they ought to make bars, really – the tooling can’t be any harder if as hard as their stems and posts.

i find the benefits of rigidity and strength in something that supports most of my bodyweight a lot of the time fairly tangible.

you say that from a position of never having owned one. i got one for my previous bike and hadn’t realised how flexy and shit every seatpost i’d ever owned had been up to that point.

both my bikes now have them, and indeed my posh bike has a masterpiece.

i was wrong about the event – it’s actually somewhere completely different, so that’s good! still looking forward to it :o

just suggesting that for a bike jersey it looked like they couldn’t spell… bike.

apologies for poor punning and the already limited humour now being completely removed by the need for an explanation

the other problem with things like cameras is that such things draw a lot of attention to the value of stuff being kept somewhere. by the sounds of things they’re targetting deliberately identified locations, though, i suppose.

i had an on-one twelfty on my scandal when i got it. it lasted about 4 months and then bent after a not-that-hard sketchy impact.

replaced it with a thomson, fit and forget reassurance ever since.

my gf’s parents live in slaithwaite so, while i won’t be turning up and forcing myself on your hospitality, i would be very interested in a simplish rundown of some decent bike routes round that way as her dad is very into his general mountaineering and i’m trying to get him more into biking. sounds like a good weekend!

also a big fan of the riverhead!

The PACT targets for my area are all to do with parking and drug dealing.

There’s a very high concentration of nice bikes in Bristol, and while you get your usual opportunists I think a lot of theft-to-order goes on too. We’re still third in the bike theft stats behind London and Kingston-on-Thames, although that ain’t saying much.

third by volume or by amount of thefts/breakins per person/household?

well time was of the essence, so i did it all online. went through the M&S app process and when it got to the bit where i declared the more expensive bike it said they would not insure a bike of that value. so i gave up at that point.

ING was pretty straightforward and seemed like good cover so went with that instead.

have a look here for others’ views: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/topend-bike-insurance-specific-or-on-home-contents

(and M&S sounded promising but wouldn’t cover one of my bikes)

i only ever wear 3/4 tights and longsleeved lycra tops in cold weather and never anything waterproof. even in winter i get too hot in anything more than that, but my ride’s only 7 miles/around 20-25 mins so a quick blast.

i just had to change mine because of new bike that’s worth… er… more than £4000…

switched to ING, was pretty good value and automatic cover of £70,000 contents. including two high value bikes was about £380 per year.

whereaboouts do you live? i know a very good gas safety firm, but they’re london based so may be of no use. having said that, i wouldn’t be surprised if they’d give you a reassurance over the phone…

that’s the problem with the instant-gratification society of today, nobody wants to put any effort in they just expect to get things like grid references handed to them on a forum.

saddles are an irritating thing to purchase, until you find one that suits. they’re not exactly cheap and you have no way of knowing how you’ll get on with a particular model until you try it. annoying stuff.

i’ve got a WTB rocket v slt on my new bike, and thus far it seems very good. not done any really long rides as yet, though.

nice one. just been looking on the site, though, and looks like there’s some sort of event going on there at easter. will have to check if that will impact on normal trail use…
