Jacques Anquetil the first cyclist to win the Tour de France five times

Anquetil took a forthright and controversial stand on the use of performance-enhancing drugs. He never hid that he took drugs and in a debate with a government minister on French television said only a fool would imagine it was possible to ride Bordeaux–Paris on just water.

He and other cyclists had to ride through “the cold, through heatwaves, in the rain and in the mountains”, and they had the right to treat themselves as they wished, he said in a television interview, before adding:

“Leave me in peace; everybody takes dope.”

He’s playing the game. He doesn’t really feel he did anything wrong.

I don’t particularly warm to LA but he really did not create the culture of drugs in cycling. Road cycling and drugs have always gone together. I think its quite naive if you thought many tour riders were squeaky clean then.

The use of drugs, and the advantages to be gained, reached new levels in the Lance Armstrong era. It was common knowledge within the teams that you had little chance without EPO, especially as EPO wasn’t tested for. If I’d been in that world I would also have taken the drugs, the majority it seems, did exactly that. I think a lot of people are being judgemental without realising they’d have done it too.

yeah you will need a chain guide, cheap superstar one does me. Having a decent rear mech helps too.

I run a 30t front ring with 36 rear. I find really steep technical climbs easier with it.if you’re fit you’ll be fine with 32. I’m getting old.

Not my fault but still a pain in the arse, I tried calling winstanelys but was just too late. Will call them in the morning.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I hadn’t made an order from germany, 10 euro shipping which I will have to pay twice now. Ahhh well…..

crap! Ive just ordered some XC tyres from germany, and I also had the chilli barons in the basket but decided to get these from the uk as they were marginally cheaper. But they aren’t really chilli!
If I want to order from germany now and send Winstanleys back i have to pay the shipping again. crap!

coconut water is considered a great sports drink by many. Its not cheap though, so I only use it on long rides. Whether that is a placebo or not who knows, but it works for me.

Ive tried the non-blackchilli Der Baron 2.5 on my dh bike.
They work very well in mud and pretty good all round.

I’d suggest you park at Ryslyn car park, do the Wall ( ignore the bike park when you come out of the ‘Graveyard’ section of the wall.. Then Drive up to Ton Mawr and park at the bike park, have a brew and cake , then session the small routes in the park for a while…. followed by more tea n cake

    I’ll do this, sounds perfick

I have approached Bike24 by email, but will call SurfSales tomorrow and see if they are helpful. Maybe they will still be full of enthusiasm at this point!

I had to turn it off once he was swinging by his arms, serious vertigo!

I haven’t used it that much really, especially when you consider they say 1 year service intervals for intensive use. I’ve looked after it, cleaned it carefully after every ride.
I’ve bought a dh bike and I’ve preferred using that lately.

I’ve emailed Bike24 to see what they say. If they aren’t helpful I’ll get it serviced. Any recommendations who to choose? Are Surf Sales any good?

Every January through to end of March I stop sugar, beer, bread and eat less carbs. In this time I eat as much meat, eggs, dairy and non starchy vegetables as I like. I lose all my belly fat doing that. I then enjoy the summer, drink like a maniac through December and I’m a bit fat again by January 1st.

“…..hence, this specification requires greater impact protection and provides performance criteria for chin bars on full-face helmets…..”

I imagine the Avatar wouldn’t pass the test then. In my automotive experience at least, it is not particularly expensive to get an item tested to a standard, just a few hundred quid sort of thing. If they were getting the Durgana tested then they easily could have got the Avatar tested at the same time. I suspect the Durgana is the newer design and they had to design with the test in mind.

Personally I would. This ensures the chin guard is of a certain standard. I bought a Bell Drop this week which is tested to astm1952. £75 from Wiggle right now.

    read
‘what if its all been a big fat lie’

Its not all about calories. A calorie is the heat energy given off when burnt. Coal is extremely high calorie, but it wouldn’t make you fat if you ate it. The human body doesn’t set fire to the food you eat.

Its true that excess carbs spiking blood sugar is the primary cause of obesity in the west. Not fat.

Artifical sweeteners are quite dangerous for some people. Lots of money to be made from them so its ok.

I have just bought a new full face. I bought a bell drop from wiggle for 75 quid. It passes astm1952 which is a dh safety standard. Those 2 helmets you mention havent been tested to this new standard. I believe The helmets have more safety standards than the bluegrass, so id make my decision on that if i were you.

Well Druidh, that isn’t what he said to me, but regardless, my point remains, both will exist. We need the 29er for mincers like you.

My main bike is a Rocket, a small frame and I really like it.
I test rode a ‘small’ prototype Solaris. I’m 5’6″ and it felt too big, like I was getting taken for a ride rather than riding it.
Conclusion of Cy seemed to be that 29ers probably aren’t suitable for short arses. So thats one reason that I can imagine both 29″ and 26″ existing side by side.

I’d also buy second hand, 1500-1800 gets you a brilliant dh bike only a year or 2 old

Many respected architects and engineers think we should have an independent investigation into the collapse of the 3 skyscrapers.
Yes, THREE skyscrapers not 2. It makes no sense to these architects and engineers at all. But what do they know? They are probably crazy.

tbh whiter74, I hope you are fine, it was just a vile post that you made. I reacted with poison so I’m no better than you. let’s both make a new year resolution not to be horrible to people under any circumstances. 🙂

I’m bored, alcohol is the way out. I’ve been downing wine. The key is to get slightly drunk then stop and sober up. Repeatthis cycle until the evening when you can stop the sober up phase and just go for broke.

I use minions front and rear. Yes they are a bit draggy, but I don’t do events so I accept it. I tried switching to a faster rolling rear (Maxxis Ardent) and when cornering hard the rear end could completely let go very suddenly. It was dangerous, so I went back to the minion rear.
Personally, if I needed lower rolling resistance, I’d also drop the minion from the front and go for similar XC tyres front and rear. That way you get really low rolling resistance and its easier to guage the grip you have. I think most people tend to judge grip from the feel of the front.
I didn’t like having a big difference between front and rear.
