Northwind; not quite, got tickets for the Shepards Bush night. I might hang around in town to see if I can get in the Acadamy on the Saturday via a tout. I like that the audience are the same people I danced with in the 90’s…….just balder and fatter and everybody sings every bloody word

Yes! Did a demo day a month or so ago with a friend who was in the market for a bike. We rode the Blur and the Tallboy Carbon as well as the Bronson and Solo.

I think it depends largely on your regular trails. It was decided that for most of the uk riding we’d do the Solo/5010 was perfect. It’s amazingly fast on the acceleration, light, agile and playful. Whilst we rode the full carbon version my chum opted for the alu frame but for us laymen the weight difference is barely noticeable. The only thing I felt it needed was a stiffer fork. The Fox 34s felt a wee bit flexy. I am used to Lyriks and I am being picky.

The Bronson is a monster. The carbon version was indeed light and pedalled better than I thought it would but I was left feeling like if just been driven around the trails on a sofa. Comfy as but a bit numb. I imagine on a big rocky decent it’d be a riot.

It is fact my friend is deeply smitten with his 5010.

I’m patient. I can wait. That first ride. I can almost taste the sweat.

It caused me less stress and desperate anxiety giving up smoking

    So my prospective build,
Large green frame, white Slants and the CCDB shock. I’ve a 1×9 SLX set up, Hope M4s, gravity dropper, Renthal bars all coming of my beloved Dialled Alpine. (it will rise again) I’ve also brought a pair of Havens to be shod tubeless with HR II/Ardent combo.

I’m checking for news roughly every 15-20 mins through the day. Expectation is reaching fever pitch. I might pop

I’d recommend going bareback for summer rides. It feels free and easy

Obviously you’ll need signal to down load but once it’s on your phone you’re away to the hills.

I use OSmapfinder on my apple toys. It’s ideal. Locate yourself, download the local sheet for 70p, off you trot.

As a truck driver from the Wiltshire/Somerset border the M4 J18 slip road or the Stones are my markers that after a week or so away I’m only an hour from home. Although on a Friday I could be staring at the Stones for over an hour whilst I wait for the Grockles to sort themselves out

Brown phlegm here. Although probably due to coffee. Well done all. I quit February 2009 but struggled when drunk. Would smoke a few rollies but then regret it as soon as I woke the next day. Seeing my father in law drown in his own lungs in January this year, the look of terror in his eyes has convinced me I never want to go out like that. I don’t even crave now. Keep it going.

I agree with the Captain. Safety and awareness has to be a two way balance. Cars, motorcycles, pedestrians, HGVs and cyclists. I drive HGVs for a living but thankfully work in agricultural haulage so have very little need to drive through major city centres. I have in the past though and one winter’s evening rush hour in the middle of Cambridge in particular was absolutely terrifying. With bikes, some with no lights skipping and weaving in and out of the traffic.
I agree trucks are optimised for their load carrying ability but their view on the whole is always improving.
When you first sit in a lorry, even now getting into a new cab the mirrors seem inadequate but once you’ve become used to the feel of the machine you’ll find them generally to have better all round visibility than a car or van.
Yes, there is that blind spot but we should all be aware of it. Constant vigilance by the driver coupled with raised awareness of the public (the “If I can’t see you” signs”) go a long way.

    get some bigger mirrors then

The mirrors themselves cause another major blind spot. Especially when approaching roundabouts

One of my favorite ever bits of radio was actually (forgive me) on the Jeremy Vine show. The subject was mole removal. Mr Vine was interviewing to Welshmen both called Gwyn who swore by beating the ground with aluminium shovels. Something about the vibrations scare the moles away or make them surface. The moment when his team lose it as Vine repeatedly yells ‘Gwyn!’ at the two ground whacking loons live on lunchtime radio was priceless.
I didn’t hear of a follow up story but either way, it could be s fun afternoon

Thank you all for the support. We live and learn.
Makeitorange, I agree but on your way to A&E you established your limits in skill and agility and just how big your balls were. I discovered my limits in tolerance and could feel neither my fingers nor balls.
And yes I can identify a small number of dogs by their dung. Mainly because I stare at it wonder whether I should pick it up and lob it at the poopytraters owner.
I’m not normally a grumpy man. Yesterday was a bad day. Thank you

I’m afraid all your colour coding has been wasted, those pedals and that wall……. ;-)
I personally find you never really finish the build. If its your one bike you’ll always want to add that extra bit.

It’ll be multi use really. Plugging in to my iDevices, the TV and my sony HiFi. Hard to sum up what I’m listening to. Hendrix/Band of Gypsies, Roots Manuva, The National, Clinton Fearon and Crystsl Castles have all been listened to this week.
I guess I want the balance between great sound and bling

I would say fitness could be key to both. Remember our legs are doing all the work of the rear sus. If your legs are going into spasm and not allowing you to float over the lumps/reduce the impact then punctures are more likely.
As said above body position could also be an issue and wider rims will also help.

Well, not advice as such. Went for my first run on Tuesday morning. 5.5km. Simple, didn’t really feel exhausted, it took me at least a km to warm up but felt good. Fairly respectable average speed too.
However, within an hour of finishing my legs felt tight as harp strings and hurt like they’d recieved a hundred thousand dead legs and have done ever since. Once warmed up my legs work fine. Badminton today was good but I might wait another day or so before running again. Be careful out there kids

There is no way that can be John Tomac… About 50 seconds in, the slow mo wheelie is not done by a pro or even a really competent rider

How many of you none washers also don’t clean their bikes after a ride, just brush the dried mud off before the next ride then?

I may just be quilty of that too. Although i do soak the chain in petrol periodically and i have washed the bike more recently than some of my (outer)kit

It’s dawned on me that we dont all wear baggy shorts over our padded lycra. I think everyones in agreement about washing the ‘cloth you touch’.
