Haven’t ridden it for a few years but Blandford (UK bike park?) Was great fun.

Thanks, I’ll give freeborn a call.. i’m down in Horsham at some point (GF’s family are there) so I could pop in. Is it a decent shop?

Sounds like a problem with the rear shock- have you checked the pressure in the shock by using the pump that came with the bike? Depending on your weight it should have maybe 160-250 psi or so in it.
If there’s little or no pressure in there you need to get it rebuilt. How old is the bike, under warranty?

Great place- do it. Make sure you check the gov travel webpage before you go- it will tell you which ‘establishments’ are safe and which aren’t.

Looked at it tonight… I think it’s the rear shock. 2 reasons for this, firstly there’s a slight mist of oil on the case around the air valve. Secondly the drcv shock has a slightly different method of setting it up- the trek instructions detail it but essentially when you screw on the shock pump the air pressure reading increases in 2 discrete jumps as the internal valve is opened. It no longer does this- it just shoots straight up to the final reading. That makes me think perhaps the drcv valve is jammed open or something.

We’ll see what the lbs say. 🙁

    This bit of advice;

Also, wide-ish (700-760mm) handlebars and a short stem (70mm absolute max!) are the order of the week

..kinda makes them sound a little stupid.. bar width and stem length are personal preference- the ideal setup for a male 6’3″ rider is going to be a little different to that of a 5′ female rider.

Interesting, might try swapping the wheel to the one from my other bike too.

I’ll give it a thorough clean and check the frame tonight.

I have just put a set of XTR brakes on in place of the factory fitted avids so I’ll pay attention to the cable routing too.

Damm I hope the frame isnt cracked- i’ve got a session with Tony at UKbikeskills booked next week and i’m off to Afan at the start of next month.

    Thanks for the update.
Really enjoy the final section of the Verderers- will the new blue run go straight on where currently there’s a large berm built into the hill side on the right and the trail drops down to the left?

Its a tricky one, i’ve only been once with someone who knows the place- not sure how i’d get on on my own. The one weakness of Swinley IMO

something I experienced at a flat in Coventry last year- the place had a nice secure (I thought) bike shed, brick construction, solid doors and locked with a combination lock. Was very puzzled to find one day thieves had gotten in a stolen bikes, luckily for me mine was locked too well and they dent get it. Anyway- point of the story is that the ‘secure’ shed was built with an adjoining bins area which was of course unlocked- unfortunately the builders had neglected to install a full height internal wall between the 2 halves. There was enough space remaining for the scrotes to climb onto the bins and get I’m the bike store! Obviously your situation is probably totally different, but the point is my experience made me take a critical look at the storage which I’d previously assumed was pretty secure!

Nice one dirtyrider- just ordered the m988 trail brakes for £222!! Id been holding off because I thought they wernt the trail brake (listing says m985) but like you say once you click through to the listing it states it’s the m988 lever and comes with finned pads. Realising they are the trail brakes and that they’re £50 cheaper than I thought- instant purchase 🙂

Yup, looks like things are even cheaper than before! I’d been holding off buying the xt brakes, partly because I couldnt decide what colour I wanted.

Just picked up a set of xtr m988 trail brakes with finned pads for £222 delivered, bargain!

Anyone done any biking with ‘Pure Mountains’ in the Sierra Nevada? I’m out here at the moment and literally bumped into Jenny and Tim with a group of guys here for the week I think. I’m hoping to get on a half day ride with them at some point this week (can’t get a full days release as i have my other half along who’s not a cyclist)

To the op; sounds like you had some annoying issues on a trip that no doubt cost a fair chunk of change… I know I wouldn’t be happy.

I have exactly the same issue with my elixir 5’s; front sounds fine, rear sounds awful.. Bugs the hell out of me! They are worse after hard use. Will probably sell them in te medium term and fit some shimanos

How does such an interminably prosaic thread like this keep spluttering on?

    For 3 days now…

If I ask something it usually disappears off the front page in less than 5 minutes

…perhaps it’s the language you use?

    😀

So essentially the F-Series has a plain brace and the float has a webbed brace meaning the float is heavier- but I guess a little stiffer.

Even Fox’s tech website seems confused, I have 120mm travel F-Series forks but these aren’t mentioned; just the F-100 or the Float 120.

I’d like to get a guide on changing the oil and cleaning the dust wipers and while I guess it’s the same between floats and f-series it’d be nice to be sure! (I’ve seen the MOJO video, which was helpful)

    Yes definately.

Got back into it this summer after probably 5yrs away from mountain biking- was out in the chilterns yesterday with a friend who’s just got a new cannondale and on friday I did a 16mile jaunt north from my house and got the train back (just) in time to meet the GF to walk to the pub 🙂

Trying to get my other bike (Ancient muddy fox) back together and in a good state to use over the winter so I dont trash my full suss.

Hope everyone who wanted a set has got them- all out now apart from ‘limited availability’ on the silver LH levers.

I am really tempted by these as I’m not too happy with the elixir 5s that came on the fuel. I’m even more tempted by the xtr’s purely from a looks point of view! Which is a shame because Rose dont seem to list the £288/pair deal any more 🙁

So they’re waterproof, stretchy and low odeur… Either theyre telling porkies or they are not jeans at all.

Thanks for the Action sports link; any chance of getting hit with import duty?

I’m sure the 2010 tyre is absolutely fine, i’m tempted to fit it tbh- but I know it’d do my nut in not matching the front 🙂

It is frustrating how many varients are kicking around- good for customer choice, but when they’re not correctly advertised its a bit of a lottery!

UPDATE; Spoke to Merlin, they dont have any 2011 tyres so its a refund. For some reason they have 2011 versions of all the other Schwalbe tyres, just not the NN.

Suggested it might be an idea to list on the page its a 2010 model- he said they would.. but who knows.

I’ll be buying another from next day tyres once the refund comes through.. just need to find another £10 🙂

Arse. Annoyed now, obviously I went with them because of the 15% off- but there is no mention on the page that it’s not the latest spec.

Phone call tomorrow I think, either they can supply the advertised tyre or they’re having this one back.

Well, Oakley have made some money out of this.. i’d not looked at Jawbones before and although I missed out on getting any of the free glasses (Lucky gits) I did just place an order for some custom Jawbones.
Fire irridium and yellow vented lenses.

Got them from sunglassesshop.co.uk rather than the oakley site, not affiliated in any way but FYI they were £166 by using a 10% off voucher. (+an extra 2.5% cashback from quidco).. not free, but better than £205 🙂

The bike radar review said the pads were available with and without the cooling fins and that the cooling fin pads were quite expensive.

Shibboleth, what colour are your lenses?
