I wasn’t expecting to really do much big riding this year… thinking that the Dunwich Dynamo will be a nice one month to go warm-up for this, now 🙂

    I don’t remember entering it this year, got a letter yesterday saying I’ve got a place… 😕

    Oh well, more training awaits!

sc – Nice one, I can’t find an original one anywhere anyway, so I’m going to take your word for it… Cheers 8)

Cheers, they have a couple of options for my laptop so sounds positive – can you promise I’m not going to burn the house down? 😀

Isn’t it mandatory in this day and age for the word “hack” to appear at least somewhere in thread title / OP?

Edit – crap joke and beaten to it by an hour as well 😳

It’s interesting how little love there is for the Kaff in here – I have a Pompetamine, which I’ve always assumed to be basically the same as a Kaff but SS. I genuinely do love it – it gets used all the time and variously copes with panniers, childseat, heavy loads and sometimes none of the above. It’s ace as well, and really nice to ride…

Surely you want a London Road?

You can get a ”Very Good” condition Xperia Z1 Compact from Amazon Warehouse at the moment for £179 – if you select which one from the options there (i.e. top choice on the linked page) you can get one that’s basically in brand new condition. Very good price considering the spec even compared to more recent phones + the right sort of size for what she’s after.

wolfenstein – a guy I used to work with has recurring bouts of chronic pneumonia linked to a similar thing which he managed to do with an iceaxe – count yourself lucky!

I’d love to do one but doubt I ever will. If I did, however, I’d be sure to run at least two if not three GPS trackers just to be on the safe side!

Cougar – interesting one and thanks – I’m never show how bikey a thread has to be to go in the bike forum. It’s quite a nuanced distinction at times.

    TP – yes, fair point!

it will probably still be out by just enough to make the gears a complete pain to get anything like acceptable.

That was my assumption too, to be honest.

It’s a silver one, and it’s one of these. If it breaks I won’t have lost out as I’m going to have to replace it anyway, but as mentioned I’m not quite sure the economics work if the replaceable mech hanger costs almost as much as a new (105) mech!

    Yes correct – alloy replaceable.

Just saw that in the other thread. Would be more transparent to have stated that and closed the thread, IMO – deleting it just looks like strings were pulled to cover it up…

If you’re not planning on removing all the bloated Samsung “additions” to Android, I would definitely say Nexus. (As a Nexus owner, Samsung phone owner and having used a few different Samsung Android devices.)

stumpy, our Flip2 is only used portably. It charges off a micro USB same as our phones, so goes with us on holidays for use in hotels, apartments, holiday cottages etc. It is fab, an impressive little device that is small enough to easily transport but a surprisingly big sound.

Quick PSA – there’s a Flip2 on Amazon Warehouse for £46, very good price for such a little gem! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00G34DFYK

After reading Julia Donaldson’s ‘Stick Man’ to our wee lad last night I had expected this to be child book based.

Me too! I’m the Stickman, I’m the Stickman! 😀

Assume there is plenty there that has been installed by others, but that the criteria for this attempt require that they only use what they place?

I understood that the point of “free climbing” as they’re undertaking it is that the ropes only catch them if they fall – if they do fall, they have to revert back to the start of that pitch rather than carry on from where they are hanging. So ropes are a lifesaver, not any sort of artificial aid (aside from pulling gear up).

Caveat – I know almost nothing about climbing, I just read an article about this yesterday…

Fuel consumption difference are huge. I get about 60 mpg at 80 ish no bikes, drops to late 30’s with bikes

You use 1.5x the normal amount of fuel due to bikes on the roof? Sounds unlikely…

Before Xmas I got an N64 emulator running on my laptop, using the PS3 controller. That + Mario Kart and Goldeneye = best train journey up north for Christmas ever. 🙂

It’s not that complicated – I have a son, my cousin’s just had a daughter. My cousin’s daughter is my first cousin once removed. His daughter and my son are second cousins.

Another here for Flip2 – it is fantastic for the size and price, very impressive.

I should point out that it was thanks to someone on here recommending camel camel camel that I got it for £50 – bit of patient waiting!

^^^ Not the DDA anymore, all covered by the Equality Act 2010. Which also defines what a disability is in connection with duration etc. I can’t remember what it actually says, though…

edit – assuming England, of course.

Further edit – https://www.gov.uk/definition-of-disability-under-equality-act-2010. Your subject more than likely doesn’t fit the definition of disabled, so the Act won’t apply specfically to that person. More generally, though, there could still be issues concerning general access being provided.

Don’t use mine for offroad routing but for on-road I use RidewithGPS to plan and save routes, exporting as GPX Track. Works fine like that.

For the mapping changes, you can always backup everything from the device itself to your computer before deleting, and restore it if you have any problems. From memory the unit itself allows you to specify which maps it uses, without you necessarily having to delete the others.
