Galibier also do some which look very good, was looking recently although didn’t get them in the end – may still as reckon a non padded pair over a padded pair would have been welcome this morning in the freezing cold!

Continental GP5000 TL for me, lovely tyres – had Sector 28 before, horrible tyres.

Please can we have a pompeTImine… And also I need a new fork for my steel Pompetamine, where the rotor bolts don’t rub on the bottom of the leg… Thanks.

And yeah my previous experiences of the Isle of Skype route put me off wanting to do it at that time of day!

Just noticed the autocorrect my phone’s gone for there

Thanks people, at the moment (I’m starting in Slawit) , I’m looking at over the top of Pole Moor, round the top to Denshaw then Delph then Springhead, then towards crazy’s route from Dukinfield. Will look at all your suggestions this eve though. Cheers.

Thanks guys, would rather go road than canal plus isn’t there a slight tunnel situation at Marsden?!

Will see about getting my kicks on Route 66, but by all means other suggestions about traffic avoidance would be useful.

I got one too, got it a few weeks ago, only had a chance to put 125 miles on it so far, but I love it. I went Ultegra Di2, it’s a beauty. :)

And MrB – agreed, the redundant cable stops on it are the only thing that really bugs me!

I put my M970 SPDs onto my winter road bike a few weeks back for a multi-day tour when I figured the MTB shoes would be nicer for the off the bike times. There was much less of a difference in using them, and we covered 300 miles, than I expected. To the extent that I haven’t got round to taking them off again yet. If you want MTB SPDs on it, just do it.

I personally wouldn’t switch from Schwalbe One to GP4000S, Ones are preferable and much more durable – particularly towards end of life – in my experience.

Edit – by durable, by the way, I actually mean susceptibility to punctures. I have got around thousands of miles out of the Ones currently on my bike, and don’t recall a single puncture on them. The (several pairs of) GP4000s that preceded them were a very different story, particularly once they were a bit worn.

“Deceptively”, but mainly because there is no accepted consensus on what it actually does mean. Using it is deceptively risky.

Also got a 7GB SIM only deal for £4.50/mth with unlimited texts and calls.

Who with? – my SIM deal is £12 with less data than that!

    Fairlight Faran?

I’m getting more and more inclined to opt for a Fairlight Strael quite soon as a winter bike, so have been spending quite a bit of time perusing their website!

People after a link, I read it all here – http://www.eurosport.com/cycling/blazin-saddles-bradley-wiggins-slams-rubbish-marginal-gains_sto6106372/story.shtml – which hits a pretty perfect tone of sardonic digs at Wiggins throughout the article, IMO.

Very nice carbon disc Scott in Evans yesterday, 2016 model not sure which one

Edit – this one. Looked pretty tasty for the money, if that’s the type of thing you’re after.

TGO – ta, that actually sums up the loose thought process I’d been working on, it just occurred to me that if the Keos are significantly different forwards or backwards that approach might not work. But you’re right about the latter point. Cheers!

Ok, I’m not in the market for any – I just need some help with the cleat positioning please!

    theflatboy

Ok, that’s what I’m anticipating… still need to get them set up, mind!

Ha, good thinking – the slight complication I have is that I don’t have the bike in question, or in fact the pedals themselves, to hand… I’m riding a Look Keo equipped track bike at the Velopark next week, and it was as cheap to get some cleats and use my own lovely shoes with cleats as it would be to hire the shoes when I’m there, so I decided to add unnecessary complication to my life by going for that option. And now I’m committed to it so will see it through, goddamnit. :)

See what you mean about money for Layhams, though – hadn’t realised it was that much!

Agreed on 4S, agreed on Layhams but disc version on the way may well be the route I go for – see this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BQwGRovD9J7/

    And agreed about Shand!

Yep did quick edit – meant Pilgrims, not Palace!

    theflatboy

Yep, right now I’m thinking that, Bowman Pilgrims (or maybe Layhams disc which is on the cards) or Kinesis 4S. Maybe a Mason.

Don’t have the cash right now, but hoping to get sorted pre-next winter.

Me too – I’m thinking of getting a disc winter bike and am considering one of those, has a lot going for it.

I’ve always specified that every time I applied and it didn’t seem to make any difference.

That’s interesting – I have no inside knowledge, just making an assumption on distribution curve of entrants and what I assume makes up a smaller proportion of entrants’ responses to the entry form.

dunno, i bet i’m not alone in being glad mobile phones and the associated ability to record & share everything, for ever wasn’t around when I was younger and stupider.

You’re not. Many many incidents spring to mind! 8O

It says clearly on their website that it’s not a fully random process. They shape it based on estimated completion time and preferred starting time, partly to make it a spread of ability and partly to make logistics easier at the start and the end. So if you put an ultrafast estimate and a first wave you’re clearly much more likely to get a place than if you put a middling finish time and a later start time.

If people really want a place it would appear there’s nothing to stop you manipulating your chances based on that information.

I’ve done it once, in 2015, and as far as I can recall that was the only year I tried for a place. And for the record, it was one of the best times I’ve ever had on a bike, flawless organisation and a great day all in all.
