Superscale 20 i suppose the floating graphic which states the level of regen on the dashboard is an indication.  Basically if its slowing me down hard or i am braking hard the level shoots up.  If im coasting it doesnt register, but imo on a 2t+ car momentum could be worth more than regen energy.

Mine has the flappy paddles.  TBH i dont use them since a colleague mentioned he got way better range setting it to auto regen (Like mentioned earlier).  Before it was a case of it either slowing the car down way to much with regen and losing any momentum or not slowing it down enough and having to use the brakes all the time.

Now it uses the sat nav system, the front cameras etc and just seems to know whats going on.  As per my colleague said, it now seem to float along on the motorway using much more momentum and around town it seems to know exactly when to use more regen on some junctions but not others.   Its witchcraft.

simon_g that sounds like the reason.  If thats the case, how are you supposed to know if a site has the latest chargers etc?  A bit of a minefield tbh

    Hi Julians.

Yes 100% they were tesla chargers.  The site i used is the gretna village site and from what i saw its two big banks of tesla chargers.  Actually i took a photo of the unit/screen (to show colleagues) and it says Tesla all over it.

I was a bit dubious myself (Which is why i wanted to try it out in a non emergency type situation).  It didnt look like a normal card payment setup.  I put my phone on payment and it beeped as accepted.  Happy days.

So yesterday i did my first real longer distance round trip in my new EQA.  The car ‘should’ have been able to do the full trip without top up but motorway speeds meant in reality it might not.

So it was a 240ml round trip.  The car has a range from 250-300mls and it started the journey with about 96% charge.  I got to the half way point with 49% battery used so i was pretty confident of getting back.  I put the return journey in the sat nav and it said i wasnt getting back without a charge on-route.  In the end i decided to just back off the speed a little and save range which worked and i could easily have made the full journey without a charge.

However, i also decided that this was a good opportunity to try out the public Tesla superchargers.  I was very impressed with them.  Plenty of chargers with some marked as Tesla priority (understandable) and the rest free to use.  Drove up, plugged in, flashed my bank card and walked off. £0.48 per KW.  I was only testing it out so i thought i would see how much it would put in if i just went inside, had a pee and came back out.  In the 6 mins it took to do the business it put in 10.685Kw costing £5.12.

I know thats not the cheapest way of charging but for convenience it takes a lot of beating.  At those figures, going for a coffee and coming back, say 30mins i would be looking at  fairly full battery for £25 with little inconvenience

Sharkbait yes thats kind of what i said.  Its averaging 3.4 with mostly motorway use which i dont think is where it performs best.  Once i got onto a A road journey it went upto 3.8.  My journey to work and back is even higher at about 5.  Basically it needs a bit of time to get a real picture of its average and i expect it to improve the figure.  I wasnt referring to any performance improvement.

I collected my new EQA last week with 20″ wheels included.  They are huge and kinda garish but i dont think the ride is too bad.  TBH i drive any EV in ‘little ol lady mode’ so its not getting thrashed about.  It does everything i ask.  Yes i mean i just ask it and it does it (Other than actual driving).

It went straight into motorway driving with me so its done about 500mls so far of which 350 are on motorway at 70mph.  Current overall average is 3.4m/kw but today on an A road drive its averaged 3.8m/kw at speed limits so it is steadily improving.  Probably go down once the proper cold weather kicks in.

Charging is simple.  36kw goes in in my ‘window’ for cheap leccy at 7.9p (£2.80 for a charge like this) and ive just decided to charge it when it gets down to about 30kw unless i know there is a long journey the next day.  Its on 34% at the moment so about 70% by tomorrow morning is more than enough and i would be able to charge more if a bigger journey crops up.

    So far so good.

No i have only driven my colleagues car which is on 18″ wheels.  The 20’s will of course make a difference.

No problem, i will update.  What do you want to know about?  I think you are correct about the 100kw charging but i cant imagine me ever having too much issue with this.  I charge at 7.4kw at home 95% of the time and the chargers at work are 50kw.  The chargers i have checked out near to where my longer journeys are are 80kw.  With a 70kw battery i dont think thats too much of an issue.  Do you think it needs more?

molgrips – the C300 is probably the best car ive had and even with only 25mls electric range it has suited my needs (18mls round trip to work).  In electric mode it is incredibly smooth and quiet.  I even found myself being disappointed when it switched over to diesel.

    Cant wait

Picking my Mercedes EQA250+ AMG Premium Plus up on Tuesday.  Just been told its ready and to get my current car ready to exchange.

Will be my first go with full electric, handing back a Hybrid C300 AMG.  Actually not been this excited about a car for a long time having driven company cars for 30yrs, they dont excite me really.  Colleagues have had theirs for a few months now and seem to be doing ok with them.  I have a home charger and getting off peak at 7.9p/kw.  Shouldn’t need charging elsewhere other than the odd long journey.

My wife has previously refused to drive my company cars but even she is showing interest in using it.  Ive even taken Wed/Thur off work to detail it so it stays relatively clean (Black)

This is gonna sound pathetic but which Tesla app is it.  I have checked and see various apps and i definately dont want to be signing up for one i dont need.  I do not have a Tesla but want to use their network for my new EV

Haha, the door handles on fiat 500’s.  I had it down to a fine art and it can be done in about 15mins.  You can get genuine part on ebay (Its a little metal hinge, not the handle).  It used to give me a little chuckle when the wife called to say ‘the door has broken again’.  I just used to reply i had a spare and would sort when i got home.

Hasnt that always the case with all things electric involving battery and charging technology.  Its extremely important to see the top end getting bigger/faster and those that use it do indeed pay extortionate amounts.  But as well, the trickle down effect is what used to be top of the line (250kw) technology becomes readily available and cheaper for the masses.

Not sure if its been mentioned on here but i read yesterday that a park & charge site in blackpool has finished installing 3 x 480kw chargers.  They accept that cars do not have this capability in the UK yet but if successful they plan to put in in about 6 other sites too.

Thats got to start being game changing if the car manufacturers up their game too

We also have the Bowder stone 45 mins away.  Some good evenings spent there followed by a paddle board 5 mins down the road

    You want a business idea?

Have a look at silly goat climbing brushes.  Dont copy his brush, just make a new one of similar size etc.  My tip would be to add personalisation as well.  Now instead of making it cost nearly as much as the mega expensive brushes to re-bristle the brush (Pay postage x 2 plus £18 for bristles) which kind of defeats the entire business model of sustainability and money saving, make it like cartridge brake pads where you slide the worn one out and slide the new one in.  Sell the bristle kits for a decent mark up but make it affordable to keep coming back for replacements.

A regular user of these brushes wears out a set of bristles on a pretty regular basis which when you have a mega expensive brush makes paying the same again to re-bristle it a painful process.

I have mailed you Kryton.  Thanks

Just come back from the jewellers.  The guy who does the valuing is off ill so ive left it with them.  TBH i wasnt very impressed with the lady that dealt with me, very hostile which i couldn’t understand.  Zero communication when i tried to be friendly and started off with claiming it was faulty until i pointed out she hadnt pulled the adjuster out enough to wind it and it was an automatic.  She just sat there adjusting the date and time for a 5 mins while i looked at the top of her head and then wrote a receipt out.  I think i will get a more personal service from Ebay tbh.

Lets see what they come back with.  Will be interesting if you guys guess too.  Mine is under £1k.  It hasnt had a service in my ownership so it is overdue a service.  No damage other than wear on clasp.  Keeps pretty good time if worn regular.  Not sure what else to add

Nicko74 i will keep this updated if it helps.  Taking it to a retailers today to see what they think.  TBH i am not expecting much.  Even if it was worth £3k i would expect them to offer no more than £1k due to margins etc.  We will see.

just realised i discussed this watch with you back in 2019.  WOW you were helpful back then too.  Nothing has changed tbh

Looking at the paperwork (I have a receipt from 2014 for used purchase) it has a reference of 2531.80.00 and its a Nov 04 watch. 41mm Automatic.

Had a good read of the ebay authentification process.  Seems excellent service.  If i list it as starting at £1500 then it gets sent for authentification etc free of charge.

I will see what the shop says then decide whether to list it.  Thanks for the help

How does the watch authentication work.  Do i send it off to ebay for this?

Yes Kryton, the smart watch has kind of killed off any appreciation i had of a nice watch.  It simply takes the watch from a piece of art to something that has no significance at all.

I have called the local jewellers and made an appointment to go and see them.  If they offer me anything reasonable (I dont know what reasonable is) then i will take it.

I’d probably list it on eBay with as much detail and as good photos as you can muster, start it at a price you’re happy with and let the demand dictate the price.   This scares me something chronic.

I will have a look on that youtube video but i really have got sick of taking it out of its box when i go for a birthday meal, having to set it etc and then put it back in its box.  My apple watch is so much more for me unfortunately.

Not sure if this is acceptable but i have finally decided enough is enough with my Omega Seamaster 300 auto.  It just sits in the box and i really cant see me ever using it again.  The fact my dad has just bought me a Speedmaster to sit beside it means i’m even less likely to use it.

I really dont feel comfortable selling it, a watch guru friend helped me buy it originally.  Ive kind of lost touch so dont feel i can ask for his help again.  I am not even that bothered about its value other than to say i dont want ripped off.  Where do i go with it because ive checked out a lot of these websites and i just get drowned as i really am not that clued up on them.

    Any help appreciated.

@fuzzywuzzy yes i had that issue when i checked out how to remove an sd card.  Thankfully it landed in the footwell.

What are the issues with loop recording?  Its kind of a fit and forget item for me.  The only time i will ever check a recording is when i fitted it, i checked after a few months to make sure all ok and when the police confiscated the original sd card.

If there is an incident i am pretty sure either the system locks the file or i would get a copy of the file that day.

Have had the fitcamx in my wifes car for about 6 months now.  I was taken to task on another thread on here where it kind of came across i was spying on my wife because it was so discreet but the fact she helped me fit it shows i am not some creep.

Anyhow i would thoroughly recommend as a fit and forget.  It took about 10 mins to fit and looks 100% factory.  It doesnt need any user input other than remove the SD car if & when you want to review some footage.  There is an app where you can download wirelessly but it takes forever.   I had to replace the sd card the police confiscated and all it took was format and put it in.   It is right in front of the mirror so gives perfect vision and camera quality imo is fine.

If you check up on my thread, it helped the police in an incident where a motorcyclist was nearly killed with no other person involved.  Really pleased with our purchase.

Do you think they would even be allowed to accept something so old?

My daughter is still learning to drive.  She bought herself a 15 plate Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost Titanium with under 60k on the clock.  Its absolutely mint and has every toy and safety aid needed.  Has a service history including what oil, spark plugs and tyres its had fitted.  Brake pads/discs and new tyres just done.  1 owner.  Airbags galore.  Its 100bhp which i have driven and its ample for motorways in a car that size.  Lets face it a 69bhp fiat 500 can skirt along at highly illegal speeds on the motorway if it needs to.

Good on fuel but not as cheap to insure as i expected because its putting out more BHP than, for example bigger older engines like the 1.25 engine they offer.

We got it for enough under £5k to be able to do the wetbelt job too which was due next year.  Ford have just accepted that Fiestas with FSH, inside the 10yr and mileage period are covered for wetbelt failure too

49 yr old who has been lifting weights for the last couple of years to get into decent shape.  I use it from time to time for periods of say 3-4 months.  Others have highlighted how deep the research is for it but i did have my bloods taken a few months ago (for another reason) and it did actually effect some levels (of course) to the point they wanted to check me for liver/kidney function.  When i explained i was taking creatine they were happy there was no issue.

From my limited knowledge it increases water retention in the muscles so it can inflate the look of the muscle, increase your weight but also increase your ability to train harder and longer.  Its no magic pill but it can help an older man fight off fatigue.

No opinion on the bike but if you are shopping around i used to deal with a guy called Neil Crayston at triple D motorsport in Kendal.  The guy seems to be constantly doing deals and sales and their facebook page is quite a fun read.

Nothing at all.  The best you can do is a Gelt woods (footpaths) and then something out Castle Carrock way but its isnt anything techy.  We used to do it as night rides to make it more interesting (and quieter) but once you get through the woods its a road stint UP HILL and then basically UP HILL off road and then downhill to then reverse your route back to Gelt.

If you are based in Carlisle you unfortunately need to either accept 45mins drive each way or get a road bike for through the week to get the miles into your legs.

I could have written this thread about 2 months ago.  I literally binge watched Grange hill for about 2 months solid.  There are about 25 seasons!!

From Tucker, Gripper, Banksie, Roland, Hollo, Gonch, Zammo etc etc.  I did the lot.  I could not believe how well (for the time) they covered all the issues that were about at the time without having to pussy foot around the subject.

Have a youtube search of Grange Hill racism and there is an astonishing clip of Benny complaining to a teacher and one of the more caring and understanding older girls.  She listens, gives advice and shows real empathy.  Then she ruins it all right at the end (in front of the teacher) by saying “you cant help being a nigg nogg” (Apologies if this offends, its what she says).  Simply stunning.

Just gone through this process recently.  I already have a built in BBQ/Outdoor kitchen type setup and indoors i have the airfryer etc.

I was so tempted to buy one of these ninja things (There are a few variations) or even a George Foreman XL BBQ which looks a very good budget alternative or i had a tefal version with big money off.  Prices ranged from £69 – £399 for each item.

Then i thought about it and tbh i cannot see the point.  If i want a BBQ i will light my charcoal BBQ.  If i want quick and easy with minimal cleaning my air fryer does sausages and burgers etc better than these new gadgets.  I also dont need to make room inside or outside for another gadget.

For me it became clear its just the next Ooni pizza oven fad.  I love a pizza but I could never eat enough pizzas to justify it and they arent particularly healthy to eat on a regular basis.

As if no one is going to hear a load of frozen piss cubes dropping through a letter box.  Not fool proof but i would suggest a bottle of piss poured through an open letterbox may just be something you could get away with but with all these ring door bells it would be risky
