Rings aren't matched to pistons unless your refitting the old ones
then you would make sure rings went back on the same pistons.

    I wouldn't worry about balancing – it's a diesel right ? the peak
rpm's aren't really high enough to feel the benefit. (mine's a TDI btw).

Given the fuel pressures and torque figures for diesel cylinder heads
I'd leave it alone (personal choice though !)

I take my road chain off and leave to soak in white spirit

I think the spider is thicker than the triple version – I tried
fitting a 4mm alloy bash ring but standard triple chain ring
bolts were not long enough so back went the "monster" SLX bash
ring ….. the spiders are not listed by part number so can't confirm
this but the double does have the inserts which suggests a
    different part !!!!

v-moda (i have a pair) are rather good for “isolating” the music
from the surrounding sounds, but you can still hear things like
    sirens !

I believe there are some “incompatibilities” but not many. I have
a Hayes Stroker set running on Avid rotors and a SLX set running on
Aztec wavy or Hayes rotors both without any problems.

I used to have triples on my hardtail then got “gifted” a SLX double
with bash. I looked at the “wear” on the 44t and realised that I never
used it ! I now benefit from increased BB clearance – the Maxlight ain’t
exactly high off the deck :-]

@bimbler – 8mm just in case, but lots of grease and correct torque during
installation and mine never came off/undone and could be easily “torn
    down” as well !!

As JoB says get in to the shop and try a few.

I ride a 48cm roadie, but Evans’ sizing table says I should be
on a 54-55cm thing which would be sooooooooooooo long in the top
tube for me I’d need arm extensions to reach the hoods !

I use muc-off all over the bike, including rotors – as long as it’s
well rinsed after I’ve not had any problems. I’d guess Fenwicks would
be about the same …. IPA for when there’s oil etc on the rotor.
