I’ve never heard a fellow Scot refer to another using that term. That should be a clue to those who persist in using the term. It’s disrespectful.

Maybe use a few clips to tidy up the cable to the speaker on shelf, and the picture rail looks like it could do with dusting.

Nice looking bike though. Shame On-One have pulled their FB rolling chassis bundle.

This type of news is becoming a little too “normal”. Really sad. 😥

I bought one of these from CR when they had black ones for ~£7. It is small and light. The light has some side visibility too. Adequate for a helmet mounted flashing light (using a velcro helmet torch mount I already had).

Twodogs is right, there was another person killed last night in London:

Seems a day doesn’t pass at the moment without a cyclist getting killed. Very sad. Ride safe everyone.

I’m just about to set up my mini-Vs so can’t speak from experience, but from reading around I’m planning on using these and/or trimming a little off the end of the noodle so that I don’t need to pull so much through to release the brake cable.

Thanks. I’m sold on the idea of having an additional flashing light.

OP – keep hold of the forks and tell him he can have them back when he gets off his ass and picks them up

Nice idea, except if I do that I will end up having to keep/pay for the forks. Like I said in the original post, that is the easy option, but as a matter of principle I am planning on sending them back on Monday.

I’ve been trying to figure out why DHR sent me the forks around 14 days after I cancelled the order, and 9 days after they told my bank they were going to give me a refund. Also curious as to why they sent the forks just before the refund date. All part of their “game” to keep a sale? I don’t know, but I am certain that if I don’t return those forks within 7 days (as per their Terms and Conditions) they will claim that I have accepted the goods and will not issue a refund. On top of that if I do return the forks I’m unsure that they will issue a refund – why should I trust them to do that (on the 11th or 25th November – given that they are only capable of refunds twice a month 🙄 ).

I just don’t get the attitude of DHR. All they had to say was “sorry we don’t have the item in stock, but we can get it from our supplier and you’ll have it in 2-3 weeks”. I’d have been happy with that. Instead thanks to their continuous lies and deceit I’m just another pissed off customer.

I currently have two new carbon cyclocross forks:

– Columbus Tusk Cyclo X Fork (from DHR @£105 [RRP £170])
– Kinesis Crosslight Pure CX Carbon Fork (from CRC @£125 [RRP £140])

Should I just give in to DHR and keep the Columbus fork? CRC will take the Kinesis forks back as they have a great returns policy, although I feel bad about doing that.

Reported as slander … probably not long, however slander is defined as:

1. Law Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person’s reputation.
2. A false and malicious statement or report about someone.

Everything comment I have made about my transaction with Dave Hinde Racing is true and I have records to back all of that up.

I saw your post on another thread bazingaeuan, so i’m guessing your bank fully supported the statements you made too.

Well done bazingaeuan on getting your dosh back. A small victory for all DHR victims to celebrate 😆

Oh and check out this Newspaper Article funny though eh. When I call asking for him he’s never in.

Oh yeah and “Comments are closed on this article”

I saw that article too. He sounds like a good fella 🙄

So, I decided to write to the author Gina Bebbington (gbebbington@guardiangrp.co.uk) to explain that there is another side to this lovely character that they may want to write about as a follow up article.

I also liked the idea of writing to BBCs Watchdog, so will do that now.

Tell DH to collect them themselves after they’ve refunded your cash? If something goes wrong with the forks I’d rather deal with CRC than DH….

That’s a good point. I’d only been thinking about this point in time. Thinks

I can’t comment on the specific bike options suggested by the OP and others, but I am in the process of getting a CX bike too (for similar intentions as the OP).

I couldn’t find the bike I wanted off the peg for <£1K so took the option of specing and building my own. Mostly through careful purchasing of components on sale, cashback deals, selecting the “right” bars, saddle, gear ratios, etc., as well as one eBay purchase (shifters – why are they so expensive) I will soon have the bike I want … a Kinesis T5 with Pure CX carbon fork and 105 througout for <£950.

You may want to consider the self-spec option too? Not always cheeper, but makes sense if you think you will be changing some components in near future. The Planet X XLS is tempting for £1.3K though.

The fluffy side of velcro simple.

I did have a THE branded one a few years ago and it was made out of that material. Worked really well.

I’ve got some old inner tubes in the garage, so I guess I’ll go with that tried and tested (and free) method. Nice to recycle stuff too 😀

Clearly not piemonster as it’s been 12 hours and not one single suggestion for a bike shop that is worse than Dave Hinde. This could take a long time …

Extra mile?????

I’d have been happy if they’d gone the first mile rather than stall me for days with a pack of lies.

Oh, and I don’t think the word “sorry” is in their vocabulary.

As an aside, three other retailers have exceeded my expectations in past few days in terms of delivery and service: CRC, Merlin, and Charlie the Bikemonger.

Why isn’t this a sticky*?

*On every bike forum in the land.

Couldn’t agree more. I am just in the process of finding out the hard way too. I keep thinking, why oh why didn’t I spend more time on the STW forum, so I knew about this unscrupulous retailer …

In my experience, if you’ve not come across Dave Hinde Racing then you can expect:

1) Your money to be taken, but no or slow delivery
2) Very poor customer relations (how do they get any repeat business?)
3) When you phone the number they provide to be told they can’t help you as you need to get in touch with the despatch team, and they are in a different building with no telephone (really!!!). You can only e-mail them.
4) No or limited replies from the despatch team. When they do reply their mails will be full of lies, lack key details and be infrequent. Like when I asked them to confirm they had sent my item and provide the name of the courier and the tracking ID … they only replied with the name of the courier (not much use, except the courier was good enough to tell me that they had nothing for my address despite the retailer telling me that it had been despatched twice)
5) To be told that your order is ready for despatch (more than once), because there is always an excuse why it didn’t go when they said it would. So you’ll have the feeling that they are selling stuff they don’t have and stalling all the time.

I am certain that others have had bigger problems with them. I’m not looking for any sympathy as it is my own stupid fault for buying from them. I’ve had enough of trying to get my goods from them after only a few days and refuse to waste any more of my time talking to them. I do want to keep this post current so that other people know to avoid them.

I got some advice from CAB, and have done the following …

1) Sent them a letter (recorded delivery) cancelling my order and demanding a full refund. The letter quotes relevant sections from the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations.
2) Contacted my credit card company and opened a dispute.
3) Now going to find out how to report them to trading standards.

One way or another I WILL get my money back from these scumbags. I don’t care how long it takes.

My first time at the 3 Peaks, but only as a marshal on PYG. Very impressed by the whole event, and full credit to everyone who got round the course. Definitely planning on riding next year.

I am a little perplexed by SOME of the people there to provide support to THEIR rider. Having a spare bike, wheels, or food & drink at strategic points must be helpful, but I saw several support people getting in the way. Like the guy with 2 wheels strapped to his back riding his MTB up (and then down) PYG in between the race competitors – one of the competitors was pretty pissed off and pushed him off the track. It must be hard enough to ride a CX bike on that lane without having people who shouldn’t be there in the way.

One of the race organisers also told be of some support people riding through the finish area getting in the way of the timing recorders.

Is it always like this?

Try On-One. Not sure if these would tick all your boxes, but look good for the money. Worth a punt for £110?

I got the xc wheelset for my wife’s bike. They look a little “cheap”, but are a good weight and seem to be well built.

Thinking of going for a last minute entry on the short. Where is the camping on the Saturday?

In the field right opposite the sports ground (start) if its in the same place as 2011. Didn’t ride last year, but will be there on Sunday. Really good spirited event. Will be taking it at a leisurely pace and a good chance to catch up with an old riding mate I don’t see very often.

I’d like to know who ordered the rain?

I’ve heard Schwalbe Landcruisers mentioned in several places as a popular tyre for the 3Peaks. I have no experience of these, but would like to know why they are considered a good choice.

Better? I can’t say for sure, but every time I crash or clip my >£1k Tomac carbon frame on some rocks I have a terrible “hope its not broken as I can’t afford to replace it” moment.

The £66 I paid at Two Brothers included dipping and blasting.

I can recommend Two Brothers down near Kelham Island. I recently had a frame resprayed there and they made a nice job (and quick turn-around). They kept all the threads (e.g. BB, rear mech hanger) clear of paint too. I had the frame back at my LBS as I’d assumed I’d need to have the BB chased – they thought it was one of the best paint jobs they’d seen from a general powder coater. The cost was £66 including VAT.

The one problem you will have there is choice of colour. They won’t stock “spangly pink” for sure, but they do have a nice lilac.

Rode with cantis for years. Looked after my cables, but used the 2 zip tie method described above. Never had an issue.

As said above clamp the tool in the vice, not the frame. Unless you want to bend it. Good luck.

Thanks for those thoughts. I think I’ll experiment with the stems I have (both 6 degree rise, 60mm and 80mm) and a bunch of spacers. May just get a cheep high rise stem to add to the experiment.

Like the picture above from TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR with a slack head tube, more spacers and longer steerer tube will bring the stem clamp behind the headset. I wasn’t sure if that would make a difference to the steering or stress/leverage on the steerer tube (I have 50mm of spacers on there at the moment).
