I think the spider is thicker than the triple version – I tried
fitting a 4mm alloy bash ring but standard triple chain ring
bolts were not long enough so back went the "monster" SLX bash
ring ….. the spiders are not listed by part number so can't confirm
this but the double does have the inserts which suggests a
different part !!!!
I believe there are some “incompatibilities” but not many. I have
a Hayes Stroker set running on Avid rotors and a SLX set running on
Aztec wavy or Hayes rotors both without any problems.
Bummer Ant – I know how it feels too. My first ever “real” mtb got
spirited away one night – gits ….. And I’m the “nicer” side of the
river to you, oh wait Southmeads’ just down the road !!!!!
I used to have triples on my hardtail then got “gifted” a SLX double
with bash. I looked at the “wear” on the 44t and realised that I never
used it ! I now benefit from increased BB clearance – the Maxlight ain’t
exactly high off the deck :-]
@bimbler – 8mm just in case, but lots of grease and correct torque during
installation and mine never came off/undone and could be easily “torn
down” as well !!
I ride a 48cm roadie, but Evans’ sizing table says I should be
on a 54-55cm thing which would be sooooooooooooo long in the top
tube for me I’d need arm extensions to reach the hoods !
I use muc-off all over the bike, including rotors – as long as it’s
well rinsed after I’ve not had any problems. I’d guess Fenwicks would
be about the same …. IPA for when there’s oil etc on the rotor.
