Woodbine? He was probably counting his limbs after just paying the bill in there.

Woody’s got it – the Ronde van Calderdale really is a brutal ride. It might be the new kid on the block, but it’s already the Daddy!

Here’s a novel approach – how about not ripping folk off? Some local woman’s wee apparatus is already charging £125 a night camping (min. 2 night booking). I’m local and I’ll be up the Moss, regardless of whether someone’s going to try and cordon it all off or not. And so will plenty of other locals. And no doubt a shed load more folk from a little further afield too. It’s an event for the people, everybody, not just the select few with pot loads of cash to throw around.

Seems to me that being a ‘sponging woman’s wee thing’ trumps ‘disabled’ in the Should I/Shouldn’t I Eviction Game, enabling the honest, hardworking landlord to kick the toerag out with a clear conscience.

His father lives round the corner, so him and his equally culpable 20yo son won’t have far to shift their stuff.

Listened to Shane Warne on talkSHITE yesterday and to my mind he spoke a lot of sense. I reckon it’s going to be very tight this time, but not the 2-1 Aussie victory that he predicted. I’m going for a drawn series, with us bringing home the urn again and the Convicts crying in their Castlemaine XXXX.

Whilst these two argue amongst themselves, get yourself online and order some Nuun tablets. Use these in your water instead of the Zero stuff and wave goodbye to cramp. It really is that simple, these things are a bloody miracle cure as far as I’m (and many others) are concerned.

Bloody ‘trick or treat’ never existed when I were a lad. Well, not in 1970s Huddersfield it didn’t anyway. We just hollowed out a turnip, cut a basic face shape in it and then stuck a candle inside. Probably one left over from the power cuts. After we got bored in half an hour or so, we’d just go to the bonfire and make a camp fire to cook some jacket spuds in.

Mischief Night (that’s the official Mischief Night on Nov 4th, by the way) was much more betterer. It was still only harmless pranks though, not an excuse for wanton vandalism and extorting money with menaces.

How about fitting a suitably sized Tri-bag at the top tube/headset area and carrying your camera in that?

Lugano is the entry level, Ultremo is a race tyre. If you’re going Schwalbe then the Durano Plus is the way to go. They’re bullet proof.

    There’s a few I SHOULD avoid

I like the chat on here, I’ve been into bikes/trade enough to have seen most of the conversations before and not to be interested in “this year’s new amazing new products”. However there is some great bike (and other) knowledge on here.

blimey, I’ve got a few whose threads I never open

How do I get on that list?

Optimistic assumption that you’re not, Al.

Do yourself a favour and head over to Dalby. There’s more than enough there for a huge day out, it has all the facilities you’ll need and you can ride the WC sections like the pros too!! It’ll be around 2.5hrs from Manc, but it’s all major roads to get there (M62/A1M/A64) and easy enough to find.

I know of one online/ebay bike bits retailer that has had several parcels containing spare CO2 cartridges confiscated and destroyed recently. ‘Not amused’ doesn’t even scratch the surface….

They seem to be selling that Limited Edition ‘Continental Maxxis Aspen’ version too – so you’d best grab a pair before the -9% discount offer ends…

I genuinely think that in most cases passing a moving cyclist doesn’t actually register as an overtaking manoeuvre to motorists. Subconsciously they’re merely driving past in the same way they drive past another parked vehicle. That, to me, is where most of the daft stuff comes from – they’ve largely ‘zoned out’ and haven’t realised what they’re actually doing. It’s only when confronted by a group riding two-abreast (hopefully in good order) that the overtaking aspect registers. I know this is a generalisation and it’s obviously not true in all instances, but that’s the way things appear to me.

I’m also looking at some overshoes for the road bike, but I use mtb spuds. Do I therefore need mtb/spud-specific ones, or are they all the same fit?
    Also, any recommendations too please?

I’ve gone for a nice pair of Mavic Open Pros on Hope Pro3s this year.
Mind you, I’m in Yorkshire and the roads are worse than the bloody bridleways in a lot of places!

Also, I’m the same size as you, OP, so you’ll be wanting XL.

Regular night rides here with the Huddersfield Star Wheelers.
Tuesdays are 25-30 miles, with a choice of 3 different-paced groups.
Thursdays are training rides, which is either one of a couple of different 30 mile loops, or a few circuits depending on group preference that evening.
Once it’s dark at 5.00pm, then it doesn’t make a lot of difference what time you ride in the evening, apart from traffic volume. We’ve plenty of options to head out into the hills round here.

Got the call from one of his riding companions this afternoon. She was first on the scene, is a Nurse Practitioner, and it was already too late when she got to him. The deceased was a very experienced rider and a lovely bloke. We had many a close battle in the local events. I’m gutted by the news.
    RIP mate.

Pennine X – Superb, it was too, one of my best rides in this country – ever. The people organising the event are just so nice, you want to keep going back just to see them again. Superb course in the dry, a bit tricky last year in the wet.

    This.

A monumental effort in that heat got me a big PB and the 8th fastest time. So despite waking up with cramp in both feet and sore calves this morning, I’m pretty chuffed.

    Rim brakes?
    Disc brakes?
Different tyres on the different wheels, or same tyres on the different wheels?
