ordered Zee from tweeks, £80 for both. It would have cost more like £180 for Saint. I think Zee will do for my needs. (You watch I’ll rip it off first ride out now.)

Thanks as always for your opinions.

the Zee stuff is as cheap on Tweeks cycles, and should be here a bit quicker hopefully

    Cheers guys

    I’ve broken 2 X9 10spd shifters and a X0 10spd shifter inside 12 months.
I’ve never broken a shimano shifter. So I’m staying with Shimano for gearing from now on.

I might just buy the zee shifter and mech. I can’t really justify the extra outlay for the saint.

Yes Sherwood. I’m surprised this place gets targeted for bike crime as 99.63% of the bikes are low value..

I normally bring my pub bike, but the rocket was in the boot of the car already and I couldn’t be arsed to swap them. I thought Id post on here to throw a bone to the haters. 🙂

I tend to use sintered for the rear (longer lasting) and organic or kevklar up front (better feel).

Thanks for the kind offer Tom, however I am on holiday with the wife and our 3 young baby/children, so I’ll only be popping out for hour long blasts when a window of opportunity arises! I’ll check out those areas though, thank you 🙂

CHEERS. What I might do when I get home, is search for Strava segments in those areas.
Then see if I can get KOM along the South West Coast Path 😉

Thanks Scruff, been to the website, the user manuals don’t give much useful info for servicing 😥

Personally I don’t find the chin guard obstructs my breath at all. Its that well vented, it just feels like wearing an open face helmet to me.

On very hot days I sometimes remove the helmet on familiar long climbs, the chin guard allows you to easily hang it off the bars.

I hear MET have stopped making the parachute now. Probably because someone got there head skewered off.
I’m going to buy another while there is still some stock about. My 2007 model has seen better days now.

I bought one of those Cratoni helmets cheap off Ebay. The chin guard is a simple open back plastic moulding. Its very flexible and I don’t think it offers any real impact protection, it would stop scratches. I don’t wear it, its more of a kids helmet to my mind. I’m glad you like it though! 😀

thanks for all the replies people 🙂

I do quite like to do slow motion in edits, but I guess you can still do that with white, its just a bit choppy compared to black.

I’m leaning towards a white I think. Its quite a bit cheaper.

You need the yellow rim tape, you got that yes? Then, leave inflated , overnight ideally, then remove the tube, leave one bead seated. Then take the tubeless valve core out, and inflate with a track pump. If it won’t seal, get neat washing up liquid and squirt it around the rim. I trend to slosh it around with a paint brush. It always inflates for me like that.

I remember him posting a photo here of himself on a bike once. He looked like an adolescent youth hanging around a shopping centre type of bloke.
So my assumption, I think he started out innocently/genuinely enough but then he needed pocket money so ripped a few people off.

If its flat where you live (and you are strong) then 36t may be ok.
I have a friend who was using 36t front no problems, he is stronger than me. However, we went riding recently, his fitness has dropped and he struggled with it. He also said that he didn’t ever use the smaller cogs on the rear.

Personally I use a 30t front ring with 11-36 rear. I started with 32t but I lost fitness and started to find it a bit of a drag on long climbs. I don’t find it too spinny on the dh.

I have a met parachute and I feel sure it saved my teeth in a face first fall from quite a height. The chin guard didn’t snap. My arm did though.

I ordered a casco viper recently online from velodrome shop (or something similar). Anyway, long story, but waste of time, they didn’t deliver got my money refunded. So if you find a decent supplier of a casco I’d be interested.

I also went from ex8 to rocket. I also ride dh. The rocket is much more fun than the ex8. I wish i had got a longer travel bike sooner. Its really good at descending and climbs well. Its heavy duty, not a xc race bike, a fun bike. My riding has improved a lot, so much more confidence now.

Another rocket owner here, had mine a year now. I went rp23, but ive since bought a bos fork, so with hindsight……… anyway, its a really good bike for having fun. I was running a 70mm stem but recently changedto 80mm for a longer ride and havent changed back as its more comfortable now. Im inbetween sizes, i got a small but im probably near the top end of small.
Anyway, must get out of bed and go ride it!:)

Odi long necks, flangless. Glue them on with rubber solution. Really good , comfy and thin.

I briefly put a 150mm fork in my 120mm travel bike and I found it was better for descending, it just made climbing harder. If you can afford to hire a bike it might make more sense.

You’d probably struggle. I went a couple of years ago on a 120mm travel FS and found parts of it too difficult. It was very muddy/steep and I slid down a lot of it on my face. Only did a 3 runs before retiring. I’m going again soon on a DH bike and if its wet (its nearly always wet), then I will still struggle.

I’m not just saying it for effect, I face planted in mine and it protected me. snot rockets aside, I think it’s a great xc helmet.

    theendisnigh

I’ve got one from 2007 and I’ve face planted in it. It saved my face. People who don’t wear a helmet get slated but getting a met parachute is a step too far? I don’t understand. They cause no additional hassle to a standard helmet apart from blowing snot rockets is harder.

The carpet is extremely photogenic. its much more minging in real life. I’m planning to replace it so not so worried. Also I don’t lube my chain massively so it is usually dry.

I paid £1550 with rp23 and headset. When the el guapo with ccdb came out at £800 a couple of months later….well, I did wince a little. Anyway, its done now and I love the bike for descending. It is a steady climber too, but obviously not its forte. It loves hopping off natural features. Climachx.

Helitape the seat stays and top tube, but anywhere that gets splattered in mud gets it eventually. Its hard to wash the mud off without dulling the laquer. Bit of a rub down with beeswax furniture polish makes it look ok again though.
You can see where I put a strip of helitape along the top tube but stopped 6″ short of the seat tube. Notice the sudden loss of gloss! Muddy shorts rubbing on seat tube. Ankles across seat stays. They are the worst offenders.

Get there before 10am, ideally 9.30 as it gets very busy. If you get there early enough its a lot of fun. Get there too late and you might find you don’t get a clean run on the descents because of the mixed ability traffic. Thats my experience at least.
