Just spent the day in the Quantocks, me on Pikes and my friend on Revs and I’d say there’s very little in it. Both are great forks, light and stiff with ace control. However I liked the security of the Pikes stiffness when clattering down through the roots n mud.

I find they’re all much of a muchness but the trick is not to put milk in. It inpregnates the seals and quite quickly begins to smell and taste a little……ripe

Dunlop. £15 steals from local agri shop and I run around in them all day and they grip very well. The sole is first to fail. I’m using the Dunlop pro foot ones at the mo and they are lovely so far

    Get off and walk?

I had a moment in the Quantocks on Saturday. Super steep and looking like it had just been rotovated. I think I just fell with style.

I’m a long time alpine with coil lyrik user and I really can’t find fault with them. A perfect match. It’s so much a more capable bike than I could ever do justice. So many times I thought I’d proper trucked it and the bike has just picked me up and carried on. That said I miss the stiffness of the Wotans the lyriks replaced

When I tune in upon a morn I don’t wish to hear some blundering half-wit digesting his breakfast and telling me what a crap job he does when it is so blatantly evident.

And of course this is silly season. Many people on the motorways during school holidays won’t be used to the motorway’s habits and rhythms. They will also be lost, have the sat nav smack-bang in the middle of the windscreen, will have screaming kids behind them and the dog licking their ear, will have fallen out with the other half and is also trying to stick their two penneth worth in on a cycle forum

As a trucker, restricted to 56mph I’ve been verbally reprimanded for both undertaking (using lane 1) and tailgating in lane 2 yet the numpty in lane 2 was allowed to bimble off at 50mph oblivious.

Use your commen sense. In heavy traffic it’s not worth pulling left, the car behind will automatically accelerate to fill the gap you’ve created and then sit there alongside effectively boxing you in. It’s a bit like candy crush.
Once the traffic thins get left. I believe keeping left keeps you awake and aware of the traffic around you.

It’s not up to you or I to control others who wish to speed. Sitting in lane 2 at 70 claiming anyone wanting to go faster is a badman is petty and pedantic. I believe it’s instant ban for being above 100mph so leave it too the police. Speeding is the least of my concerns when I see people messing about on iPads, phones, paperwork, make-up and even masterbating.

If your car has cruise control use it, it’ll save you money. If your vehicle struggles to climb a hill get out the way. Tailgate a truck, it’ll pull you up. When a truck is overtaking you, don’t speed up.

    I’m ranting, I know

Wasn’t there a firm that made dropouts for loads of different bikes? I’m sure I remember someone on here mentioning it a year or so ago…..

I know it’s been a tough slog for the Cotic guys and the BMC lot. I understand it can’t be easy for them to see this dream through. And I really believe in what they’re doing. I want a 26″ steel bike that is built in Britain and the Rocket is a stunning looking piece.

The Banshee and the Bolt just don’t tickle me and obviously they’re not UK built.

If they will eventually produce a Rocket26 I will wait for that.

Today I was hauling a heavy load (43.6t gross) up over the A628 Woodhead Pass out of Ashton when I came up behind a long stretched out train of about 7 cyclists. If their kit was to be believed it was most of Team Sky.
From before Crowden until Vals Big Baps I was stuck behind them. There wasn’t enough space between the individuals for me to pull in and there was no way I could get past them all in one go. I gave up eventually and pulled over for a kip.

So as above but also those who pull up in front of me again at another red light after I’ve given time, space and patience to get past safely in a town. The only reason that red light stopped me was because I was being courteous.

That and people not wearing helmets on the trail. I don’t wanna have to bunny hop over their brains. I’m not good at bunny hopping

So what’s the feeling on the new alu shock actuator thingermejig? I really liked the sweeping steel bars. They seemed different. I’d like to see them on a built frame.
