Had a great weekend enjoying the sun in lakeland camping in Torver.
Saturday did Parkamoor & Tilberthwaite loop of Coniston route taken from the VG book, great ride although we were out longer than anticipated (partly due to us taking in the north face red to the visitor centre and getting lost and losing the BW between Blawith and Torver :(

Sunday A.M was Keswick – Threlkeld – Glenderterra – and the lovely drop back into Keswick. P.M. Catbells – Grange – Seatoller – Castle Crag – Grange – Catbells – Keswick.

60 hard miles (for me anyway) slept well last night, happy days :D

I got some lightweight carbon ones off a Hong Kong ebay seller and they lasted about 5 months (was through the winter filth tho) since then bought some KCNC ones and they have performed excellently, the alloy shows no sign of wear (after 6 months) and its easy to clean the bearings if you notice them becoming gritty.

Hope vision 4 here, good light, but wish I'd gone for the exposure as I get hacked off with the battery rattling around rubbing the anodising off my stem!

Milner from MBR rode it last year, video on youtube somewhere, when the magazine revisited Helvellyn this year they commented how dollywaggon was difficult and unrewarding and they looked for a different and faster route down.

I rode the down last year and found the combination of steep gradient, large steps and drainage channels too much. Once I had stopped (due to bottle going) found it hard to get going again.

Ultimately its probably not that severe for lots of riders, but I think it is a disappointment after the fun of the last few miles

Last year one of my riding mates started using the liners combined with slime tubes, but he had several flats where liners cut into inner tubes causing large slashes that couldn't be fixed and tyres full of green goo!

I have the Lobo and am forever wishing I'd gone for something a little larger

I've got the Mule which is fine for days out when you only need a couple of snacks and room for an extra layer, but I think I could run a bit lighter on my evening rides when I'm only out for 2 hours or so

Surfr – just go and ride/walk it, finding it isn't the hard part! and there is nothing you can read or photos that do justice to the personal challenge.

there isn't any pictures of them riding the really hard bits

this is probably to do with the photo editor designer choosing photos to suit page layout rather than mbr not riding it. Photographer will always ask riders to session certain bits, often in wrong direction for lighting purposes. Otherwise it would just be arses a la sfb.

I'm usually off within the first 30 seconds

I'm sure your dad will come around, everybody deals with things differently. The most important thing is you and Meg being strong but honest and open with each other.

Good luck mate & I hope to catch up someday on a ‘petesgaff/Mark & Meg STW ride’

The Scotgate campsite in Braithwaite is good, not big so sometimes gets full, but the best showers and loos I have ever used on a campsite, no fires tho :(. Has a cafe which does good breakfasts too. Pub is only 100yds up road which is a bonus

We ran out of light whilst searching for a 'good' bivvy spot (too long in the pub), we were aiming to use the woods above the cobbled bw as you head from the water to Whinstone Lee Tor, but they were too overgrown, ended up just a little way off the BW below Derwent Edge. To say the choice was forced on us, it was surprisingly sheltered and flat, made for a fun first section in the morning.

its the price you pay if you want to read a book? Public transport is always going to be flawed.

spesh shoes are a bit broader than shimano ones. BG trail is a much better shoe than the sport IMO, it seems to be more padded and the uppers seem to be a thicker material and compares well to the high end spesh shoes i have. I am a UK 11 and I usually go for a 47 shoe, but that is with a fairly thick sealskin sock
