I’m no stranger to tubeless, been running tubeless for several years. I’ve never burped a tyre on a stans rim and I run very low pressures because I like the grip that gives, for me thats the whole point.
Aaaaaanyway, just been out for a ride again, the front burped a few times but nothing too catastrophic, however the rear went flat in no time. After several flats, I ended up having to pump the rear tyre up hard. It was ok then, but might as well have run a tube.

I used a compressor to inflate the tyres, held them at 70psi so thought that would have seated them but maybe not. I’ll have to try again and make sure I fully tyre soap the beads, maybe they aren’t seating right. I really hope thats the case because the Stans set up seems so much better right now and its half the price.

Have any of you successfully used these wheels tubeless with low pressures?

They’re there to stabilise the chin guard against your face I’d guess; stop it from clattering into your jaw and taking out your teeth in the event of a crash.

yeah maybe, but i think if it fails in such dramatic fashion you’d be in trouble anyway regardless of the pad. I reckon it still provides protection without them in place. Certainly from a faceplant impact I think it makes little difference if any. In the event of a side impact and the chin guard caving in you would have less protection. Personally, I can’t be arsed taking the helmet off to put them back in for descents and its too hot with them in this weather. The helmet is fairly resistant to twisting on the head even without the pads.

Might be wrong but I didn’t think it could? The old model could be removed but I thought they had done away with that feature now. I can’t imagine I’d bother removing it anyway..

the reviews on the endura mt500 spray are worrying on crc. Seems they fall apart in no time. Anyone find durability an issue?

Can the all pads be removed for cleaning?

Yes you can remove all the pads. There are 2 sizes of cheek pads provided, I find these actually contact the cheeks, so I’ve left them off, they don’t seem necessary and would make it hot to wear. I might use them in the winter but probably not tbh.

I have found the helmet extremely light and airy, it is not noticeabley hotter to wear than a normal xc helmet and is much cooler to wear than my Urge Enduromatic. The chin piece looks like it will provide fair protection from a face plant type crash. It won’t be very strong from a side impact but still better than nothing. I really like it, my only gripe is the D-ring strap which is difficult to operate with gloves. I ride a motorbike so I’m used to D-ring but its a 2 handed fiddle. I like to take my helmet off for climbs but I don’t now as it would mean stopping. I guess the D-ring may have been necessary for certain regs.
A slight gripe is drinking, its trickier to get a camelbak mouthpiece in your mouth but it is possible. I haven’t ridden with a bottle yet but I imagine that might be trickier.
Overall I’m really happy with it.

Interesting, how long will nail varnish last do you think? Has it been a while since youve done it?

It might be a case of buying several. I think it might be like a ford polar white or something. Maybe I’ll pop into halfords and see if that helps.

I face planted in my original parachute and my face escaped injury. The impact was severe enough to dislocate the chin piece from the main helmet. I’m sure I would have sustained quite serious injury without it, so I’m very much happier with a full face helmet, even a light weight version such as this. I agree it looks over the top at trail centres, but you don’t know when you’ll need it.

BTW is the design of the bell and the met going to stop you mashing your face on the chinguard in a face brake crash?

Well thats kind of the point.

    theendisnigh

I never removed the chinguard on my original parachute, there was no need as it didn’t really restrict airflow. The bell chin guard doesn’t look as well vented and maybe thats why they came up with the detach mechanism.

looking at the internals of the DPA, it looks like the air adjust gubbins takes up the volume of a token anyway, so maybe it won’t help. Its worth a try though, they seem very divey to me. I am comparing to the Bos Deville I had previously which was, with hindsight, fantastic and simple to set up.

Cheers Loco, I’ve just ordered a set from you, £3 cheaper than JE James. I’ll see if I can figure out a way to get one attached.

JE James have just informed me that the tokens I ordered aren’t really in stock after all…….. and I can’t see anyone else selling them. So that might be the end of that. I wish I had bought the solo air pike.

I find the fork dives really badly off drops if you land anywhere near front heavy. To compensate I’ve added more air but then that has drawbacks.

Ethan modifies a standard token to fit. Quite what he does to it I’m not certain. Do you think the token couldn’t thread into the top cap on a dual air?

    theendisnigh

He does sound like he knows his stuff tbh

From his email to me it sounds like they simply drill a hole in a token so it clears the dual air shaft. I’ve ordered some tokens and will give it a go. I’ll report back my findings.

    I found the link

I found it on a thread on an american forum. I don’t have the link, some guy Ethan at Maverick Suspension. Could be a thirteen year old operating from his bedroom. if you google you’ll probably find it. This guy reckons he runs 2 tokens on his dual air.
I got the impression that he drills a hole in the tokens to clear the dual air gubbins. But other threads I’ve read seems to suggest that you couldn’t thread the token into a dual air.

I haven’t taken a look in the fork yet myself. Thought I’d ask here first.

How much a section of a given material deflects under a given load (stiffness) is not related to its natural frequency, ie the vibrations that make it sing like a tuning fork. Carbon fibre vibrates very differently to aluminium. Even so, I couldn’t notice the difference.

I recently fitted carbon t-mo enduro bars, replacing ally and was quite excited. How silly I felt when I realised the was no noticeable difference whatsoever. They look cool though.

I’ve found them for sale at JE James for £13, so unless I get a donation I’ll buy them. Its a bit irritating that they are missing, I had the seal kit.

Woe is me, I didn’t get any tokens with mine. Any kind souls out there want to donate a spare token to my bottomless benevolent fund? I reckon 1 would do me, I’m only 140ish lbs

Ahhh in that case maybe ive ordered the wrong oil. Curses!

Dont really know whether to try the 7.5 or to order some 5wt

    theendisnigh

I ordered Silkolene Pro RSF 7.5wt, which according to your table has a VT of 3.08 compared to 2.82 for the 5wt. I guess that isn’t a huge difference percentage wise so hopefully it will be similar performance.

    theendisnigh

Glad you said that mindmap as I’ve just ordered the 7.5wt oil.
probably going to use 10wt oil spring side as I already have some of that.

It seems it was merely some torque relaxation on the bolts at the seat stay end of the shock. Nipped up the bolts and it seems solid again. Its in my nature to fear the worst

cheers guys, yeah its an early one but it hadn’t had a problem previously. Hopefully its just the shock bushing. I’ll keep you posted.
