Bolle contour. Under a tenner and no misting as long as you are moving. They steam up when stationary but of course if you’re stopped you can take them off. Simples!

Steady rumbling of thunder just passing us near Milton Keynes. It came from direction of Oxford – same storm I suppose. We’re on the edge of it so just got rain and noise…

If they want to buy new don’t ignore Halfords. Some bargains in the sales when they happen, and the Voodoo and Carrera bikes are pretty decent and amazing spec for the money. Won’t win any streed cred prizes at the trail centre but may get a good bike to start on.

My large 214 has not missed a beat but I have the build of a racing snake so is not too stressed. Physique genetic rather than training based – skinny with no muscle as I found this evening while trying to pedal through the sticky mud fest. Back on topic – nice bike…

Denon mini system is a good place to start. Think you can get iPod dock etc. also look at Marantz wifi systems which are pretty good but may be over budget. Could make savings buy buying speakers second hand off eBay – lots of cheap small speakers. Have some small Celestions and haven’t bothered listing as won’t get enough to be worth the aggro…

I had a Fury for a year and it was good as new when I sold it. Solid bikes i.m.o.

If you are feeling flush Etymotic with custom fit are expensive but secure and very comfortable. Don’t use them on the road – very effective isolation from traffic noise so likely to lead to biff bang wallop type incident eventually…

Bought my Zesty even though something like an Anthem would have been more appropriate for my riding. Decision was 90% based on the fact that to me it just looked “right”. No regrets and every time I look at it I want to go out for a ride. Do what feels right IMO.

I kept my old AV amp and used an hdmi switcher. All run off Logitech harmony remote so works without any extra hassle as programmed to switch automatically. Worth a thought?

Happy PlusNet user here. Have always found them very helpful and service is reliable. Used to use Virgin and while they are good when I started (8 years ago) went downhill fast. Unlike me on my bike.

I’ll get my coat. See you all in the bad jokes thread.

Another EB101 here. Got it for my 21st from mum and dad. My dad didn’t want me to have it as “it will be obsolete and you should have something that lasts”. More than twenty years later still going strong! Will go and dig out Blue Lines this minute. Thanks for the prompt – great album.

Or try park at my house website – bound to be some round there but likely not cheap.

I have a 26er and a 29er. I like them both. I do not, however, like coleslaw. Or herring. So those cancel out. Probably.

USA based supplier called Endura (?) also gets mentioned a lot and people seem happy with them. I just put a new Shimano one in mine and will try to keep water out this time – if that fails I will join you on the non-Shimano hunt. Surely there’s enough of these around now for it to be worth Hope doing one? Come on chaps – get your impeccably northern fingers out and get machining!

Have read all the above with interest as my other half is a big supporter of animal rights. I disagree with her on many fronts, but having thought about yesterday’s race I simply cannot see there is a decent defense for carrying on in it’s current form.

There is always risk in life, and I do not disagree with horses being used in sport. However, the level of risk in this race seems unacceptable, and even in flat racing there are things I can’t agree with (mainly racing horses that are too young to be ridden by any normal standards).

So – if the race is to carry on I think it has to change substantially to get the risk down to a more acceptable level.

    Just my opinion, of course…

I needed a second (cheap) bike to leave behind where I am working away from home. Couldn’t see the point buying something I already had so just got a Voodoo 29er off ebay. Two rides so far and no regrets, but not the magic pixie dust that small minoriity seem to think.

No way it feels like a “short travel full susser” – it is another hard tail albeit a fast rolling one. It didn’t make me magically quicker, though being tall-ish it does seem to fit really well and steers brilliantly.

All in all it will make a nice change to ride during the week when I am away but I”ll be happily back on a full susser at the weekend.

Of course a full suss 29er might be good…

I agree rejoicing in someone’s suffering is offensive and wrong headed. However, I can’t help thinking that very occasionally there are exceptions. And I think this is probably one.

He is an evil man and mankind in totality is probably better off without him. I imagine even as we speak some continental STWers are on their way to the clinic with the requisite set of bombers. Firm but fair.

Find a local oil buying syndicate, and if there isn’t one, start one. Suppliers will discount for a bulk order from properties close together. Saves us a few p per liter – syndicate gathers requirements from members by email then rings round local suppliers for a quote. Typical order can be over 10k litres…

Have a house with too little insulation and can’t easily add any so a bit obsessed with this t.b.h.

Commuted in that London many years ago. Heavy steel framed mountain bike with fat slicks was best for me – comfortable and could hop up and down kerbs, over potholes etc. without worrying about flats. May not have been fastest but was most fun…

That’s a proper bargain alright. I find Paul’s and other similar bargain merchants are great if you fit the usually limited range of sizes they have left in the mega deals category. If you do – happy days!

    Handsome Devil.

Having said that the whole of the first album is nigh on perfect. As is Meat is Murder. We’ll not see their like again.

I remember when all of this was just fields.

12 weeks for me to be back on a bike. No metalwork for me. Also did my ribs and they were much more painful than the shoulder. Hope you get better soon – positive vibes.

I have a rear guard mounted on the swingarm – gives better protection of the seat tube. In my case not to protect a dropper post but to protect my BB from water ingress as the bearings seem to be made of French soft cheese…

Might be worth a go. It’s a Zefal No Mud.

Did s short ride with a friend after work yesterday that fitted that description – only about an hour (for me – you may be a lot quicker! was about 8.5 miles of mixed sort of stuff) but tracked with my phone so I could repeat so I can save a gpx. Don’t know how to send attachments on here – if you know how to do that and are want a copy am happy to share it, but you may want something longer?

Agree Sherlock Holmes for a look into another age, and cheap to buy or free to download.

To me the greatest detective fiction writer of all time is Raymond Chandler. If you haven’t tried you must Again, amazingly evocative of a past world – 1940’s Hollywood in the case of Chandler and I think these are the birth of what we now call pulp fiction (just my opinion – I know nowt…)

Sadly he didn’t write that much, so for a more modern substitute (albeit nowhere near as good) try Robert B Parker.

I will be trying a few from earlier posts myself. Thanks to all!

Got similar challenge myself. Need a cheap second bike to keep away from home – working abroad a lot and can’t ride so need a cheap bike. May as well try something different so want a 29er for under 600 quid. Best I have found is Voodoo 29er from Halfords. Keeping an eye waiting for the inevitable sale at the moment…

Love mine (a 214). Any failure to climb properly is entirely down to me and not the bike…

And supposedly it all started with a Kraftwerk gig at the Uni in 1976. Sheffield’s version of the Sex Pistols at Manchester Free Trade Hall.

Used to ride from Oaklands – just south of Stevenage. Had an easy 12 mile route with almost no roads and a few fun bits along the way including mardley heath which has some nice short but fun loops I used for messing about. Can’t find GPX or would post something but Oaklands/Digswell/Tewin/HarmerGreen/Mardley Heath sort of loop would be fun to string together!

Last w/e. Thought about letting neighbour’s horse in to do it but clean-up issues put me off. Actually better yet she has some sheep – very neat at nibbling, are sheep. Might be worth a go?

I chuckled. Once. But I did not switch it off. May be a grower.
