    yeah, well, that’s a FP innit ?

    doesn’t normally bother you..

as for offering downloads, just makes it easier to use and saves trawling your site, plus might help with club funds

my version of vg points you along the road after the Cat Bells terrace section rather than through the woods.

Have you ever thought of publishing your routes Simon? A high res pdf download of routes might be popular for us bikers who can only get up to the lakes a few times a year and don’t have your in-depth knowledge.

carbon ones off ebay seller work well enough but don’t last any longer than XO original items (the carbon is really thin) that is even with the bearings rotating freely for their whole life. KCNC do some alloy versions for £27 that I am tempted to try

The standard ones seem like they have been slightly redesigned and top and bottom appear identical. Since buying replacements i check them after every ride, as its them not rotating freely that causes the chain to wear them out – and so far so good.

We rode the boggies route in March, it’s a great route, the technical path on the right of the road up to Watendlath is worth doing, as is the Allerdale ramble into keswick – neither of which are on the vg route. We missed the permissive path at seatoller and rode up the honister pass for the downhill and then missed where the bridleway forked so ended up nearly down to seatoller again, down wasn’t that great so look for the path in seatoller.

Been running a fox float R for two years, around five thousand miles. no problems mostly xc trail riding with peaks and lakes too. They are 120mm, not been serviced but lifted seals recently and oil still looked like new. Love em lots more than my revs on my other bike.

specialized captains here, fast rolling, cheapish £22 or less, gives good cornering bite, 2.0’s blow up to a reasonable size compared to maxis/schwalbe, 540g so not too heavy either. ok in mud too which is a must for our summers.

It must be all that static from your lycra! :D
my wireless Cateye Strada doesn’t work if I run my HID next to it on the bars, too much interference I suppose, the new hope 4 doesn’t effect it though.

specialized airtool mtb for me, lasting loads longer than topeak pumps I have owned, is quicker inflating and was only a tenner.

I’d rather climb Jacobs and then enjoy the long down to Kinder reservoir, bit of a slog the other direction for a short steep down. OS mapOL1 £7.99

SFB, it seems you had better stop riding all together – otherwise there will be no lakeland at all in years to come! What tripe! I wonder if the ancient cumbrians protested when the romans constructed high street, even after the industrialisation of the lakes – the old quarry trails that litter the fells don’t seem to of had a detrimental effect to the long term flora and fauna.

Life’s too short to get really anoyed with fellow bikers, we all share a common interest, so save yourself the agro, there are too many other groups (e.g. oap ramblers) to get wound up about methinks.

Whilst riding toward Matterdale Common the lakes last year, saw a mtb’er clambering over a stone wall out of woods with a roll of andrex in this hand, his mates reckoned it was a requirement of every ride that he went cable laying. Each to their own

I’ve got ritchey foam grips on my carbon bars, only 6 quid and they don’t slip, suck up water or soak my gloves, and are loads comfier than the lockons I had previously being using. Oh and did I mention the weight?!

its the amount of fun your having that matters, if that means a 2 hour blast fair enough but don’t worry if it takes 5 hours

    nytralube slick caramel

    sherwood pines + peaks/lakes

    2 to 6 hours

chain removed after every ride, then quick rinse, dry and left to marinate in lube til next time. i run 3 chains so just rotate useage.

Performance is very good with only the longest wettest winter peaks ride causing any undue noise in the drivetrain. I use year round without issue. Like the fact that cassette and rings don’t pick up much filth compared to wet lubes. Seems to be very runny and is best applied then chain is off the bike and in a shallow container (plastic takeaway box), it dries to a hard wax finish. Much better protection than white lightning.

991’s for me, not tried kmc but never had issues with sram chains. 991 over lesser 951 chains cos they are nickel coated on inners as well as outers so stays shiner!

the warranty will be different/non existent, travel may be customised to suit particular bike, but internals will be as boxed original. Sounds like a good deal to me

Ralph, it I waited for it to dry out would it ever be ridden? You just need to choose a line (I dont mean widening the trail either) and go for it, sorry but no guilt here!

    Prefered Route:
park at Barber booth, go up Jacobs Ladder, fast down towards hayfield, take a right (broad clough) before metal gate on BW descent to Kinder Reservoir, climb cobble path up far side onto moor over hayfield, drop into Hayfield on fast BW, ride through hayfield and head along the river towards Coldwell Clough, steep climb up to Mount Famine before a long down to Roych Clough, ride along BW picking up Rushup Edge, Mam Tor to Hollins Cross then choice of downs back to Hope/Barber Booth
