    Although not addressed to me

How do you guys get your pics so clear and sharp?
    Is it?
    the camera?
    the lens?
    shutter speed?
    aperture?
    lens?

Camera – no, not really if you have a modern DSLR. People have been making sharp images on film cameras for years.
lens – yes to a certain extent. Cheaper ones wide open are softer.
shutter speed – yes potentially, good technique holding the camera will help.
aperture – yes, each lens has a sweet spot for sharpness.

Some post processing subtle sharpening may have taken place also.

Worth having a look here also http://makingsharpimages.com/

Not Jessops though – avoid the guy with the pony tail. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. There’s one in every one. :-)

Something small enough that you carry and use all the time. GF-1, GX1, Pen, Fuji X100/10 etc all good. Or small DSLR as noted above. Try it out in the shop though and maybe check out dpreview.com

Went from D70 to D300 and was amazed. Great at high ISO and also larger LCD for checking focus. Now on a D700 but was very happy with D300. Only reason I upgraded was for full frame with shift lenses.

Finally made it out on the bike again and dared to pack my D700 + 28mm lens in my bag.

Own a shift lens but very pleased to say I’ve never tried that really annoying effect. Hope the TV producers find another effect to use soon.

Get the 35mm ƒ1.8 as it’s closer to a “standard lens” on a cropped sensor. You’ll learn more with a prime as you do less zooming to find something interesting.

Regarding RAW – each new camera model has a slightly different RAW format which takes a while to get added to the software via an update (Lightroom, Bibble, Aperture, Adobe Camera RAW etc). Same with any manufacturers RAW format, not just Nikon.
