the E.U has said retailers can’t be charged more than 0.2% for debit cards and 0.3% for credit cards

this is the ‘extra’ some retailers add on for using a credit card and has nothing to do with worldpay who are a clearing house not a retailer

Rayban’s are OK but there are sunnies with far better optics in the same price range, most people in the optical trade will argue between serengetti and Maui Jim as the best lenses out there, personally i prefer the latter

SoGA states that they should rectify the problem “in a reasonable time” or refund you (though they don’t have to offer a 100% refund, they can take into account how long you’ve had use of it).

Like so many of these things, “reasonable” isn’t well defined. I’d hazard though that making you wait three weeks before accepting the goods back is unreasonable.

If you want it fixing, you may have better luck dealing directly with the manufacturer; though legally, it’s the seller’s responsibility. They have to make things right with you, any wranglings between the seller and the manufacturer is their problem.

TBH though, I think if it were me I’d be firmly in the position of “I want nothing more to do with this shower” and pushing for my money back.

All of the above is correct…………………………………..provided the ebay shop is hosted in the UK, anywhere else and you really need to go down the ebay/paypal resolution route

Just to say Rodenstock’s cr39 lenses are made from the same cr39 material as anyone elses, and their polycarb are made of the same polycarb. the colour distortion you are referring to is generally down to poor glazing rather than poor lens. Sorry I dont have any cotacts I can offer in Scotland.

Your powers of deduction must be amazing as TBH £80 could be very expensive or very cheap compared to cillary depending on the type and material of lens being glazed and also what style of frame it is being glazed to,a little more info might help.

5-7 days is the processing time if you look at your bank statement debit card ‘outs’ tend to show 2-3 days after you paid (other than cashpoint) so they aren’t shafting you with this, just how long it has taken to get this done

You can go either, our installer did advise though that if you use other fuel it will knacker up your flu faster, so although ours is multi we are sticking with wood.

I quite like the ‘modern lines’ look on stoves and this is the chesney salisbury we had fitted having its first burn test

This is the end result after redecorating, the chimney outside is massive and we could have done the whole inglenook look, but again we preferred the simple lines

Shamir drivewear lenses eh? Hmm. The MAR coatings won’t last you 18 months and they are useless indoors as they are always pretty darkly tinted as they are polarised. There is no decent transition for driving available, trust me. The transitions xtra active are pretty poor as they dont react as well as normal transitions. Best option is driving sunglasses, preferably polarised.

Another quote from an ‘expert’ who knows bob all……

below is the AA’s advice re tinted lenses

    Tint density
Tinted lenses are graded according to the density of the tint, and all sunglasses should, by law, be labelled and show the filter category number.
Lenses with light transmission less than 75% are unsuitable for night driving.
Yellow tinted lenses are not recommended for night driving. The tint is likely to be unperceivable anyway if the lens has a light transmission factor of 75% or more to meet night driving requirements.
Lenses with light transmission less than 8% are unsuitable for day or night driving.
Due to the light levels within the car, filter category 2 lenses which transmit between 18% and 43% of light are recommended for daytime driving.
Filter category 4 lenses only transmit between 3% and 8% of light and are not suitable for driving at any time. Sunglasses with these lenses should, by law, be labelled ‘Not suitable for driving and road use’.

Which is exactly how the transition xtra active’s work………funny that how people in the industry do the right thing

One of my favourites on and off the bike,

ref Hora above ‘cheap’ transitions are suseptible to ‘staining’ where the lens retains some of the colour, a good lens doesn’t do this.

They look awful. Sunglasses frames have pretty big lenses, wide arms and occasionally a wrap around. Most glasses frames have pretty small lenses.

At best you end up looking like a villain from Indiana Jones.

You also get naff sun protection – sunglasses have big lenses and thick arms to stop light getting around the lenses and into your eyes.

written by someone who doesn’t get good advice about frame choice in his opticians……………..basically there are 2 ways to make a decent sunglass either a very close fit with good wrap (most sport style frames) or a v large coverage lens (normally fashion style frames) anything else and too much light comes in around the edges to make them useful.

Transition extra active is atm the best transition lens and ONLY one that works partially in the car, they can go as dark as a proper sunny, the latest variant is also supposed to have a graded change depending on the current light conditions ( will be ordering myself a set this week to try them out as need the info for patients). Personally I would never be without a transition having used them for years, but they are not for everyone……one word of caution they dont look good on wedding pics I actually have a spare pare of glasses with clear lenses especially for these occaisions.

Repair/ replace /refund says sale of goods act, your choice not theirs.

Wrong…..legislation is subject to interpretation by both retailer and customer, the stupid wording in sale of goods act is ‘reasonable timescale’.

At five weeks i would say it has passed the ‘reasonable’ (4wks is assumed in most cases but never been tested in law so still gives bad retailers ‘wiggle’ room) so would be pushing for the refund.

Meddled with Karate and others but Judo was my sport, my 2p for any of the martial arts

Train properly it will teach you fantastic self discipline………transferable to many other things in life

Train properly you will find your ‘reaction times’ become alot faster again transferable.

Any kind of ‘full contact’martial art anfd you will find your pain threshold gets alot higher as some injuries (small to major) are inevitable

Getting to ‘black belt/dan grade’ or what ever its called in other styles is really only the start, someone mentioned it above and the best way I can explain it is up to black belt you are taught the principle and completion of a technique, once you reach dan grade or a certain level you start to adapt these techniques into how they can work for you, and if really good start to make a few of your own (this is really hard as most have probably been done at some point but gone out of fasion).

One other thing I have noticed in martial arts, you dont really get bullies, why? they dont last long as there is always someone better (this learned training with what I would consider some VERY hard (olympic level) athletes and not one of them could you call any kind of bully)

On accepting a refund the companies cotractual obligation to you was completed, if you wanted to ask for any recompense re your carpet ths needed to be raised/agreed before the refund was accepted……..sorry.

Now the good news, ballbearing runners are generally ‘inset’ so measure the size of inset, the pop down to your local DIY place buy a piece of batton of simillar (but slightly smaller)cross section and a candle with your refund, measure twice cut once and make your own runners you will then have a perfectly servicable unit for a much reduced cost!

With the balance you should also be able to buy something to remove any ‘stains’ on the carpet 🙂
