BP – that’s really useful about the start times, ta. I would be happy getting there and underway sooner rather than later so hopefully I can do that.

interesting, i might do a couple of hours of swains lane ascents then for some final strength/power practice… :)

I’m trying to decide how far to head on a final long training ride tomorrow – I’m not worried about the distance, more about what would be most use tomorrow (and potentially early next week) for speed and preparation.

    Any thoughts anyone?

just a bump for gareth, if yuo wouldn’t mind the GPX would be much appreciated. :)

The book says you have to be there between 30-60 minutes before the start, and the way they word it is pretty militant about getting in before the half hour cut-off… I am going to make sure I’m there in plenty of time, it would be a little frustrating to fall at that final hurdle!

gareth – if you wouldn’t mind, that would be much appreciated. I have downloaded it but it just seems to generate a few sections of the route rather than 1 continuous ride when I try to convert it. My email is username at gmail. Thanks. :)

gareth, cheers – I’ll give that a go.

so… GPX – anyone? I’m thinking they don’t offer it as I can’t find one after a bit of searching, but I would prefer to have one if possible. Anyone know if it’s the same route as last year?

Ludgate Hill will probably feel like Mont Ventoux!

You could stop at the sweet shop halfway up for a breather :)

I’m get there pre-6:30ish for a 7:09 start. Early doors then!

Quick question – does anyone know if there is an official link for a GPX of this year’s route?

bpd – your link doesn’t work (perhaps you need a typewriter that’s sexier?)… allow me:

Plenty of places in London will do a bike fitting for less than £200 – Two Wheels Good in Stoke Newington as an example, I think it’s £50. That would be money well spent, trust me!

Just in case anyone cares, I can confirm that startup text setting is also on Edge Touring. Someone on here mentioned it a while back.

Off to Crete on the 30th… I need to hire a pedalo

Try not to fall in – I wouldn’t like to rely on Greek medical assistance right now, insured or not…

I have a garmin but long ago stopped using Garmin websites. I always upload directly to strava using the Garmin Communicator.

I noticed on Monday that this was no longer possible and uploaded the file directly from the garmin device. Shame, but not really much more hassle for me.

Same. Same. Same. Same. Same. Same. And same.

First video – the overhead close one where you can’t see the actual collision impact – you can see that she doesn’t get touched by the other rider coming through, I think.

The head on view, my interpretation of it is that:

she comes through celebrating no hands,
then realises that the photographers are standing too far out for the size of group coming through (backed up by the organiser or whoever it is trying to herd them back in),
panics and gets hands back on bars as quickly as she can,
which causes her to swerve towards them and exarcerbates the situation…

On another note, the photographers look to be about 20m from the finish line, there’s no way the peloton could safely have slowed down to avoid them considering where they were standing…

Could be wrong, but that’s what I’m seeing! Whatever, it’s nasty stuff, particularly as it causes a domino pile-up for the other riders as well…

Photographer being the idiot, rather than her presumably?

Very nasty crash. Hard to tell how it’s caused, looks like she slightly loses control while no hands but probably because she’s clocked the person she collides with and tries to get hands back and avoid but without time to do so…

I’m with Zen. Very happy so far. You may or may not care / be aware that they don’t block the sites that the big ISPs block when requested to for breach of copyright reasons (see 2nd para here: http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2015-05/27/high-court-blocks-pirate-ebook-sites as an example).

Alex – interesting, and not good! I did ask Hope themselves about removal to pre-empt my intention of taking it out and trying to reinstall it a bit better, and they basically said tap it out gradually with a suitable sized bit of metal and a hammer… haven’t yet done that, of course…

Where are you mboy (or anyone with the tool) – my LBS, an Evans no less, did fit mine for nothing but it creaks a lot and is driving me mad :(

I am on the verge of buying the tool myself so I can remove it and start again but if anyone in or around London has or can lend the tool that would be amaze – in exchange for appropriate reimbursement of course.

I find that once you get the threads engaged enough with a bit of wiggling you can get them to tighten up without the proper tool.

edit – I note this has already been pointed out!

Good news all round – both times! I don’t think I’d spec my own Landy like the one they’ve lent out, but I quite like the brazen blong on show… Not exactly subtle!

If I was a local Land Rover servicing outfit I’d be straight round there to fix them prior to opening up for the day… Sadly, I’m not.

However, the mentality of some people never ceases to amaze…

I do have an M8 x 0.75 tap so can do blind, threaded holes for a male screw

I don’t need any of these (wishing I’d never sold my M970 cranks now!), but surely if this is an option this is the only way to do it. Caps with threaded rears for the chainring bolts is a great idea!

Very dodgy ground. No direct evidence and plenty of innuendo, despite the statement to camera at the end suggesting they weren’t accusing Mo of anything. How that got lawyered I have no idea.

Public interest, presumably? – arguable that the inisinuation is offset by the public interest element, and that the final statement is enough to distance MF from the allegations… (IANAlibelL)

Mine was fine for 50 miles and is now creaking. A lot. :x

I assume / hope (ha) that the shop that fitted it didn’t take enough care in doing so and that I can rectify it myself… I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get the proper tool by the looks of things…

oldnpastit – internal diameter of press fit is 1.6 inches, so should just about fit a press fit bottom bracket with a bit of persuasion, I assume.

I ride all around London with my son in the bike seat on the back of my single speed. The hills of North London with the bike itself, the seat and him on it mean I’ve now got upgraded super strong legs!

Got to get the exercise where you can. :)

And andybanks, I step off over the top tube which is a tad tricky but can be done quite easily particularly if you time it so the standing leg is just going over the top of a pedal stroke – gives you a good platform to step from.
