Hi Fergal. The best advice I can give is not to overthink situations and what could happen. I am now 6 month post op from a snapped Achilles tendon after doing it practicing for the Dunkeld enduro. This is my second full rupture of the Achilles the first being 7 years ago which I then re-ruptured because I came back too soon although the first one was the left leg. I was givin a set of strength tests to do and once I could do them I new I had the strength to get back on the bike. Two years ago I put my handlebars through my chin requiring 17 stitches after a heavy landing on the Matador at Inners. I turned 50 last year and my only concern is that my weight(17stone) will stop my mtb not anything else. If you could do fast, techy, drops and steep stuff before your injury you know you can still do it after you injury that is what I keep telling myself.

I have a snack bar in a place called Craigneuk in Wishaw which I started up over 20 years ago. In that time two of my customers have been blasted with a shorgun and their bodies burned before being dumped in East Lothian, another three customers throw a guy out a flat window then proceeded to smash his head in with paving blocks until he died so their doing 20 years each another three lured a guy out from a pub in Newmains where they killed him with a shotgun their doing 19 years and only last year two of my customers who are cousins started fighting in the street which resulted in one stabbing the other one to death. All of these boys I have known since they where at primary school and where regular customers who never once gave me any bother. That said most of them where career criminals.

I had the misfortune of coming across someone walking down a steep section on the Crows Nest at Dunkeld just as I entered it. Put my foot down as I tried to slow down mid section and snapped my Achilles. The guy apologised and cycled off

I wouldnt worry to much about it,I ride the Golfie,Dunkeld and other steep stuff most weeks but the black at Comrie Croft freaks me out Ijust cant ride it without crashing because I start to panic as soon as I drop into it

Yes they will adjust the bite point but but once your pads get below 50% the pistons are starting to be rather far out,you will yave to get the Hope adaptors because of the shape of the caliper. In my opinion stick with the E4’s as they are plenty powerfull and thats coming from someone that weights 17st  rides lots of steep stuff

I have E4’s on my Mega and my hardtail V4’s on my downhill bike. What I didnt know at the time of buying the V4’s that to get the best out of them you should run the V4 rotors with them as their thicker than standard rotors so the pistons dont have to travel as far to the bite point but they cost £90 each. I overcame this by changing my pads when they went down to 50% wear.

I am in Glsgow and have flown every time, the first five years from Edinburgh then last year from Manchester as the flights where only £89. Booked a whole chalet from Riders Refuge which worked out at £150 p/p with transfers included and we have never had any problems or hassle with the bike bags.

I use 203 rotors on both ends. The shimano adaptors didn’t sit right

I had to buy the Hope adaptors as my Shimano ones wouldnt fit without packing them with spacers, still managed to use my icetech rotors though.

I have a meduim 2014 26 inch Mega TR and use it for everything from xc rides to days at the Golfie and it has never let me down. I am 5’10 with a 31 inside leg and feel the meduim is to compact so will be replacing it with a large when I change

I done the very first Kinlochleven Enduro and was thinking to myself during practice wtf I am seriously out of my depth, after practice I was in my bed for 7pm completely done in. On race day I crashed more times then I was on the bike but managed to finish it, when I crossed the finishing line the sense of relief and accomplishment that I had managed to finish this bonkers race was to much for me that I burst into tears while talking to my wife on the phone
