wheel compresses as it flexes spokes bow out enough to catch bottom of your mech = end of the line for your rear mech :o

left stantion always wears first according to my lbs due to braking forces on the leg rather than lack of maintenance

Use co2 inflator for the initial seating of the tyre (it goes up instantly), leave for 10 mins then take valve out (careful you dont pull bead off rim) add sealant, replace valve and it should inflate easily with your track pump.

will try to be there :-)

This was what I was thinking. Although could do with a little less road?

here is my 2 pence worth… A Hayfield loop would cut the roadwork out and we could still do rushup and chapel gate.

if you wanted a longer route you could extend a loop out over chinley churn too

They work up to a point…

if its raining you'll still get wet feet if you are in shorts

your feet will be warm* if you have shoes a size bigger than normal
*unless its getting close to zero

one pair of mine appears to have shrunk after being on a hot radiator

mine have become leaky after 2 winters and wont make a third

download the pdf maps from http://www.mbwales.com/

if time is tight do the dragons back route, its a fair bit quicker and if when you reach the 'beginning of end' (the last bit of the route) you have some daylight head up 'brutus' to do 'cain, abel & false teeth'. this does mean another slog up the forest track to reach 'the beginning of the end' tho.

do the beast but miss the long loop (top right on map & waste of time IMO) after the cafe stop half way round , by going straight up the steep road, join forest track and look for the adams family on your left.

CyB holds up really well in the wet, have fun!

Are you sure Rich? The cafe at the bottom of Lantern Pike is in Birch Vale.

I find the liner (once clicked in) stops the outers falling down – rather than relying on the shyte belt provided.

Cheers everyone that was a really great day. Enjoyed meeting new faces not that I'll be much good with names! The ride had all the right ingredients (much like the cakes) great route, excellent organisation, good company, a mid ride pub stop and cakes too. Fab! (and some good photos too!) :D

Me and my riding buddies love it, we always have a good day when we make the trip. Its the best trail centre in England IMO. Like has been said elsewhere start by the shop and the last 3rd is prob the best (after the long forest road yomp).

Love the panini's at the cafe too. :D

isnt the run time only an hour at best though?

easy to swap battery at half time tho, and its nice not to have any wires either. It has a more focused beam than the dedicated BX bike light making it ideal for a helmet light – Only downside is the 220g weight of the thing.

I have bought a few pairs from them with no problems, one pair was broken on arrival and a new pair arrived next day.

trail centre would have to be the "Loch of the Lowes" section at Kirroughtree

natural, probably cut gate from the cairn all the way down to North America Farm, nothing finer on a warm summer evening :D

The new trails are ok as far as they go and woodland singletrack is one of my favourite types of riding, but they just seem like a wasted opportunity IMO, and no surface to the singletrack in most places means a week of rain like the last one turns 50% into a quagmire

Lucas: No it wasn't us last night at the pub, I didn't make last night 1st one I've missed for months :( but it would be good to see in the future.

Pook you and the Haddock are always welcome :-)

the statue urinals would be in keeping with the gay bordello look!

I tend to ride Pines (most wednesdays meeting in the Pub car park at 6ish) you are welcome to tag along as we try to avoid the worst of the filth, we know the place fairly well even in darkness, we usually do between 10 – 15 miles and aim to be back at the pub for 8.30

Now, one more question – what's with the Dog and Duck? Bit, erm, garish isn't it?

good food from a "wanna be" gastro pub but its a bit ott re the decor, just the landlord expressing his 'taste'. I always feel a bit underdressed going in for a beer post ride n caked in the brown stuff

IMO you should find a popular or new trail centre without a shop and open up there, opportunities for sales, repair, bike hire, cafe…

    Re car parking…
Dog and Duck was really busy last week and we struggled to get parked.

If you park in Pines check what time the gates are being locked, 6pm most nights now clocks have gone back.

Re off camber, for manmade trails they really are poor. I know it will never compare to welsh or scottish trail centres (or even Dalby) but I was at cannock a week or two back and it just made me feel what a wasted opportunity Pines was. I seem to come off my bike more in Pines than I ever do in the Peaks, Lakes etc, grr!

its not a complete mud bath yet especially if you find some of the less used trails, lots of standing water though.

Some of the muddy/worst bits of the Kitchener have been patched with stone – but its all a bit half arsed.

If you've not been for a bit, watch out for a few adverse camber turns (can catch you out in the dark) where the bench cut track has fallen away into the drainage channel – the FC obviously didn't check the berms tick box when they comissioned clixbys :(

hope you've got your mud tyres Pook!

I'm not out tonight but the lads I normally ride with leave from the dog and duck pub between 6.15 / 6.25, The pines lads tend to leave from the shop a bit later so you should be able to find them.

I had the same thought when I saw the mbr piccy!

I have been running tubeless for 2 years, exclusively using stans sealant, found it really good at resisting drying out so will prob stick with that for the time being.

Given the numbers of people using Stan's and similar, if there were a widespread delamination issue, don't you think it would have become slightly more obvious by now?

I have had one tyre delaminate on me (Specialized Captain S-works), I'd had it about 8 months. I noticed a few 1cm blisters between the tread blocks so I took it back to local dealer who replaced it for me FOC. The warranty guy at Spesh did ask if i'd been using sealant though – I don't know if this suggests that they are aware of/or having issues with sealants.

the torches dont come with any batteries or chargers, whereas the bike light does.

I have run a P7 torch on my helmet from last year and only drawbacks are short runtime on high and the 228g weight on my head. it's as bright as my old hope Hid lamp, and compliments the exposure maxx-d on my bars really well.
