIS Go bar, gel and drink sachet, worth around £3.50 or so at RRP. Can anyone really say that we don’t offer value for money?

Compare that to the £50.00 or so to do MM or SITS etc – which are huge commercial operations generating large profits.

We do the event because we enjoy it, but it is primarily a fund-raiser for local causes.

The funds raised are split equally between the local scouts and Leymoor Cricket Club – both of which are helping to keep people active and off the streets.

Sorry if this sounds like I’m ranting mildly, that’s not the intention. I’m just trying to be transparent with the facts as I’d hate anyone to be mislead at all. Also, I’ll be the big ugly bugger that starts you all off, so if anyone would like to speak to me at all then please come and say hello.

IME the 661 ones (various models – mate owns a bike shop) tended to disintegrate rather quickly (brand new pair fell off my hands in tatters within a week in Whistler). Got a couple of pairs of Dakine ones atm (1 xc, 1 DH Defenders). More durable, but still prone to tearing around the cuffs, and the carbon palm guards on the Defenders both cracked on their first impact so I cut them off in the end.

    Bumped for the indecisive.

    Or was it?

    TheSanityAssassin

When I went there a couple of years ago I came off the trail on the first corner of the first run due in no small part to the tyres not being up to the job.

I got down the hill and went straight to one of the closest shops and started browsing the tyre rack. After 10 minutes or so of deliberating (the tyres were priced between $60 & $85 each) I asked the guy in the shop for a recommendation:

Maxxis Minion 2.5 TripleC front and Maxxis High Roller TripleC rear. They cost me $85 each and I then spent another $50 on good quality DH tubes and the taxes on top. One corner and I’m $220 down….

However, they are the single most impressive ‘component’ I’ve ever bought for a bike. The difference was astonishing – those buggers never stepped out once the entire fortnight and gripped like 5hit to a blanket. That investment ‘made’ my entire trip and I rode the park for a fortnight on my hardtail.

    haha…. you got owned.

@sanity assassin…. you don’t have to be big to get angry. throw your bike at them or kick him hard in the knees and ride off….

My comment was suggesting that if the OP was built like a brick 5hithouse then the assault is less likely to have taken place. The cowardly bastid that pushed him would have merely walked past and wished he had the b0ll0cks to assault someone his own size.

They look remarkably similar to your usual ‘oils on canvas’ and ‘watercolours’ though Tony. Mebbes you’ve wasted your monies on an actual camera…

Whatever the rights and wrongs of your alleged ‘trespass’, you were assaulted.

I’m afraid to say that in similar circumstances I’d have lamped the ignorant bastid.

Perhaps if you’re not 6’2″ and of suitably imposing stature then it quite possibly wouldn’t have happened in the first place though. Bullies don’t usually pick on bigger blokes.

Assasin, i got pulled over and the hippy beaters (sorry police) said that if im caught agian without a new card licence i would get a £400 fine.
I also tried to rent a van and they would not accept a paper licence.

    Interesting…

I hired a box van 18 months ago and there were no problems. Is there something online that states the official position on this, as I haven’t heard anything to say it’s compulsory now?

the Chameleons, three great albums and zippo recognition.
Check out also the newly reformed Weta.
Hoodoo gurus, the clouds and the black sea, all quality oz stuff.

I take it that you’re not including The Fan and the Bellows in the 3 great albums bit? Burgess and Lever also formed The Sun and the Moon following the Chameleons demise, and they brought out an interesting eponymously titled album.

Rather coincidentally, I’m sat here converting my Chameleons vinyl collection into MP3’s as I sit and browse the forum.

Just buy her a rabbit instead, then you both will be free to ride as far as you like for as long as you like. Without her getting a sore knee/bum/hand/neck/foot and you getting a sore ear!

Are you sure she still won’t get a sore bum….? 8)

Are entries transferable if one of my mates wants it?

No probs. Just email me at cvmbc at fsmail dot net and I’ll do the necessary for you.

CAN,T WAIT.i got my route today & it looks like there are still quite a lot of road sections but no where near as much as last year.

the gauntlet has been laid the carbon has been preped & the rider is eager .

last year was a a very hot day & my time suffered .
we did dalby in 2hrs 35 the other week & yes its shorter but im hopeing for under 3 hours given the fact there are a few road sections to make up time.

That’s a strange observation – the route is exactly the same as 2008…
