Super stuff, thanks all for the pointers – you have achieved some slight clarity in my otherwise foggy mind!

ad – that Asus one was exactly the one I was about to ask about, as it seems to be a mid level option but better than basic. I think I may just get that one, can get it Amazon Primed over in time for tomorrow!

That’s pretty much the conclusion I’ve reached, though I’m well outside my limited understanding…!

So, if we make the not-out-of-the-question leap to me being a simple bumbling idiot, can someone just tell me what I need to buy?! 😀

That’s really helpful, thanks. According to info I’ve found, though, I don’t think my router does have the right connection – let’s cut to the chase, it’s this one:

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/DGND3300_SM_1Jun09.pdf (see page 9!)

I do appreciate this help, by the way 🙂

Wow – that would be fantastic, the guy who attended to do the install insisted that we should have got a different router, which threw me as I am totally out of touch with the setup – as above, assumed it would all just work with the router I already have. I’m fine to setup the router, I did it with our previous broadband and have all the details from Zen, so hopefully it will work!

Thanks very much, fingers crossed for later!

I’m not at home, but according to the discussion I had a while ago with the missus I believe so.

Got it through Zen, there were a few routers available when ordering at different prices and I erroneously opted for none of them as I am a bit behind the times, so thought I was all sorted. 😳

The Edge Touring works pretty well for this. It is not perfect and has some annoying foibles but in the main does that job well.

If that’s preferable then go for it, if you want more of a challenge I’d say go for two days…

Plenty of charity rides doing it in 24 hours. I actually looked at one last night strangely. It’s ‘only’ 280 miles.

    yeah, that too…

sandwicheater – for the record, having recently done a self-organised L2P in three days, it is quite easy and gives you loads of time off the bike on each day. If that’s preferable then go for it, if you want more of a challenge I’d say go for two days…

Ride with GPS has a useful search feature that I have used in the past to identify routes as a starting point. e.g. search for rides starting in Manchester with keyword London gives these two:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5325281
    http://ridewithgps.com/trips/3409454

Probably worth a look to give you some ideas…

I’d get some of these – if you really want them to last forever at that price get two or three sets. 🙂

Probably a bit risky as I imagine first-time brakers are pretty “on / off”, rather than experts in modulation – safer to start with the back, I’d have thought?

That bike just keeps getting more awesome, and me more jealous! So cool. 🙂

On the above, the internet definitely appears to be heading down a route of restriction and censorship which is counter to one its founding tenets. I have just switched away from Sky (which I only ended up with as they acquired Be) partly for this reason, to an ISP that at least for now doesn’t block any website access.

It does look weird – the back wheel seems to touch the ground stationary and yet then contact again and pull the whole thing round… quite odd.

We had one recently. Humane “rocker” traps out for a week, no mouse. Inhumane Little Nipper traps out for one hour, mouse caught.

Although caught isn’t the right word – it was critically injured but not caught and managed to escape back down the gap into the underfloor crawl space. I then had to go down with a headtorch and a hammer to find and finish it off – fun! 😆

As an SMax owner i am required by STW law to say that it is the best. However, in this case, it is.

I’m with you on all three points there.

o btw i was having atleast x1 chain snap on very ride before

If you’re snapping a chain on every ride, there’s something more fundamentally wrong somewhere.

Whichever shimano chain is on the best special offer, IME.

Do those sonic repellant things actually work? We may need one for cat / fox reasons also…

I wouldn’t accept the shop’s response, personally. I had (and in fact still have) a dishwasher that required repairs after 22 months of its life totalling 1/3 of the price we paid for it. I kept on at the shop and gave them a deadline to cough up before I took it to the small claims court. Lo and behold on the last day of the deadline they gave me the money.

There are quite a few consumer sites that will give you all the information you need to go back to them and quote the relevant Sale of Goods Act information. I would have thought you will get them to see your side of things, personally.

Thanks, chaps – the SJS one is pretty much the best option I’d found, reckon I’ll go with that one. I’ll let you know how it pans out, I do think it will need a hole drilling in the fork, from memory…

I got a couple of seats from them in separate orders, both good price and both turned up fine. Can’t complain.

I do have one a bit like that, but the bag ends up quite tall with all my stuff in so it won’t clear the top. Hence I’m thinking better to clear the underneath instead…

    theflatboy

ww – the bag does have a fabric loop for a light, but I can’t think of a good way of attaching the front light to it where it would point the right way and be secure…

    mol – that’s discouraging!

edit – I do have a pannier ordinarily, the barbag is the solution to the clash between pannier and childseat, to avoid having to carry a bag on my body!

    1. There’s no way that’s actually happening.

    2. You could put small blob of nail polish or similar on the barrel adjusters, and take photos of the mech position(s) when you leave the bike, then compare when you return to it.

    3. There’s no way that’s actually happening.

You mention Alonso, he seems to flatter every bit of machinery he is given, bet he gets round the supermarket with a wonky wheeled trolley no problem at all. I am not a big fan, but he stands out to me as as one of the greats.

If only there was a season where Alonso and Hamilton were on the same team, so we could compare their ability in identical cars…

For backup purposes, Backblaze is half that price, unlimited and nicely automated. You can still use the free Dropbox space for sharing large files.

Hand saw.Your all mad.I fit loads of kitchens.Circular saw you mad folk.
Cut the work top upside down so so it doesn’t chip the work surface.
Jobs a goodun. You can even use a the width guage if you not that good with one.

Where are you based and when you say “fit”, are you talking bespoke design and install or installations of prefab?

Watch doesn’t have to be new, either – you could get something very nice from Chrono24 for that money in virtually as new condition.

Edit – beaten to it, it seems…

I thought Thomson were liked because their stuff just worked? My black Thomson seatpost and black Thomson stem are just black with their logo. They do a good job.
Is there a Thomson range I’ve not seen that is all glitter and hip 80s logos and colours?

Agreed – understated looks and no doubt they’ll be strong and quite light. Sounds good to me.

Slight thread revival – that Anti Gravity Jump Starter, does anyone know a good price for one or an alternative in the UK, as they’re massively pricier in the UK compared to the States, and I’m also not sure if the mains charger would be UK-compatible.

I’d like to get one as a present for someone, you see.

The best first move would be to get a lawyer to look over the lease in detail and see if there is anything in it that would give you room for maneouvre.
