Thanks for your advice.  True advice indeed on the frame size. Frog are better in that they alter the frame size within wheel size as often it is not the case i.e. with Orbea 20, 24, 26 All have one size each

I managed to find somewhere that had a 24, it fit well now but was about inch off minimum insert.

Tried the frog 69 which looked good but but but pricy

To your point, in my head we are rising gnarly trails, in reality we are rising bridleway at most!

    Cheers 🙂

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies.

I initially thought the same but I think that the 11 speed cassette do not need a spacer. In fact I did try a small one and it didn’t make a difference.i could try putting a full spacer on as I do have one, but I think there would not be room to tighten the lock ring.

I did do a bit of searching. There appear to be a lot of YouTube videos about this that talk about it just being an effect of not perfect machining between the hub and cassette.

I must say I have never noticed it before, but I guess if it shifts OK then maybe it is not an issue?

    Cheers

it is most frequent at stress points and ‘lean’ chips i.e. it looks like if the clear coat has been damaged then something has got in and started working

what I am hearing (though correct me if I am wrong)is that it is just cosmetic and not structural so if I repainted that should fix the problem (or buy a new bike?)

    Cheers again:)

Cheers for the reply. It does seem to go beneath the clear coat but not much. I have to rub it off as it seems to be spreading and it looks nasty. I was either going to lacquer over the rub down or have it repainted. I guess I am trying to make sure the frame is structurally sound especially around the bb.

thanks for the advice, maybe i will continue to run both until i buy a dedicated gps

as for strava causing accidents – if you were really willing to risk your life to get one up on some guy you have never met, for the prestiage of a little crown jpg on a website, you are probably in the running for a Darwin Award

yea it used to be ok for me but the wildfire s readings are always now with massive flat lines like this (that is a good 5 mile stretch apparently in the sea):

    arghhh

but my tracks is 100% fine on the same device and strava is ok(ish) if mytracks is running at the same time!

cheers to all, had a great time, much a grueling accent and thrilling descent – rode many of the routes suggested here and also name check the dales bike centre who were a great help in providing route maps and advice. Many a highlight and a few photos of my own here:

    hi andyl

cheers for the reply – i usually go for a similar height from the teeth but the shift over onto the large ring just drives the mech into the side of the bash

the shifter is hard to move through the whole movement as if the cable was too tight, however the cable was pretty slack on the small ring.

hi, i am resurecting this as still having an issue.

in the instructions for the mech it says (or says to me) to install the mech on the inside of the bash i.e.

adjust the height of the frontderailleur so that the outer edge of the bash guard is within the specified range on the Pro-Set gauge. Also adjust so that the flatpart of the outer plate is parallel to the inner surface of the bashguard.

    http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/SI/SLX/SI-5KY0A-002/SI_5KY0A_001/SI-5KY0A-002-ENG_v1_m56577569830655481.pdf

however, if i do this the mech always hits the bash on shift, so i set it higher than the bash so there is about a 1mm gap between the bottom of the mech and the top of the bash

it seemed to shift ok but after on big ride it became really hard to shift, so hard I had to shift it with the palm of my hand (on the lever). however, when not under load the mech shifts fine and the shifter pulls the cable through fine.

i guess my main question is, have i set the mech up wrong and am trying to pull too much cable through i.e. trying to shift it too much making it tough to shift? if so how the heck do i get the mech to sit within the bash?

    cheers as always

ok, good, atleast i am not going mental

in that case should the mech, when mounted with no cable be over the granny ring? as if so, mine isnt. I cannot space it out anymore on the BB amd the limit screws are all the way out at the moment?

i had lots of spacing problems before with my chainguide, is maybe the inbred BB a slightly odd size?

anyway – advice welcome, especially if you have an inbred with this setup!
