Nope, that weekend I shall mostly be riding with Eddy Merkcx, near Verona.

Well at least you’re ahead of the curve this year!

Yep – I hadn’t expected it at all, it seemed to most overwhelm people driving other, slower Audis

I was recounting this to my Dad while we were stopped at the lights (I was driving). He didn’t know what I was talking about, but got the idea when with perfect timing the TT that had been behind us floored it and cut us up when the lights turned green. :D

Just remembered this thread, coincidentally around the day it started my Dad called and told me he was getting an RS4. Went out in it for the first time last weekend, and he leant it to me to drive to Birmingham and back – not bad!

Have always wanted an RS6 due to obvious combo of performance and load carrying, the RS4 didn’t disappoint – nice and docile and comfortable at low speed and in traffic, goes like a monster when the road’s clear and you put your foot down. Loved it!

(did notice particularly on the motorway a massive increase in the number of people getting a bit carried away coming up behind / passing it – a side of driving it I hadn’t expected!)

Some very useful info on here, thanks chaps. I think I’ll look at making some custom ones with the tape and the tape knots – that should do the trick and with the weight on them they should stay tight.

A regular loop sling does work perfectly, and I personally don’t find it too difficult to get into position, loop round and reattach. The problem is that the area it’s going under, round and back up is quite tight, so we were wondering if there’s a way to slim down and reduce the amount of fabric being fixed in place.

That might actually work, I’ll take a look thanks.

whitestone, cheers I’ll take a look. martin I did do that and its working fine, it’s just a bit fiddly with the extra run of tape getting in the way when it’s all clipped together.

Cheers chaps, useful info on here.

They’re for a hoist which lifts a wheelchair in and out of a car, to connect from the karabiners on the hoist round a part of the frame and back up – whatever I use has to be strong enough (as mentioned probably only up to around 20kg on each side), resistant to abrasion and catching on bits of the frame, thin enough to easily be dropped between the frame and the wheels and looped back round and with permanent loops rather than knots which could loosen over time.

Rusty, that type of thing is perfect in terms of function, but not really thin and flexible enough.

I’ll have another think, but good info on here thanks.

Edit – total length from eye to eye needs to be around 50cm.

cheese – ta, meant to say that. I originally was looking at climbing type retailers without much luck, and you’re right about intended use.

muppet, interesting, that reflects what I’ve found so far!

whitestone, ta I’ll take a look.

I know some (younger than me, unsurprisingly – my clubbing days appear to be well behind me) people going to the reopening tonight and can therefore shockingly confirm that there will be at least some people attending on drugs… 8O

I was unsure until the bit about pow-wows. Now I’m on the colleague’s side – I’m going to start only referring to pow-wows at work from now on. :)

Galibier’s didn’t work out for me last winter, not sure if it’s because they were a little too tight or not. I have just got some GripGrab gloves which I’m pinning my hopes on this year, but feel like I need a liner to improve things.

What fabric are people preferring for their liners? Merino, silk, other?

I don’t think so, but it had crossed my mind it could be something other than a mouse. It sounds quite mousey in the noise it’s making during the night but that is all I’m going on at the moment it must be said!

While we’re on this – not for the first time there is mouse suspicion in my house. However, for the first time this is in the roof cavity above our bedroom, which is under a sloping roof and has no meaningful access.

Difficult to establish how it’s got / getting in there, and no space for accessing to trap. The only entry point of any kind to the space (unless I cut into the ceiling which I may well!) is through the five LED light fitting holes in the ceiling. Any suggestions on what to do are most welcome!

considering what they’re actually getting them to do!

Nobody is obliged to build a line over that gap!!

Of course not, you know what I mean though!

After Crash Reel events like that make me wince a lot generally, it’s pretty amazing they can run the event considering what they’re actually getting them to do!

    From here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/anyone-know-how-to-roll-back-garmin-software

Download the firmware version you want here: http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/
Rename the file as gupdate.gcd, then copy it into the Garmin folder on the Edge.
Then unplug it from the computer, and switch it on, and it should install that firmware.

Worked fine for mine the other day, pretty quick and painless.

It doesn’t need to be raining for mine to behave like that (or worse)

It actually was a lot better, yep – first time for about four months with no “Route Calculation Error” within metres of setting off, and actually turn-by-turn directions worked for the whole route, which is also pretty rare! So yep, will be sticking with 2.7 for now, great suggestion. :D

Any other suggestions – the only bit we really need is input pre-contract on issues, and possible remedial work as part of a refurb, so as long as they know what they’re talking about for now and don’t rip us off that’s the main thing!

Cannot recommend our Revo Superconnect enough, it’s a fantastic bit of kit and the sound is amazing. Out of budget, though… worth a look on ebay – they have a direct “refurb” sales outlet on there.

edit – hmmm, a bit more out of budget than i’d remembered… probably a no go

    On the subject of windscreens…

My wife’s Fiesta has one of those heated windscreens that defrost quickly, I don’t

I believe it’s a Ford owned / licensed conecpt, i.e. many / most Fords have it, only other cars that do have licensed from Ford and are expensive. Your car must not be good enough. :(

My colleague’s stuff going over the border between our two desks and onto my desk. Particularly when I come back from a meeting / holiday and his stuff isn’t just over the border it is, in fact, just on my desk.

STW group buy, for timeshare bike holiday home ftw?
Only about 10p each. In fact SingleTrack should buy it and raffle it off.

Good idea – £100 each, just over a thousand people needed and the winner gets a house!

Likewise, and no problem having and playing music on and from a micro SD – as above, just tell it where to look for the music and you’re done basically.
