The question remains, how exactly do you get away with 115 bikes which are presumably all in large boxes?

115 bikes, that’s what.. over £100k at retail most likely? Ouch. Some rapped knuckles around Trek MK I should think.

Video looks amazing.. Track looks above my pay grade

Any one ridden it yet? How does it compare to the other tracks?

Planning on going next weekend so hopefully check it out then 🙂

So for the uninitiated; do you go up and come down both on the same route?

Cwmcarn Twrch for me, 1 lap only most likely but hopefully session the freeride section a few times.

Just undo the 20mm end caps, if they don’t come off by hand find something thin but rigid that fits into the 2 slots in the adapter so you can get some leverage

    theroadwarrior

    ^ this.

Choose the ones you can afford, fit, go ride, forget

    Why? 2 reasons;

    1. It coats the stanchion with a thin lubricating layer which helps repel dirt and dirt that isn’t stuck to the stanchions can’t end up in the fork internals

    2. When you use it and cycle the fork it brings up dirt already on/in the wiper seal which again keeps the inside of the fork clean between services

I use it. It’s very effective; brings up dirt from the seals and gives the fork a slightly plusher feel for a while. Also keeps the seals nice and supple.

However I wish it came as a dropper bottle rather than a spray; even being really careful I’ve managed to contaminate my front pads badly enough that they needed replacing.

All very well recommending a quick link in the chain to allow removal and cleaning (i used to do it) but for those of us on 10speed sram or shimano systems afaik there isn’t a quick link that isn’t 1-shot

The park tools one is amazing! (caviat; always cleaned the chain manually before, so no experience of other brands)

It’s super easy to use, takes all of 30 seconds to get the chain so clean it looks new.

Only trouble is the degreaser for it is expensive and I’ve yet to find a substitute that works as well. I’ve just replaced the brushes that were about a year old; this needed doing, the bristles bend so after a while its not as effective

They look nice, my friend is thinking of swapping to one from a 100mm anthem to do more uplift days etc. I find the spec of specialized bikes a little strange but if it works for you then no worries. Also the Enduro to consider at 10mm more travel (that would be the bike id have, but again I wouldn’t spec it the way the BigS do)

The problem with ditching the tri align washers is the caliper will no longer be in the correct place. I guess you could make up some little spacers to give you the correct spacing..

I wonder if you used an avid caliper but a shimano adapter and no tri-align washers if everything would mount up? ( that is assuming you had a shimano adapter for the size of disc you were using)

In theory they make fitting somehow easier but in practice they make it almost impossible.. Mechanically they’re not a great solution either.

Manual is for all sorts of mavic wheels iirc. Pretty useless for crossmax wheels though!!

As above; no rim strips needed.

Rode it last wend with my riding buddy who’d not been before; I was raving how great it was so he came to see what all the fuss was about. We were both a little wide eyed after the first very slippery run… But we relaxed into it and had a great day. As said the top half of dh3 is pretty grippy and root free so I quite enjoyed sessioning that and building up the speed. First time riding the 4x which was fun although I’m not good enough/confident enough to clear all te jumps 🙁

Really want to try the black run but I think I’ll wait till drier weather as its proper steep compared to dh3!!

What’s the word on surface2air; is it going to be as steep as the black or more relaxed?

Garmin touchscreens are resistive so work with gloves. (certainly on the edge, I’d be surprised if their other units were different)

It is lovely.. But I wouldn’t want to wire 3keuro to Germany and then wait around for 4 months.. In fact scratch that, I COULDN’T wait that long!!

Running 2×10 with a bash and lower roller (mech at the top obviously)

Wasnt sure what it would be like as I’ve not tried this setup before. Very impressed after the first proper ride; took the bike up to Aston hill where I always used to drop the chain repeatedly on my old triple setup and didn’t drop it once.

    Define “inappropriate

I would say a disco 3 was one of the Least inappropriate bike wagons you can get due to its excellent ability to transport a number of bikes easily and first class offroading ability means you’ll always make it to the trail head

    😀

What’s the deal with ammonia in the stans then? I’ve used stans without issue but have heard that its ‘bad’ because it has ammonia.. Not sure if this is just the marketing of the guys selling the other stuff though.

Good to hear, I have one of these in my Canyon. I’ve not had a look in it yet, but was assuming it wasn’t up to much.

It’s kinda annoying I find, I mean it’s not like I don’t understand why they do it.. as has been said it’s ‘hidden’ and most bike buyers probably wont ride it enough to knacker the bearings anyway- it’ll just sit in the shed.

What’s annoying though is with modern headsets it’s not a simple task of determining what is needed unless you buy an identical replacement POS one. Even when I phoned Hope about a replacement headset for my old trek E2 tapered steerer they said they thought they had the correct one but to be sure I needed to take it out and measure the tube diameters.

Big-up Cotic for offering upgraded headsets with their bikes for people who care about this stuff

I tried and failed to inflate a non tubeless ready NN. Gave up, got a tubeless ready one and it goes up with no sealant and a regular track pump.

How exactly is it set up for rider weight? (serious question)

Strange as the bikemagic review suggests they’re an average size 2.2

It’s ok on the climbs, being held back a little by the tyres I have on there atm. The top tube isn’t too short which means it doesn’t feel as cramped as it might on the climbs. Good that you can drop the fork and raise the dropper, certainly helps

I wouldn’t worry about the brakes as you’ll likely end up swapping them anyhow. The strive seems capable and is my do everything bike. If I did less uplift stuff and more xc then the nerve is lighter to lug around, although dont forget its easy to save a pound by simply swapping tyres for different sorts of ride (just a bit of a faff!)

Tbf for that fork you’re probably better off keeping an eye on the classified and buying a used one. I would think the cost of new lowers would be prohibitive. That way you can still eBay your existing forks to make back some cash, someone will still have them even with a stripped thread.

Cheers for that, just ordered the Carbon havoc bar I’ve been lusting over with 20% off.

I have the alp-x so jacket and use it more for road riding than mtb. It’s really light and not too warm which for me makes it great on the bike. It really cuts the wind down

I was in the market for a spicy but the 2012 were all sold out and were really expensive for the spec. The 2013 bikes are better speced but are more expensive again. I’m sure they’re lovely but with the direct sales companies charging what they do you really have to want one.

Some nice improvements on the strive esx 9 bike; shimano gears, carbon bits and reverb stealth. Wonder how they’ve routed the hose and if I could do the same on my 2012… £500 more tho

Yeah the online sizing guide seems a little weird. It reccommended a small for me but the medium I chose fits perfectly. I’m 5’10”

Check out the canyon strive as well, fox suspension rather than bos so no worries about servicing. Similar price for probably a better spec (IMHO) as the mega pro.

My old singlespeed was silent. How does your chainline look?

When I first got the alfine is was noisy where the chain rubbed against the plastic part next to the sprocket; seems to have quietened down now as it’s probably worn away a bit 😀

OP check your current forks for the oil bath migration issue; search on here and mtbr forums.

There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to use full travel on them if they’re set up correctly.
