That’s great advice, thanks – good point about the RAM. The key difference between the two is that the Lenovo is an A1 refurb is the HP is brand new. I would rather get something nice and shiny and new than risk it turning up and looking scruffy / having a shite battery life… probably go for the HP on that basis. Ta.

Actually while we’re on that headset, I have the same one in my roadbike and want to get a blingier one for no reason other than that I’m a tart. Anyone know if CK do a version for that size/standard – I’m finding it hard to navigate the world of such things.

On this, I am looking for a new laptop for my wife, and have been focusing solely on the Intel i[x] processors. I have noticed this as a decent possibility: Lenovo Thinkpad X1

but then also noticed this: HP 745 G2

which fits all the requirements and is also quite a bit cheaper than what we’ve been looking at, i.e. reasonable RAM, smallish form so quite light, and a smallish SSD. However, it’s got the AMD processor instead – realistically, she will be using it for document work, some internet use and emailing and probably not much more. Any reason not just to plump for the HP (possibly with a RAM upgrade immediately)?

We got a used Rothan – I think from on here – for in the region of £50. It was a bit scuffed up, not that it mattered.

He absolutely loved it and it did the trick – when we moved onto the Cnoc a few months ago he was riding that within 2 hours, and now is obsessed with it. If his sister uses the Rothan, even if we didn’t get anything for it after she was done with it I wouldn’t be bothered, but in all likelihood we’ll get almost as much if not the whole amount we paid for it in the first place. :)

I spotted one of those Vitus singlespeeds in the bike storage at work – very impressed, looks really nicely thought out and put together.

Sounds lucky – I have done quite a bit of boring AOW depth diving but can’t imagine the sort of stuff you’re talking about and in those articles, I’d be terrified!

Eventually got clear only to figure out I was very likely short of deco gas by about 12 mins.

Do these have a zippy picket for keys etc?

I fancy one but HATE jackets and jerseys without a zippy pocket.

No, but the pockets are huge and very secure so it’s not an issue at all IME.

I have the non-convertible long sleeved one, I’m almost identical measurements to you and it’s perfect (and awesome).

edit – sorry, should have pointed out that I have a large!

Large will be spot on for you.

I was going to say gearmechhanger as well – when my bike wasn’t listed on their site I sent a pic of the old one and they quickly pointed me in the right direction for what I needed. In fact I had to get another replacement for the same bike yesterday, and it was dispatched about 20 mins after ordering. Good shop.

Not British, but Legend has to be worth a look nevertheless – a guy I was riding with in Aus had one, absolutely beautiful bike. I was very tempted in a never (or at least not for a while) going to happen kind of way…

Added bonus of a trip to Italy as well!

Sorry, just noticed the bit about the bikes – no idea as we weren’t with bikes, but there’s no way you’d have fitted 4 in the room we had!

Did this on the way back from snowboarding a few weeks ago. Stopped at Ibis Cathedrale, it was perfect – very close to the main road, very short walk to the cathedral and the square with lots of nice restaurants. Our room was a decent double and a double sofa bed so provided kids are happy with that it will be perfect. Can’t remember how much we paid but it was very good value, and included continental breakfast which was ideal.

Tip – don’t bother parking in their carpark, there’s a decent one right across the road from the hotel and if your timing works out ok you won’t even have to pay for it.

Couldn’t you just use the company name and kind of work round using it too much, e.g. “[x] has been active in the sector for x number of years with previous projects including blah blah blah”… that type of thing – so don’t use “we” or “I” at all?

Actually that’s a good point about going to Oakley – they have done good things for me in the past with damaged glasses. Cheers.

Sounds pretty promising about Revant, then – ta. I was looking at them but a bit hesitant as reviews on Amazon of their lenses suggest quite distorty lenses and the coatings come off quite quickly – you guys haven’t found those issues by the sounds of things?

If you’re interested, stick a camel camel camel alert on them – they’ll come down again.

I broke one of mine snowboarding on Tuesday the week before last, i.e. 12 days ago. Riding to work and back last week wasn’t great, but managed to get out for three hours on the road bike today and it was ok – painful over bumps and I can’t breathe a full inhalation – probably only to about 80% capacity – but it was manageable.

Not sure if the recommend was directed at me or the OP but, either way, Whitewall looks good for printing my pano – cheers. Can’t work out if getting it printed and framed by them will be more cost effective than trying to find someone local who would also frame it. Good site though. TheDTs – do you do similar pano type printing?

Might I interject at this juncture, to ask if anyone knows a good place for getting panoramas printed? I have one of a recent ski trip that I want go get printed and framed as a present for my sister, it’s roughly 5:1 ratio. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Yes Jacob this years Defy, exactly the same one you have.
I’ve read nothing but positive reviews of the Hunt wheels, here and elsewhere.
My Dad got some of the Hunt all season disc wheels for his new bike and they are absolutely lovely, I’m very jealous – very premium feel to them, and perfect spec on all components. They also come as boxed with all the kit to fit either disc standard on them – definitely recommended.

I’m looking to rebuild my Pompetamine wheels, which will need to be very strong to cope with cargo carrying, and disc only. I have spotted the Stan’s Grail, but noted yesterday the Pacenti SL25, which is what I think I will go for – those built up with strong and not too light spokes on decent value hubs would be indestructible, I’d have thought…

in all likelihood, no matter what anyone says or types in reply, the way to get natural and fast at the course is to ride it as many times as possible – once you’ve ridden it a few hundred times you’ll know how to do it!

I’ve just pre-ordered the Sasha release, sounds like it might arrive any day on the pre-order. I will let you know my thoughts when it gets here.

Yes it is very good IMO, plenty to see – loads of interesting bikes with history and good detail about each, as well as quite a bit of paraphernalia as well. Definitely worth a look.

The points scoring system, I would imagine, was an attempt at making a fair assessment of someones physical ability in relation to thier disability.

No, that’s how it was described and how GO would like it to be viewed. The reality is that it is an incredibly transparent and cynical mechanism for cutting the amount being paid out without any consideration or dignity for the members of society in the firing line.

It is and always has been completely outcome driven, meaning that the people previously getting the benefits are now at the mercy of an arbitrary threshold they may or may not meet.

Stumpyjon made some good points but instead you seem to want to riducule him

Possibly, but whether he did or didn’t, he definitely did say

there will be many diasable people who get far too much and only have themselves to blame for their situation

, which is quite an inflammatory thing to hear for anyone who, like I and clearly many people engaging on this thread, knows one or many disabled people directly exposed to the brunt of the cuts in question.

theflatboy

Personally I would prefer to pay more tax than for cuts to corporation tax and CGT to happen at the same time as cuts to disability benefits.

Increase in personal allowance, with no increases on fuel etc. Means those on lower incomes should be better off. Exactly the type of policy that Labour would traditionally support.

I have Canadian citizenship,
What left wing utopia do you expect to find there, as it has lower rates of tax than the UK.

They’re going in the right direction, IMO…

2. Raise Taxes on the Wealthy
The Liberals also promised a tax hike for Canada’s top 1% to pay for a tax cut for the country’s middle class. It means that anyone who earns over $200,000 would see a tax hike of around 4%, while those earning between $44,701 and $89,401 would see a cut of around 1.5%, according to the Globe and Mail.

The tax hike on the rich stems partially from Trudeau’s criticism of the Conservatives’ taxation policy. Over the course of the elections, he frequently accused Harper’s government of favoring tax cuts for the rich and big corporations over regular Canadians.

Not in your shoes, but I would have thought a Thule 561 would be a decent option?

theflatboy

Agreed… just reading summary of it again to check I haven’t imagined it…

* reductions in higher rate tax,
* increase in tax free entitlement,
* reduction in Capital Gains Tax,
* reduction in Corporation Tax,
* cuts to disability benefits.

Nope, it still definitely says all that… disgraceful. Oh, and that’s not even mentioning the Academies… I have Canadian citizenship, thinking now might be the time to cash in and move there instead…

I seem to have trouble with the overlapping bit that the plug secures in the bar.

This is the bit I always have issues with too, I can never get it neat enough to satisfy my neatness tendencies – I have never checked if I’m just being overly critical of my own efforts or if all efforts look similar, but I don’t think I’ve done a single wrap to date I’m totally happy with in that respect. :(

theflatboy

I find it a very satisfying job to do and quite enjoyable. I have never tried a wrap starting at the middle and working to the bottom, but I may do next time, just to see how it compares.

Ah – it’s extra 20% off clearance, rather than sale items.
