With respect Poly you should really learn about reality tell me one business you know of that had quite a high start up cost or wants major recapitalisation where the directors wouldn’t be asked for guarantees……………..if you cant then the opposite is obviously the ‘normal’

as said above when purchasing a business or taking a loan in for the business a personal guarantee can be asked for.

There is nothing wrongful or fraudulent in this

Ltd/PLC removes the financial responsibility but in a small company banks may well ignore and demand the directors offer personal guarantees.

No I’m not my wife and I are directors of our own co when we bought our business 12 years ago part of the loan was secured against our house and until the loan was repaid if we’d got into difficulites then the bank could have chased our house as an assett.

Similarly a friend workred for a packageing co that went bump a few years ago, shortly b4 the end a couple of the owners tried to get out of directorship to avoid futer censorship from becoming a director in the future, the IR spotted this and they failed……

peterfile role of a director varies

in a ltd co the directors are ‘generally’ (but not in every case) the owners of the company and depending on the companies finance structuring their personal assets can be chased for company lialbilities (ie second mortgage on home to secure business loan etc). In this scenario it is very dificult to resign as a director without cetain approvals particularly if a company is in dificulties

In a PLC generally the ‘title’ director is given to someone who heads a division within the co ie finance new products IT, they will generally have no financial tie in to the company other than maybe share holdings so its a role much easier to depart

PLC’s are shareholder owned so directors have no direct liability for company liabilities, infact a PLC doesn’t need a ‘director’ as within a plc its just a job title.

How is the company listed? PLC LTD partnership or soletrader, the implications are very different depending on the co status

So its the delivery of the information, not the consequences of it you are annoyed at? three words life’s too short……

    2 sides to this

1 why is it a friend telling you not the school if its so serious?

2 why are you annoyed at another kid for telling you when your boy has done something wrong if its serious, we tell our kids there is no need to be a ‘snitch’ unless it could have serious consequences, someone gets hurt etc. Maybe the other kid has similar guide lines and thought this was important enough to tell?

I’m in wellington shropshire, so prob a bit far for you,

but something happened and they closed shop and vanished.

This is unfortunately a trend atm as there are far too many unregulated bucketshop/internet companies who will do the profitable part of the job without doing the hard parts, the current stats show that in the next 2 years the number of independants will approx halve so making sure your service is right is the only way to go, the funny thing those that want the best service but cheapest price will lose both due to their buying habits over the next few years as once the sevice providers have been eliminated do you really expect prices to stay low? Compare tesco of 10 years ago to today and you will see the model that is being followed

jolly handy having a biking optician on here I must say

I’d just clarify I’m not the qualified optom in our house, the wife is and I’d never take away from their specialist knowledge. But I’ve workrd in the shop full time for 7 years and a number of years part time/unofficially b4 that and spend most of my time either dispensing or glazing repairing glasses, my background b4 optics was in design so I kinda like to know how and why things work so my knowledge on lens types frames glazing and materials is pretty sound. I’m also pretty analitical so patients with problems occaisionally ask for me specifically as I will try hard to solve issues and think outside the box alot (classic example of this is a patient having a new pair of glasses fitted correctly by us where previously had a very poor fitting from another optician but had become tolerant of the issue) we solved this over time by adjusting to similar and mproving slowly over time, not many places would put that effort in but its how my wife and i like things done

Speeder was it the metal set within the plastic that broke? if so this is called a ‘half joint’ and as long as the surrounding plastic is in tact most opticians can either repair it or send it to a company who can (if you want to that is)

@jeff thanks for the thought but if you are looking at high wrap or complex lenses its better to let someone competent physically see the frames you chose on you to ensure best results

@yac any thinness of lens can have the base curve changed, but for future ref if you bike in you glasses and want mid thinness consider a polycarb lens as its refractive index is 1.59 against mid thinned 1.6 so come out with a very similar result but will offer better impact protection for your eyes

One word of caution about high wrap with higher prescriptions the wrap can cause distortion in the lens which some people are unable to tolerate

    Rx is a prescription lens

Oakley will do their own lenses that an opticians can order, or will have access to a massive range of other lenses, some of which will not be as good as oakley , some will be similar, and IMHO some will be better, on top of this the design of lenses can be different ie the prescription is made by the differenc eof curve between the front and rear faces of the lense, now the starting curve can be made steeper or flatter to suit a particular type of frame, the above sounds like someone has used a standard lens rather than one with a higher base curve

    thehustler

I should have said, the UV can be done in three ways, polycarb (naturally UV resistant), a UV dye use for coluor or an additional UV coating

    thehustler

Hora find an RX frame you like in the style/fit you want, any decent optician, independant or multiple or even the online stuff can put whatever colour tint you like on it

    thehustler
    Free Member

Problem is that the frame is curved, but the lenses are quite flat

Yak how long have you had them as this sounds like non oakley lenses been done on the cheap(not your fault the optician/glazers should know better) the base curve of a lense can be altered to account for ‘high wrap'(those that curve around your face) if its less than a year i would be taking them back and asking for the job to be done properly

    thehustler
    Free Member

IMHO yes, the frame is designed to ‘grip’ to your head rather than have the arm bent behind the ear, we sell loads of frames with this kind of arm and rarely have any fitting issues (probably alot less than with standard arms)
