Why do we get all these warnings when actually the government could do with us all popping our clogs 5 or so years into retirement?

I'm 6'3" & 46" chest, with standard hunka and a snugpak lightweight bag I still had enough room to move around.

Got the alpkit hunka, can't belive how small it folds up especially compared to army surplus ones, it is a fair bit tighter though.

Went tubeless myself about 18 months ago using stans kits with dt 4.2 & 5.1 rims with panaracers , bonty mud x and specialized non ust tyres, it has been a really positive experience, the only real issue was inflating the tyres initially, but once you have the knack thats fine too. Suggest a compressor or co2 cartridges to take the pain out of that and a sringe from stans for adding more sealant. If you do a search on here you will see a wide variety of opinion though so I suggest only real way of telling if its for you is to give it ago.

How do you get onto North America? Start at the carpark nearest the Flouch Inn? The VGraphics book doesnt make it clear.

Park in the Reservoir car park ride out of the carpark through the gate on the left as you look at the water (signed no bikes! but its only a few yards to the gate onto the dam) and drop left to the dam. Cross the dam on road and look for BW on right as you climb up. BW goes up edge of wood and spills out near a house and garages, keep the house on right and look for snick through right between house and garage, this path takes you down to a minor road go thro farm gate on right and then follow BW eventually up to North America.
It's up to you then which path, through the gate takes you to the main cut gate path or left up the peat takes you up the classic north america descent (good for picking your lines later IMO). both paths meet at signpost on Mickleden Edge.

Have fun, it was all fairly dry last night :D

OK cheers, need a good all rounder without spending £40 a tyre in 2.2-2.4 then in that case, any suggestions ?

    Have a look at Specialized Eskar Control 2Bliss 2.35 700g £20-23.00
They blow up fairly large similar to a Nevegal 2.35, and I really like them.
I have run these tubeless for the last year on my beefier wheelset. In a year of rides in the dark peak, scottish & welsh trail centres and in the lakes in a variety of conditions have been really impressed with grip levels, longevity and how well the sidewalls have stood up to rocks, only chink in armour is sticky mud and wet root performance.

After problems with sticking pistons on my oe juicy 5's and same sticky pistons on the ultimates that replaced them, I was getting increasingly hacked off with continually stripping, cleaning, relubing and bleeding so finally took the plunge and swapped for some Hope Brakes – tech M4 front, and hopetech X2 on the back. In 4 months I have had no regrets the levers are easy to adjust for reach/bite and feel really solid, the matchmaker clamps are great despite what i'd read. the brakes feel more powerful than the Avids and have a really good feel. And original pads seem lots cheaper than the Avid oe versions too.

Baggage handling is done by a 3rd party (eg serviceair) so doesn't matter who you fly with, just need to pack carefully and have watertight insurance

Hopes offer good reliability, light weight and ability to use different axles, I also prefer cartridge bearings to the cup and cone faff of Shimano. Have a look at Lex's website they are doing hope hoops with stans rims for £250.

rode from Hathersage to Shatton Moor the BW down to Brough, never ridden it before so can't comment on trail "improvements". It was all rideable (getting steadily rougher and faster) in the direction we went but if you come up from Brough then the first steep section after the tarmac is very loose and we saw a couple of riders pushing up that.

if the stans rubber rim strip fits under the bead hook leave it on, otherwise remove it and use something thinner

For me it just makes for a more exciting bit of the xc route. Other trail centres seem to have technical features littered around the whole trail whereas Pines seems to put them all in one area.

If you can get the strip flush in the bottom of the rim then not much need to drill, but if its standing proud there could be problems on initial inflation with air rushing out around the valve. The small hole also cuts into the rimstrip where it meets the valve and on one of mine it eventually caused the valve to drop out!

Used tyres are fine but just take extra sealing, its easier first time to go for fresh rubber.

From Langsett once you've crossed the ford and slabs at the top of Mickleden Edge the new path holds up ok, but as it zig zags across the stream bed expect wet it to be wet, peaty mud doesn't get too bad until the last km to the cairn, the drops are waterlogged and I'd take a snorkel.

    fun tho! :D

Have a look at Macromedia Freehand MX, powerful and easier to use than illustrator, its development has been discontinued, but is still for sale. It was the main competition to Illustrator before Macromedia was bought by adobe.

lots of routes, but without a map and no local knowledge it could be a bit hard to find your way.

try the route from this link if you get lost its easy to navigate back

check out the bogtrotters website for sfb's maps, combined with his photos you get a good idea what your letting yourself in for. KMB is good for route advice and maps

recommend bogtrotters route from ambleside over loughrigg to elterwater > little langdale > hodge close > iron keld > elterwater > Loughrigg terrace

Blencathra in the morning and whinlatter in afternoon is a good combo too

great ride although I prefer it in the other direction.

Park in the free car park at A and do it in reverse, (over Dam and up win hill) 3 hills 3 downs allow an hour (or more) for each, and have a brew at Fairhomes half way round. Hope you've got an OS map so you don't miss any turns.
