I was at Cannock yesterday and first circuit I had 38 f&r ( spesh Purgatory tyres tubeless on a flow rim) and the lack of grip was astounding giving me little confidence on the pebble surface, in the afternoon I dropped the pressures to 30 f&r- it was a revelation, so much more grip I felt I could attack the corners, (tyres weren’t squiming either TJ) and felt good on the jumpy bits too. Lesson learnt! IMO If you run your tyres hard it pays to have a go with less pressure .

Everybody being as helpful/obtuse as ever I see!

I think its well worth a couple of hrs in the car (especially since the Monkey Trail opened) it makes a pleasant change from the peak district IMO. If its your first time don’t worry about finding the cheeky and just do Follow the dog/Monkey trail and Im sure you’ll enjoy yourselves. It’s basically woodsy singletrack trail with a couple of slightly more downhill orientated bits on the Monkey Trail which seems to have more gradient the FTD. You’ll find some nice flowing bits, berms, few jumps and rollers, some small rock features and loads of over biked folk having fun!

Set off on the follow the dog, which starts near the bike shop, the Monkey trail starts at a mid section fork in the trail 1 section after a long fire road climb.

We usually get there fairly early (as it gets busy) and do the FTD/Monkey, get back to the main centre have a brew and then go and do it again the afternoon. enjoy

Hope do an alloy saint axle for a tenner, you need to buy a track nut for it tho.

The tarw trail does seem disappointing after the beast, it does have an abandoned feel to it, I reckon it’s the 85% forest road content that stops people revisiting it.

try Ride with gps, works well, but no os mapping but it logs your rides and total ascent and it imports and exports gpx files too

This site has lots of c2c routes to look at, the posted link is to when mbr did the route a couple of years back

Last night it was pretty waterlogged on the kitchener, less so on the less used singletrack, no real mud yet but it could be a different story after the weekend- if it gets a lot of use it will be a proper sh*tfest :-(

Binning it down here but out in sherwood pines later, it will be waterlogged no doubt but the trees keep the worst of the rain off. 8O

I run 2.35 spesh eskars front and back with no clearance issues, those advantages do blow up way oversize so I don't imagine the eskars would be much bigger.

Ride lots (regularly) of local trails, bridleways, woods, farm tracks etc to gain a feel for your bike before going anywhere steep and techy. The more you ride the faster you will go through the woods as your confidence grows. Make sure your bike is right for you too, saddle height, bar position, tyres/pressures, fork rebound etc. Finally go on a course,I can recommend Ed Oxley and his stop crashing course, best £60 I have spent on mtbing.

I like the drop into hayfield from coldwell clough is a lot of fun if a bit short, the drop into Sheffield from ringinglow is fun too not exactly single track but fast and flowy.

Got the bolt up and bolt thro options on two of my wheelsets, both give a noticable reduction in flex from the back of my fsr linkage. Prefer the bolt thro but no difference in performance IMO.

I think the boots are still available in the states if you really want the same again.

Try north Norfolk Ton, it tends to stay fairly quiet even in august, wells next the sea has a great beach and some nice pubs (not that you'd be interested in that sort of thing!) do a search for the globe at wells

Is that a formal offer of a ride from the underground/unnoficial northern chapter? What date have you in mind?

A 10 mm bolt up rear on my 07 stumpjumper made a noticable difference to the stiffness of the rear triangle. I went for the 10mm saint bolt in STD dropoupts btw. A 10mm bolt is always stronger than a thin bit of steel wire found in a qr

+ one for Macavity, as I found out in a bakers shop in Dalbeattie-poor woman behind the counter asked me where we were riding and it took her a minute or two to work out that I was trying to pronounce Kirroughtree-doh! I was using an anglicised version like awiles

Sounds like it may have become corrupt, have you tried opening it from within the suitcase by double clicking on it? Try font agent pro it handles fonts that are iffy much better than font book IMO

It's not as bad as the highlands but they were about last weekend. Didn't get bitten as I'd gone with my mate paul who acts as a midge magnet and takes all the biting action-most useful :-)

Ask a designer to do it for you, it won't be as expensive as you think and the results will be much better than you can achieve no matter what software you buy.
