I moved from GiffGaff to The People’s Operator, no complaints so far and it’s been well over a year. Good deals on there.

Haha, I was a bit worried about that having heard tales of dodgy drivers all over the place.

I have to say, at no point did I ever have a worrying moment, nothing like as bad as I’m used to back on the roads in and around London and home counties etc. I asked a few of the guys I was riding with on both sides of the country how they found it, mixed response but I was pleasantly surprised during my stay.

I was in Melbourne and Perth for a few weeks over Christmas and New Year’s with my family, and decided I had to take my road bike. It was totally painless and hassle free, the only issue was the extra rather large bag to transport to and from the airport for each flight.

I got an Evoc bag, with the bike in it + a few tools and accessories it was about 16kg. My suitcase was less than 20kg, at no point did any staff member question or ask what was in it, and there was never any discussion or need to pay additional cost. I was amazed at how easy and painless it was, and it was massively worth it – as soon as I hit the roads in Victoria and WA I knew I’d done the right thing taking it! Recommended. :)

The one and only reduced to a very good price (relatively speaking of course) – Gabba 2

Dragon’s Lair on the NES – I’ve seen a walkthrough video on Youtube and it’s a ridiculously short process from start to finish but so hard… turns out I’ve got pretty close, but not close enough :x

We just gave someone a set of these for exercise / gym use, and they have been very well received. I was impressed with the quality and their sound too:

It’s not going to change the opinion of anyone whose opinion won’t be changed, but it is a very interesting read and in my view quite convincing. Obviously the only way you’d ever get someone like Vayer to change his mind would be to have him glued to Froome’s side for a month or more… even then somehow I suspect he’d still find a flaw to pin his attention-seeking soundbite on…

My son is 3.5, my daughter is just under 9 months. By the time we had adjusted to life as parents and had started to get some semblance of sanity and the occasional good night’s sleep back into our lives, we went through (and are still going through) the whole challenging early months again. It has undoubtedly been tough, and far tougher having two than one, but we are now starting to feel more human again and are pleased that the two are quite close.

I would say don’t underestimate the process of going through it all again, but of course that will be true whenever you have another if you do… I know there are a lot of challenging years ahead, but early months infancy is now behind us for good (we intend!), and I’m pretty pleased about that in many ways…

Last problem I had with noisy Shimano discs was due to leaking seals at the caliper

Same – one replaced rotor and second set of replacement pads before I clocked what was causing it!

I would also say Flip2 which you can get from Amazon for £40ish and is absolutely excellent, though by the sounds of the Flip3 (which I’ve not used) it sounds like that is even better and still not a bad price. So a Flip3.

Condor are great guys, as a matter of fact had one of my bikes in there for a bit of maintenance yesterday and no complaints at all. Had a call from the mechanic when they were working on it to talk over what they were doing. Very good service all round.

growinglad – have a read of the description on the Youtube page, explains how it all panned out, sounds pretty intense (as if climbing in that sort of situation isn’t intense enough without the security / police getting involved!).

I saw that yesterday… crazy stuff. Do we think that the tracking shot at 3m49s is done with a drone?

It didn’t seem likely to me because of the at least intended covert approach they have to adopt, but I can’t see how else they would have done it? Any thoughts?

Sounds like I’m in a minority compared to those above, but I have found GP4000s, the rear mainly, to get trashed by riding through winter.

At the moment my winter bike has GP 4 Seasons which are pretty good, but I noticed the other day that a large chunk of tread has detached from the rear of those, and they’re not even that old… :x

Hmm, not promising – I was in two minds about just whipping it out and going for a Dura Ace instead… may yet have to by the sounds of things!

I bit a bullet – it’s in at Condor now and they’re going to remove it clean it up and reinstall it, hopefully properly and creak free this time! If this doesn’t work I will not be pleased :x

He did what I would be petrified of doing if I took delivery of something like that – if you aren’t used to driving a car like that the unexpected power if you put your foot down like that must be terrifying… and expensive!

Guys, thanks – some good suggestions and points I hadn’t thought of, particularly taking my board out there and then trying alternatives once I’m there. I may try to pick something up in sales but we’ll see.

Looking forward to it even more now!

bj, that’s what I’m thinking, and obviously the economics of continually renting rather than owning are a factor here.

GS, how old – pretty old, it’s a Burton Custom ’99 (edit, in fact it might be 1998!)! I haven’t tried anything other than it, it’s the only thing I’ve ridden since I got it. Demo, potentially but not sure. I do feel a lean towards getting something new, though good point about a sale option…

oh and we’ll probably drive, so flight cost not an issue at least on this trip.

Sam, seeing as you aren’t going to buy my Gabba linked above, though I still think you should, I will point out that there are some very decent Mavic waterproof jackets reduced to a very good price on Sport Pursuit at the moment. Worth a look.

^^^ to be fair, that is a calculated approach as you can guarantee that if you do deviate one way or the other, so will the person you’re running towards, and you’ll wipe them out… safer, within the confines of politeness and civility of course, to keep going straight and hope they work it out…

So I got to take the Gabba out for a test-spin this morning for the first time, in biblical downpours… I’m impressed, I knew it wasn’t going to be waterproof so wasn’t surprised when the rain started to seep through after a while, but it’s impressive how nice and comfortable and warm it is even when damp, lovely bit of kit. I can see what the fuss is about now!

gatsby, I’ll let you know when I have given them a testing. It was a choice between those and offerings from Chapeau and Phew, both of which look interesting. I may well get some of these as well, as an additional layer: Phew Outer Gloves, but will hold off that for now.

Other Galibier stuff I’ve tried has been excellent, so (warm) fingers crossed…

Ok, good news – my Gabba finally arrived from Aus after protracted delivery / customs delays. And it’s a perfect fit.

Extra bit of good / bad news, I appear to have inadvertently ordered 2 so I have an extra one which I don’t need. Splitting the cost of the two jerseys and the customs charges, they work out as £120 each so if someone wants a new, bagged large blue long-sleeved Gabba 2 for £120 + postage let me know. Have gone through this same winter-wear sole searching this very evening, having been reminded on a chilly early morning ride today just how annoying crap gloves is… Have ended up taking a punt on these: Galibier Barrier II[/url].

Hoping they’re as good as they claim them to be, not extortionate if it turns out they’re not great. I’d love this to be the end of my seemingly eternal quest for warm hands, though.
